Alright you know what it's THEORY TIME with Substitute Teacher EAGLE 5.
So today we got the news that our flowery friends aren't really friends and they are Thargoids. It is safe to assume that this a 100% correct statement since the man himself has confirmed it in his latest video. NOW... I interrupt myself to first and foremost state, that what I'm about to say is based on one cornerstone assumption and that should it turn out to be incorrect the theory collapses into baseless speculation.
The assumption is this: Humanity did encounter the Thargoids in the past, went to war with them (Elite 1), used the INRA Mycoid virus to infect and disable their biological processes which were tied to hyperdrive technology, lost touch with them (Elite 2), interacted with them again in (FFE) before losing track of them completely.
I am not going to go over the war, we know it happened. We also know of the INRA Mycoid virus and that the Alliance stepped out to reach out to the Thargoids and deliver an antidote which brought about peace with the aliens... or so we thought. I say that because following the peaceful establishment of relations and the beginning of scientific exchange, contact was once again lost seemingly overnight only to be replaced with vague history re-writing and coverups of the whole incident... until the events of ED started happening.
Now here is a critical question that I think begs to be asked and needs to be answered: Who did the Alliance give the Mycoid cure to? Was it "The Thargoids"? or was it perhaps "Some Thargoids?".
It has been said before that the original Thargoids we went to war with, were more of a... scouting party and that we had just scratched the surface. It is also quite possible that, in the natural disarray that followed after the infection, some elements within Thargoid ranks began to question the direction of events (perhaps feeling abandoned by their kind) and that that may have even rebelled or splintered off pushing for a more "peaceful" existence compared to the warrior like status quo. It was this group then that reached out to the Alliance and received treatment... and by default independence from the others who would rather fight for their way of life. Outnumbered and outgunned the splinter group took off with their restored hyperdrives before the rest of Thargoid society showed up and probably blitzed them for defying the natural order of things.
Since then we have witnessed the coming of UAs, UPs, Barnacles and now these odd ships that seem to be capable of shutting us down at their leisure, more or less harmlessly in the case of the UP and the Ship... or with lasting caustic effect as with the UA. The abnormality here is the Barnacles which don't seem to cause damage per-se, rather they reverse the problems caused by the UAs through Meta Alloy production..... they are also the elements that seem to catch the Unknown Ships' attention (I speculate) probably for this healing ability.
Putting all this together I think Lab 69 is probably going to get very busy and will probably need some major cash infusion to counter this. My theory is this: The Ships/Flowers/Unknown Entities (if we are going to reference the video) are indeed Thargoids closer to our original enemies from Elite 1 but with about 200 years of evolution/upgrades on their side particularly to overcome on their own the ill effects of the Mycoid virus. The ironic vengeful twist is that they seem to want to do unto us what has been done to them... namely defeat through technological breakdown. Have you noticed in the teaser how the Elite Dangerous RA started corroding? that's very symbolic as the RA of the Elite Federation of Pilots could very well symbolize Humanity's society in space. They are eagerly awaiting reinforcements before "The Return" and they are NOT HAPPY with us. If this theory holds true, then this is indeed very bad news... all the history, all the coverups, and secret military contingency plans of new bubbles, fake uniting wars between the Feds and Imps (INRA anyone?) will be proven valid and we will have to make a choice as to what sort of scientists we are going to be at that point.... make no mistake there will be some hard decision that will push the boundaries of ethics.
Thoughts?
