PS4/PS4 Pro info?

Dear FDev,

please do let us know something about the expected performance on the game on PS4, and possibly also what to expect on PS4 Pro (in terms of FPS, graphical options perhaps?).

Shortly before the Xbox One launch a few articles like this (http://gamingbolt.com/elite-dangero...nd-30fps-in-massively-multiplayer-open-galaxy) were published, with Gary Richards giving out some info about what to expect in terms of performance.

Are we PS4 players not worthy of the same privilege? [sad]

It would make us very happy indeed.

Thank you.

UPDATE: A Few Questions

Gameplay
G1 - On the 27th of June, will the PS4 game servers be up and running from 00:00 GMT? Will there be a day-one patch? Will the 2.3.10 update be part of the Digital Download? Or separate? In short: when will we actually be able to start playing?
G2 - Is there a CG planned for PS4 launch week, and will it be easily accessible to new CMDRs in their starting Sidewinders?
G3 - Will private groups be availlable from launch?
G4 - Will net worth (total assets+Credits) transfer from either Xbox or PC to PS4 be permitted? And if not, is there going to be a "grace period" after which you will allow it?
G5 - Will PS4 players receive some exclusive/free decals?
G6 - Will ships on PS4 have an ID Number of 5 or 6 digits?
G7- Will PS4 players be able to get -- now or in the future -- the Cobra Mk4?
G7 - Will Frontier be limiting Commanders in the same instance? If so, what is the maximum number of players that could inhabit the same instance?
G8 - Is there any chance that existing PC Fuel Rats that have the Fuel Rat decal and are planning to also play on PS4 could carry it with them? Or otherwise gain it?
G9 - Will it be possible for the context UI menu to include also R2 and L2 (and not just R1 and L1)?

Tech
T1 - What learning points have Frontier gained from their previous deployments on the Xbox consoles? Where there notable differences between the architecture of the two consoles? Is there anything that we can do to help during the early days after the servers will go live?
T2 - What is the expected target framerate for PS4 and for PS4 Pro, respectively? Will these be locked or variable (for ex., 60 in space but 30 on planets)?
T3 - Can we expect a similar level of graphical detail on base PS4 than it is available on Xbox One?
T4 - Will PS4 Pro have options to "favour performance" (i.e. FPS) or "favour resolution"?
T5 - Will there be an option to activate or deactivate Vertical Sync in order to either increase FPS or minimise screen tearing?
T5 - Will PS4 Pro offer an improvement in quality when on planet surfaces? What can we expect in terms of Terrain Quality, as compared to PC settings (i.e. low, medium, high, ultra).
T6 - Will there be an adjustable FOV slider (for either version)?
T7 - Will PS4 Pro support 4K? And if so, native 4K or near-4K with checkerboard rendering? And if outputting to a 1080p display, will there be supersampling/upscaled 1080p? Are there going to be options to enable or disable it?
T8 - Will either or both PS4 and PS4 Pro support HDR?
T9 - Feel free to add any other info regarding Pro enhancements.
T10 - Will the game support Surround Sound 7.1 and/or 3D sound? (for use with the Sony Platinum Headset, for ex.)
T11 - PSVR: VR is a great addition to the PC community and the PSVR is the obvious equivalent for the Playstation community. It is unfortunate that PSVR will not be available at launch. What are the current plans for PSVR? Will Frontier be looking at providing PSVR functionality as a point release in the future when it is ready or is it likely to be rolled into a main update? Does it depend on technical limitations of the console?

HOTAS
H1 - Do we get full button remapping on the T-Flight 4? (including deadzone customisation, inverted and hold toggles etc)
H2 - What about other Thrustmaster products support? e.g. Warthog
H3 - What about other manufacturers? e.g. Saitek / Logitech
H4 - Will the Thurstmaster HOTAS and the DS4 be usable at the same time? (like it is the case for other games?). I.e. will a player be able to manoeuvre the ship with the HOTAS but navigate the Galaxy Map with the DS4? Will the Line Audio out on the DS4 work even while playing the game with the HOTAS?
H5 - Can we save controller bindings (as separate files) to USB and/or to PSN-cloud? Do/can we get multiple named config saves for controller bindings?

PSN Ecosystem Integration
P1 - Will 2 PSN accounts be able to share the same Frontier account? (i.e. someone having two CMDRs on the same console)? Or will we have the chance, like Xbox players currently have, to have 2 CMDRs on a single Frontier account?
P2 - Why are EU players not receiving the ED avatars as a preorder bonus (like US players do)? We've been told it is some kind of legal reason?
P3 - Will PS4 users have access to the entire Frontier Store of ship kits, paint jobs, bobbleheads etc. or is there an additional level of Sony accreditation for each store item that could lead to
us potentially ending up with a sub-set of the full store?
P4 - Will you implement PSN "players met"?
P5 - Is voice chat available in-game, or is it PS4 party chat only? And in either case, will we be able to toggle between broadcasting to local space and talking to wing members in private?
P6 - Will you allow PSN level player blocking to block users in Elite (including them resetting their CMDR account in-game, and PSN subaccounts, ie inheritance from PSN master account)
P7 - Will multicrew joining from PSN Party groups and "games in progress" be possible?
P8 - Will you allow 100% trophy completion in solo?
P9 - WIll there be any use for second screen? For ex. will the player chat movable to the 2nd Screen (PS Vita or PS App).

Extra
X1 - A clarification about keyboards: will keyboards be supported? If so to what extent? Will it only be usable for the chat window or can we add key bindings? (For example, buttons for galaxy map or cargo scoop or super cruise or whatever support buttons the commander feels they require)
X2 - Will head tracking through Playstation Camera and/or PSVR work?
X3 - When playing Elite with the PSVR in Cinematic Mode, will moving your head around allow headlook?
X4 - Are there plans, now or in some near future, to allow third-party apps to track data of console users?
X5 - Roughly, how many FDev full time staff members (or aggregated equivalent if shared resources) are (or have been) dedicated to the PS4 conversion? And how many of those will still be dedicated to PS4-related matters in a few months post launch?

Something that would make us very happy would be a special PS4-only Q&A with Ed and a Dev (or perhaps Lloyd?). UPDATE: Hey look at that we're getting just that. You are so awesome.

Thank you.

P.S. - I would like to thank every CMDR-to-be who suggested a question -- on this thread, on others, or on other platforms like Discord or Reddit. There is already a great community around this game, and I'm happy to be part of it. Only a few more days to go...

Seconded, would be nice to see some actual gameplay from Open play (or even Solo) rather than the 2 videos I have seen on training videos. How is the planetary surface landing on the PS4 as this seems to a moan I hear from Xbox that planetary quality is not the best?

Is the game using target rates for FPS on the console? Is it unlocked with a target, or restricted to a set frame rate?

From the FAQ:

Will Elite Dangerous for PS4™ work on PS4™Pro?
Yes, we plan on supporting the PS4™Pro with Elite Dangerous

Any technical details yet?

Will full 4K be supported for Elite Dangerous on the PS4™Pro?
Elite Dangerous will feature enhanced performance on PS4™Pro. We’ll have more to information about this closer to release.

Any news on this? Will you be supporting a 4k mode? Will there be supersampling to 1080p with the PS4 Pro? So basically will it be selectable, 4k mode or performance 1080p mode with supersampling?

Seph, how do we encourage Digital Foundry to do a graphics analysis? :) (once it is released)

Thanks.

They said they'll have more info on Pro support closer to release - its only been a few days since the announcement, so i think we'll have to wait a while yet

stormyuk - what videos are those? Do they have PS4 footage? Cheers

The FAQ has quoted those statements for months mate. Some of us have wanted info for a while. I am just using this as an excuse to ask again. :D

I don't expect anything from FDev until E3. I bet they are saving the latest gameplay footage for that event.

Here's an interesting tidbit - the Elite: Dangerous Legendary page on Amazon US now has the "Customers who bought this item also bought:" section. The list includes various games, and surprise surprise, the PS4 Pro. This doesn't mean anything, but I found it interesting nonetheless.

I may be tempted too if e3 brings a nice price drop for the current Pro (with a new Pro S, or ps5, being announced).

With scorpio being shown off fully at e3, i think a ps pro s or ps5 (or both!) is highly likely to be announced, or even just teased.

That is exactly the same boat I'm in.
I reckon they'll include more Elite details at E3 including gameplay footage and the differences between PS4 and Ps4Pro.

If Sony announced a £50 drop in the Ps4Pro price to sub £300 I would snap one up in time for the Elite launch.

Shop around.
End of April I got my PS4 Pro at a well known online store for £299 with Horizon Zero Dawn thrown in free.
Bought hoping for a May release :/

On the Ps4 no but there are live streams on the internet I think PlayStation Access in the UK did last year as well as a couple US game media sites.

I'm sure that our Marketing and Community Teams will be making announcements and releasing further information regarding the PlayStation version of Elite Dangerous during the run up to launch.

I'm up for being spammed by vids! :) preferably showing some planetary aspects and some comparisons showing the difference between pro and standard ;)

Maybe your Marketing team should take a long hard look at their current strategy because in two years I've never seen your reputation lower amongst the playerbase.

"The Electronic Entertainment Expo, commonly referred to as E3, is an annual trade fair for the video game industry presented by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA). It is used by many video game publishers and accessory manufacturers to introduce and advertise upcoming games and game-related merchandise."

It is logical for Frontier to wait for this event to "make announcements and release further information regarding the PlayStation version of Elite." Logical based on industry norms, at least..
