News Elite Dangerous - 2.4 and beyond

Thank you Zac and team. The major updates for core gameplay improvement after 2.4 sound really nice. It's the right move to make before going forward.

But, I hope you're ready for essays and threads complaining about you guys not working on anything new. They will come. Be sure of it.

So with the Horizon season of expansions coming to a close, what is beyond 2.4 I hear you ask? Well, it certainly isn’t the end of this amazing journey… we’re only just getting started!

Very pleased to read this kind dedicated statement, Zac. I feared the lack of such optimistic dev posts about the future of ED beyond "Horizons" would mean that you wanted to prepare people that there wasn't coming much more and that the stuff we have right now would be more or less it, with no major updates coming anymore in the future of ED.

Although I haven't played much lately, I am kind of relieved to hear that FD is still dedicated to improve ED in the future, even though the game isn't exactly "new" anymore!

I really do hope open betas are here to stay; the idea of paying you to test for you always struck me as very odd, esp. when new expansion rolled out and previous Kickstarter commitment was over. I hope this is a sign of how it'll be handled in the future!

I think they charge for it because beta access was a tier reward in the KS (a terrible idea I know). It'd be way better for their image to have closed betas and hand out access to random CMDRs that apply, instead of just charging for it.

Agreed, i would happily invest time in Beta testing and give the feedback that i have. But im not paying for it.
Putting a testing phase behind a paywall, limiting your beta feedback is a silly idea.
I wonder if the last update would have been less buggy if everyone could have taken part, rather than those who just wanted to play with the new features early, get bored and move on.

Yep, should've underlined that in my post -- I feel that if more people can participate, esp. in multiplayer related beta updates, the better results for everyone, really.

I'm just chiming in to say I'm very happy for this little slice of information. I was starting to wonder exactly what the future holds for E:D. Although this does not say exactly what is in store, it gives us a nice little assurance that things are indeed planned and a little timeline as to when to expect more detailed information. Thank you.

Greetings Commanders,

It’s a very exciting time to be part of the Elite Dangerous galaxy. On June 27 we will welcome even more Commanders to the galaxy with the PlayStation 4 launch. These new players will join the ranks of our already incredibly active, passionate and dedicated community.

Since the launch of Elite Dangerous: The Commanders a number of weeks ago, we’ve received messages from members of the community eagerly awaiting details about the 2.4 update and the future of the game. I’m pleased to be able to share with you a little more detail on what’s to come in the short term and slightly longer term with Elite Dangerous.

2.3.10

The first thing I’d like to share with you

Weird....

Ed, Zac, the team, for this:

We’re happy to be able to confirm that the next major updates following 2.4 will focus on core gameplay, existing features, quality of life and other improvements! We’re delighted to be investing a considerable amount of development and effort into making the core gameplay experience even better for our fantastic community or players.

Thank you. Thank you, thank you, for a thousand times thank you! This is EXACTLY what I wanted to read coming from you. You gave me hope, and this is very important. Thank you for that.

Good to finally hear something about the future of the game. Focus on core gameplay and QOL improvements is great news and a step in the right direction.

Can't wait for E3 now! I hope you guys will be making an appearance at Lavecon and save some juicy news for that too!
