Just signed up, though will be missing the start, unfortunately (won't be online much this weekend). I've signed up with DBX, though haven't actually bought it yet so this may change... I'm likely to catch up with everyone at one of the waypoints either during the week or next weekend.
I got sidetracked by real life during Distant Worlds, and had to abandon it somewhere in the core. Hopefully I'll be able to complete this one.

Hi guys, dumb question, but what do I need to install to record my upcoming journey?
I'm vaguely aware of something that reads the game journal to record all your jumps but I'm not clear which one of the many tools it is. I thought it was EDSM but that just appears to be a website.
I was hoping for something that would show my route when we get back?

I'll give a short answer and others can fill in the details, since I'm a noob at this too.
A program like EDDdiscovery can track your flight as you play. It can also sync with EDSM. So install and configure EDDdiscovery, and also get an account in EDSM. At EDSM also get an API Key from your profile and copy this key into your commander profile in EDDdiscovery. This will allow it to copy your travels to EDSM.
Also you will want to join the expedition within EDSM, which is not otherwise necessary but that is where you would track your progress.
I think also in EDSM in your profile, you need to make your log entries public, so it is visible to the expedition.
Other apps like Captain's Log might work as well, I just use EDD.

Personally I use EDMC, because of my trading background, and super simple GUI and basic use. (not to mention it's such a lightweight app I have it in my startup folder so it's always running).
EDD is a very intense piece of programming for very serious explorers. It is immensely capable of many things.
And you get both to sync to EDSM.

I'm sitting at WP0 in my Cobra MKIV with CMDR Luc Hunter (Hauler) and CMDR Smileyface (Cobra MKIII).

I've been looking at some of the build recomendations and such like an dam pleased my build is not too far off, maybe a few slight tweaks to save weight trimming excess performance (power plant, shield and thrusters)but one question I have is ...
why heatsinks?
the swe2 builds doc even lists them higher priority (want) than Field Maintenance unit (Nice to have)
actually a second question, as i've never had one before or done a serious expedition, with the FMU do i want the biggest (most ammo) i can find/fit/afford?
