Alien archeology and other mysteries: Thread 10 - The Canonn

The presence of this code in the audio is actually quite intriguing, for many reasons. The main thing that sticks out for me is how the pattern in the audio spectrum resembles the pattern the Thargoid scouts (we can call them that, right?) produces when it is scanning your ship during hyperdiction. Maybe I am barking up the wrong tree with this, but it looks as if there is, in fact, a code in it.

PS, I'm in the process of looking at the audio morse code message. As far as I can tell so far (only as far as UNKOWN VESSELS DETECTED), it looks legit. I'll do the rest later.

Yup, and then might put additional ship features - such as 'Gas Giant Approach Suite' - behind a paywall, thus replacing the 'do you have Horizons?' question.

If they're abandoning the "Seasons" approach... it'll be interesting to see what they do considering they sold a bunch of people "Lifetime Passes" for all seasons of content for $200 USD.

Lifetime entitles you to any new content. It does not matter if the 'New features' in 3.0, 3.1 and 3.2 are sold separately or in a season package.

Those 200 bucks should last until it's time for Elite Deadly.

Indeed. As a Lifetime Pass owner myself, I hope lifetime means lifetime...

...or for Elite Death...
however I paid far less than 200 bucks ;)

Oh I'm certain I'm not going to miss out on anything (Recent CG examples notwithstanding), but I wonder what the tangible difference between owning the base game and having a lifetime pass will make in the absence of seasons, and how that measures up against the $200 USD pricetag. Time will tell I guess.

Yes - also a 'founder' here, and I'm not concerned. The deal was all DLCs or whatever. Obviously that didn't cover bobbles/paint packs etc, but I was never bothered by that either.

And I bought a second Horizons account for Verity Gavroche as well!

Who, I believe, is still sitting in her Transit Van (Hauler) at one of the barnacle sites in the Pleiades, or possibly at the crashed Alien ship. I forget.
Might have to send her over to the Gnosis, actually.

Back when the lifetime pass was first on sale, there were no "Seasons", only expansions. All they've mentioned so far is that they won't be using season bundles in the same way, but there is no indication that there won't still be expansions.

See previous AMA from Mr Braben, his thoughts are customers did not like pre-paying for drawn-out content (spacelegs get a mention too): https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/64pp4c/ask_him_anything_david_braben_obe_fdev_ceo/

Edit: I do think a clear statement on the matter is overdue from Fdev, all this uncertainty's not good for the community.

<back on topic>

Any thoughts on the insect-like sounds in this video? Sounds like something alien is coming from that destroyed cap ship (skip to 2:40 )

The LEP was sold before "Seasons" were even a glint in someone's eye. The only thing you need to focus on is that it has always been said that if you purchased one then you will get any future paid expansions for free. It makes no difference whether they're called Seasons, Months, or bananas :p

Really big expansions are likely to be paid for while we also intend for some smaller free updates. If you have pledged to to £80 tier or above you will receive all expansions for free.

*Edit* Good to see there was a typo even in the kickstarter page ;)

This is true, but, from a financial and legal point of view, they have to release at least some further paid content at some point in future, otherwise issue a partial refund to lifetime pass owners, particularly those who bought their lifetime pass at the end of 2015 who have effectively got nothing from it so far.

Edit: I've seen a few posters argue that lifetime pass is a "Buyer Beware" purchase, and if FD decide not to release any more content, tough luck. However, if you look at the way they are accounting for these in their public financial reports, you can see that this is legally not correct.

Edit: Also - going off topic here - sorry I didn't even see which thread this was when I replied :)

If I could get my avatar to smile, I would do so, to express my genuine pleasure at having the Cannon thread back to normal. It's great to be discussing theories again!

Carry on!

Now we just need to see the 'Shat Happens' avatar of the good Dr and it really will be back to normal :)

Just went there tonight and also looked around and into the cockpits of the smaller vessels. Nothing that I could see, I'd hate to be the one to say...abduction...but maybe?? Or maybe they were disintegrated by the Thargoid weapons.

If any crew survived more likely they took to escape pods and were picked up by Federation clean up team. The Feds would not like any nasty gossip getting out.:)

The 2015 people got Horizons, the same as those of us who had it from the start. If Frontier don't even release any more paid expansions, we have still had one for "free". Good enough for me :D Not that it will be the last.

Also I really don't think there's much that's off topic here :p

For whatever it's worth... quoting FD:
Be quick! The Lifetime Expansion Pass is only available on our store until the 14th September.Reserve your seat for every season of expansions in Elite: Dangerous and get access to every Beta build too.
The terms are most definitely conflated by FD... but it's kindof irrelevant to the point I was making (I didn't go into it too much because it's quite off-topic and I'm in the middle of fighting a war)... I'm not "worried", "concerned" or anything about this... just voicing some genuine curiosity about how they're going to package this stuff if not in "seasons of expansions" any more (and posted here coz I haven't read about it anywhere else yet). What $200USD is worth is up to the individual for certain, but it does leave open exactly what people bought into back then. I was a Kickstarter too, and have my physical copy which is all but useless now because of the launcher changes, but I don't care, I figured that would happen and now it sits on my shelf amongst all the other trinkety things I hoard :p

Horzions was quite clearly gated at the ability to interact with a planet, but that methodology was always going to come unstuck when future releases would bring in things like Thargoids.

Anyways, back to fighting the war :)
