Alien archeology and other mysteries: Thread 10 - The Canonn

Does anyone know what the wake signal of a flower ship displays?

Just had a high wake from the system from the live stream event, shortly after the beacon retransmission and on scanning it showed no CMDR name just the destination 56 LY away

Thargoid wakes have a unique appearance on the HUD scanner I believe. Like a paint splat, guessing you would have noticed that.

I'm not entire sure this has been brought up yet but did you notice at 0:52 how the (what I assume to be) Federation video feed refers to the crashed ship as...... Unknown Entity? It's almost as if the whole ship by their definition is some sort of living being or creature.

Now going back from what we know of Thargoids which may or may not be canon (no pun intended there) they used to build ships from their own organic matter.

This Palin guy has a real security problem...why should we bother giving Palin more info? Seems pretty tight-lipped yet always manages to get kidnapped or his data/meta-alloys stolen.

I was told to use this thread for barnacle discoveries on new planets. I'm happy to comply. :p

Sorry, I know, less news than the thargoid arrival.

So is it normal for a capital ship to transmit static and bleeps? Because the capital ship from today's event does, near the communication array at the bottom of the ship...
Captial ships have previously shown images of the Elite Logo etc when running them through Audacity or similar programs, and displaying them as Spectrograms. Try recording the sound and do that. Perhaps it's the same image, or perhaps it's something new.

While watching the video regarding the fairly bogus claim of hostile aliens I started thinking about how a shooting war might look considering our weapons currently do zero damage.

I'm suspicious if there is a shooting war then combat ships will need to be re-outfitted with special weapons possibly specially engineered shields or power plants to offset their capabilities. That could make for some interesting decisions and probably a ton of forum angst. Again, assuming there's a shooting war.

Bad form quoting one's self blah blah blah.

Given today's announcement I have now gone from 'suspicious' to 'willing to bet a reasonable amount of money'. By next week I anticipate being quite certain.

Hmmm, this Thargoid ship appears to be armed with some kind of mine/bomb, whatever...

WHAT WE KNOW.
1. The Thargoids are coming.
2. They blew up some Capital Ships.
3. They appear very tough.
4. They can shut down our ships.
5. They use barnacles for something.
----------------
So, the Thargoids are coming and they are hostile. They have far superior armour to us and can shut down our ships. This makes me think we're going to need rebuy funds, or build small, cheap but dangerous ships (Vulture, Courier?) to defeat them. Alternativley, we could trash the barnacles, so they couldn't use them. Whatever it is, they do it fairly regularly, so it is probably important.

Just a general observation. When we find whatever the flower ships are taking from the barnacles (assuming they're taking something and not injecting something), we'll know what they're looking for in our ships during the hyperdictions, it would seem to me. My theory is that when they beam us in the hyperdiction, they're looking to see if we can give them/they can take the same thing they can get from the barnacles (fuel, repair materials, ???). In the hyperdictions, they haven't found what they want yet, so they just move along. When they find "it" at the barnacles, they proceed to suck it out and move on. Not sure if there's some analysis that could be done to identify the materials or combination of materials they're getting from the barnacles, and then we'll know what we should or shouldn't be carrying, depending on what happens to us after they hit us with their beam when we have the "right" materials.

This seems to be a very astute hypothesis!

Har! I'm just here to gloat over all those doubting Thomas-es valiantly refuting the thargoid origin of the flower ships (you know who you are...) [cool]

Well it was always highly likely, but as this thread is devoted to science then we required evidence of that link. A good scientist doubts everything until there is evidence. It does peeve me slightly that we have been given this in a livestream rather than in-game

Alright you know what it's THEORY TIME with Substitute Teacher EAGLE 5.

So today we got the news that our flowery friends aren't really friends and they are Thargoids. It is safe to assume that this a 100% correct statement since the man himself has confirmed it in his latest video. NOW... I interrupt myself to first and foremost state, that what I'm about to say is based on one cornerstone assumption and that should it turn out to be incorrect the theory collapses into baseless speculation.

The assumption is this: Humanity did encounter the Thargoids in the past, went to war with them (Elite 1), used the INRA Mycoid virus to infect and disable their biological processes which were tied to hyperdrive technology, lost touch with them (Elite 2), interacted with them again in (FFE) before losing track of them completely.

I am not going to go over the war, we know it happened. We also know of the INRA Mycoid virus and that the Alliance stepped out to reach out to the Thargoids and deliver an antidote which brought about peace with the aliens... or so we thought. I say that because following the peaceful establishment of relations and the beginning of scientific exchange, contact was once again lost seemingly overnight only to be replaced with vague history re-writing and coverups of the whole incident... until the events of ED started happening.

Now here is a critical question that I think begs to be asked and needs to be answered: Who did the Alliance give the Mycoid cure to? Was it "The Thargoids"? or was it perhaps "Some Thargoids?".

It has been said before that the original Thargoids we went to war with, were more of a... scouting party and that we had just scratched the surface. It is also quite possible that, in the natural disarray that followed after the infection, some elements within Thargoid ranks began to question the direction of events (perhaps feeling abandoned by their kind) and that that may have even rebelled or splintered off pushing for a more "peaceful" existence compared to the warrior like status quo. It was this group then that reached out to the Alliance and received treatment... and by default independence from the others who would rather fight for their way of life. Outnumbered and outgunned the splinter group took off with their restored hyperdrives before the rest of Thargoid society showed up and probably blitzed them for defying the natural order of things.

Since then we have witnessed the coming of UAs, UPs, Barnacles and now these odd ships that seem to be capable of shutting us down at their leisure, more or less harmlessly in the case of the UP and the Ship... or with lasting caustic effect as with the UA. The abnormality here is the Barnacles which don't seem to cause damage per-se, rather they reverse the problems caused by the UAs through Meta Alloy production..... they are also the elements that seem to catch the Unknown Ships' attention (I speculate) probably for this healing ability.

Putting all this together I think Lab 69 is probably going to get very busy and will probably need some major cash infusion to counter this. My theory is this: The Ships/Flowers/Unknown Entities (if we are going to reference the video) are indeed Thargoids closer to our original enemies from Elite 1 but with about 200 years of evolution/upgrades on their side particularly to overcome on their own the ill effects of the Mycoid virus. The ironic vengeful twist is that they seem to want to do unto us what has been done to them... namely defeat through technological breakdown. Have you noticed in the teaser how the Elite Dangerous RA started corroding? that's very symbolic as the RA of the Elite Federation of Pilots could very well symbolize Humanity's society in space. They are eagerly awaiting reinforcements before "The Return" and they are NOT HAPPY with us. If this theory holds true, then this is indeed very bad news... all the history, all the coverups, and secret military contingency plans of new bubbles, fake uniting wars between the Feds and Imps (INRA anyone?) will be proven valid and we will have to make a choice as to what sort of scientists we are going to be at that point.... make no mistake there will be some hard decision that will push the boundaries of ethics.
