Challenge to land on the world of death

The key to landing on the planet is to wait for its orbit to take it out of the exclusion zone, just before its orbit path crosses the jets. And it does cross into the jets. Didn't need any heat sinks because I wasn't close enough to the WD's exclusion zone to start overheating, but maneuvering around on the planet requires a bit of finesse because using lateral thrusters and boost can cause temperature spikes.

I'm landed on the planet and the jets are damaging my ship.

This is interesting.

Any size MRP might be better than none. As long as I don't have to carry that dead weight all the way from the bubble.
I'm just not sure an MRP will help against heat damage. I've never actually used one. Normally the heat sinks also act as heat damage sinks.
Unfortunately, they don't protect against neither supercruise drop-out (star "ramming") nor heat damage. At least they didn't the last time I checked, which was in the 2.2 beta I believe. MRPs lessen module damage from incoming weapons fire, but I believe that's all.

It's worth mentioning that the SRV seems to take no damage whatsoever from the jets. I started taking damage to my ship the second that I boarded it, but before that point everything was fine.

Also of note, if ever you wanted to see a white dwarf from ridiculously close up, this is your opportunity. Land on the planet, dismiss your ship, make sure you have a large quantity of synthesis mats for fuel and wait for it to move around the star. From what it looks like you'll get some insane closeups if you're in the right position. :)

I think this one beats Death Spiral for sheer awesomeness. Well done, Lief! And well done EtherealCereal for boldly landing there :).

I do enjoy challenging landings like [FONT=&]HD 49368 and Hades Edge

I decided to bring my Anaconda since she runs cool, goes faster and can carry an MRP and a lot more heat sinks than the DBE.
I did leave the bubble with an expensive fuel scoop so I need to swap that out when I get to Colonia so I can minimize the rebuy cost.

It was found by Cmdr LøLWUT on 11 dec 2015,and when I put it in my horizon's wonders thread, I christened it LøLWUT HELL :D
I landed there, barely, but didn't get out alive as I had run out of heat sinks :(

'You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Ziggy Stardust again.'

Dammit all. Anyway, good work for getting here as well. Also, Orca! Now if we can just get someone in a Beluga to try it, we'll have had all three. :D
