Hardware & Technical New joystick from Thrustmaster

Just my 2 cents :)

All things brake...owning a TH Cougar, they made it with pots instead of hall sensors (hall sensors were too expensive) etc etc.

I think this product will aim at the mass not the hardcore flightsimmer....Thought line like the flight assist ...I remenber some in house saying that assist was too easy...

I wish they would have asked to community. Hat switches is key, as we have alot of menu joggeling.

Shout to the Guys doing videos....you are using a xbox/ps controller to drive a spaceship ..."#¤!#"!"%¤# arghh hurts me every time ..(I know you not all do it) but Elite is closer to a flight sim than fraggin Fifa game...

If I see keyboard play or wheel ..I'll sue you for loss of mental health ;)

Oh by the way here is the kicker ...so old I still use arrow keys in fps games ..so not perfect and didn't take all the new fancy stuff ...The day i get in a car or air plane and it has a xbox controller ..I'm not driving ;)

Warthog owner and happy, it is worn but for Elite it is ok...and Saitek pedals (Pedals of some sort is a really nice move, twist stick is not good enough...

And if you get pedals, they need to have toe brakes ..don't cheap out on this (my setup is left for landing gear and right for countermeasure)

Until it breaks that is, Good luck!

Data point of one, but I've had an X55 for 2 and a half years now and haven't had an issue with it.

That being said, I have a VKB Gunfighter base waiting for the MCG to release, and I'll be keeping an eye out for their throttle.

What I'm hoping for is a console based controller, personally. I'm not even playing on console and don't own a current gen console, but that would really open up a lot more market share, I suspect, for folks who'd like to play but want a more HOTAS-like control mechanism.

I had the X55 for about the same amount of time until a couple weeks ago when a couple buttons and a hat on the throttle suddenly stopped functioning. I've put around 800 hours on it total. Despite being out of warranty, they're sending me an X56 as a replacement. People whinge about Saitek quality, and justifiably so to a degree, but at least they seem to be handling proper replacements. ANyone who hasn't had such luck, I suspect strongly, has been rather rude with support. Support has been perfectly responsive, for me. The delays are due only to a death in the family making my replies less than swift.

I know there are a few issues with the X56 as well, according to many, but the fact is people expect a hell of a lot more from it than they should. This is due to the price but since there's virtually nothing else quite like it, they get away with it. I'm planning on upgrading to something like the Warthog eventually but I'm really planning on holding out until something more akin to the X56's dual analog sticks is available. I can live without yaw, but it'd be nice to have it for folks who have no room for pedals. I'd love a good pedal setup but my original Obutto won't fit most of them. I have my eyes on one, but plan to grab an eye tracking setup first. Money's tight for me but I don't mind saving up for things that will last me a while.

Have TM not heard of hats?

They've always seemed to be philosophically opposed to them. I've always thought it might be due to them being a more complicated arrangement than a single button, which adds a point of failure. It's the lack, however, that made me pick up a Saitek instead despite the risk of failure. WHile a few folks are aggressively vocal about their lower quality, it's obvious that the vast majority of them seem to be OK. Poor QA ought to be a non-issue now, at least, since Logitech doesn't play those games. I'm really hoping for a Logitech in-house design to enter the controller space. I know several engineers who used to work at Microsoft on the Sidewinders who are there now and, from their reports, QA is taken seriously.

We really do need something to close the gap between the $100 - $150 range controllers and the $500+ options. It's a market segment just begging for someone to break into with a quality design.

Wonder if Gutamaya, Faulcon DeLacy, Core Dyamics and the rest will be retrofitting the HOTAS systems in our ships to match the new hardware? :D

I think what happened is TM intended to bring an entire mid-range HOTAS to market, but found that they would be unable to do so on schedule. So they decided to re-release their stick that would have been at or near their target price point (the T-16000M), and put their development focus on getting the TWCS and TFRP parts out.

Because the T-16000M is a great stick by itself, but it's really only a good stick in a HOTAS setup. Because there are twelve buttons and an axis you can't use effectively one-handed.

Don't get me wrong, I'm really glad I bought my Flight Pack. But what they're going to announce now may be the stick that was meant for the HOTAS.

I knew it wasn't going to be a high end stick! Definitely some kind of HOTAS-X re-boot. With any luck they will have updated the joystick to the same sensors as they use on the T1600m. Most likely just a HOATS-X for the XBone...
