Cracked Industrial Firmware now falling like rain

They need to add Arsenic to those mission rewards! I'm not usually one to obtain most of this stuff via missions, but after spending two hours on three 2.5 to 2.6% arsenic planets and having 9 units to show for my efforts, I think a mission alternative would be most welcome!

At least if you have any FSDs needing a Grade 5 upgrade. ;)

I suggest you look into a certain crashed Anaconda in the Orrere system for that.

There used to be missions for just about everything. But they were removed to force us to use "gameplay" we don't like.

At least there is an alternative way to get arsenic. For MEF and technetium there is no choice but to use the SUV. I can't use it, it makes me physically sick. So I'd like an alternative. I don't care if it's hard, just not using the SUV.

I'll collect all MEF and Technetium you want with your SRV. Just give me access to your game account.

Had a similar problem in rough terrain before. In settings there can you "lock" the wiew so you do not get sick. (not at home sa and cant remember the name of the setting☹ )

Hi there,

No, this is purely an internal change to the MicroResourceRewardGenerator within the mission system.

The settlement datapoint rewards are handled by a different system.

Thanks,
Dom

Please adjust the settlement datapoint accordingly, I prefer to scan than mission board shuffle and scanning seems to have took a major hit regarding CIF and MEF

After untold weeks of drought, CIF is flooding my data capacity:

Funny...

Please do the same thing with Modified Embedded Firmware.

Thanks

Edit to correct "formware" to "firmware"...Friday...booze...pass out soon

I have to ask though where did you look before a lot of the times, these things can be behind states or certain types of missions, and if people do not look or try different missions or states then they might think they don't exist.

Praise Dom. Lord of Crack

Upon closer reading inspection of Dom's posts, I renounce my praise. Cracked Industrial Firmware is only meant for highly ranked traders. Those who need dirty drives and long range weapons the most. Many missions boards have confirmed this.

Glad I reached Elite in trade last year!

Please FD, flick the shower switch marked "Chemical Manipulators", and "arsenic" while you are about it :)

Go to Dav's Hope, there are Chem Mani's there. It's a pain because you have to find it on the surface via coordinates. Look on the forum for instructions for Dav's. I got a whole bunch, and guess what, once I had a bunch, I started finding them in "normal" places again. I've got 40+. It's the adage, you find what you don't need or used to need.

Now for the CIF hunt, which I saw two missions today with that item as a reward.

For arsenic you have to surface mine, persistently, on worlds that have 1.5%+ probability of the substance. What I do is I refuse to pick anything up that isn't what I'm looking for, in this case arsenic, and when I do find arsenic and collect it, the game "seems" to "give" you more finds of arsenic. Strictly subjective, but it works for me.

Firstly I also would like to thank Dom for his engagement with the forum users. We tend to be very dedicated players and it really does mean a great deal. Cheers!

About arsenic or any other 'mineable' mat, just use the scientific barnacle threads to identify planets that have a barnacle and the material you want. This arsenic planet:

https://eddb.io/body/9230

... has a Barnie at -34.46, -44.42.

Note that you'll need to look into said scientific threads in more detail to check when the Barnacle is 'ripe' (i.e. not destroyed spikes) but this is just an example. There may be better/closer ones.

However, once you've done your Barnie homework, you'll never need to shoot rocks again. Just spikes.

From my experience this is true. I've spent several hours without CIF and MEF the traditional Data Scan Way, using http://ed.b101010.ru/aul/, whereas before a couple of hours would usually do it. Time to get a T9 and start hauling it seems!

Arsenic often drops with Cadmium and Ruthenium, two very rare materials, at least it does where I farm it and it isn't difficult to find, just takes time checking out Mesosiderite outcrops and driving all over a planetary surface, nice and grind-y like. Eddb.io can help you find high percentage Arsenic planets close to you. It does not just fall out of the sky and land at our feet but Arsenic is available.
As for Chemical Manipulators, go to any populated system in Famine state, fly >500 LS out from the primary (I go about 1500 LS), slow to 50-75% throttle and drop in on Encoded Emission USS, High Grade USS and Combat Aftermath USS. I picked up 50 tons in about 3 or 4 hours at a system picked at random (it was nearby) from the galaxy map. These systems often also drop Pharmaceutical Isolators at the same types of USS, doubling my fun. o7

I have a list, a link to which was posted in the FDev forums (but later disappeared), of M3M settlements that can be easily scanned/farmed for CIF every couple of weeks netting about 60 CIF and 50 MEF per lap. It takes a few hours to run a single lap, the settlements are all identical in layout with only four (4) data-points to scan per settlement and the route-time-limit is about 4 minutes long to scan those 4 data-points. It is Data-Point Scanning For Dummies. Some settlements drop zero (0) CIF, some drop 3 and some drop 6.

When I get home tonight I will post a small spreadsheet of the systems and settlement names. The settlements are all easy to find, reasonably close together, just select them in the galaxy and system maps, respectively, I do not remember if I had to scan any NAV beacons.

It's a bit grind-y, scanning the exact same base layout does get monotonous after the 20th one but the list is only about 30 or so settlements long and it is just too easy. Will try and get the list posted tonight. o7

EDIT: As promised, the settlement list:
Printed out, it makes a nice little score-card

Yes on ignoring stuff you do not need however, some of the mats that drop along with Arsenic are very rare and also collectible such as Cadmium and Ruthenium so, food for thought . . .

I'd like to add my thanks to Dom for fixing these issues, and for posting here, it's much appreciated.
