Frustration Diagnosis

I am ok with the lack of updates up until now. A new newsletter is due soon and I really hope, or expect, that *something* PS4 related will be there.

Unfortunately, it will all be 2.4 related as that is the only big news for FDev. The addition of a large platform pool does not imply importance to them even if it has a great effect at the bottom line.

I am lucky in that I already play on PC so I know what to expect for gameplay. So I am disappointed in FDev marketing but not jaded.

There is a gaming world outside this forum. And there are some pretty hostile views when it comes to gaming's ability to be inclusive of all types of people. And make no mistake - games by women, games supportive of the LGBTQ community, any game that pushes boundaries - are routinely castigated by a mob of "gamers" who are threatened by such inclusiveness. Take a stroll through a Mass Effect forum. The hatred on display is disgusting and disturbing.

Knowing this, why is anyone spending their time raging against FDEV? It speaks of an utter lack of critical perspective.

Look. I'm new here, and that anti-FDEV attitude - and all its weird gripes that make no sense to PS4 players who don't even have the game yet - is mystifying to me. And yet, everyone is reacting primarily emotionally to what I've said around here. People will read what they want to read; to be honest, I just didn't expect that from a community where the game it supports is so rooted in science and exploration. Some people seem to be conflating themselves with their ideas. Take issue with an idea, and you've taken issue with the person. I'd argue that those two things must remain separate in one's life, otherwise, everything is personal. Nothing can be debated, and everything can be an insult. In such a place, voices are silenced. And forums become echo chambers. It's telling when you find yourself on an Ignore list without having specifically attacked anyone by name. Unless, of course, quoting someone's idea as a starting point in a debate is viewed as an attack.

i don't know what forum's you go on but the majority i go on are all friendly and helpful, and i have never hid the fact i am a transgender m to f and proud of it. and as for the anti-FDev quote you seem to take umbridge with then if you have been in here for any length of time you would of known most are tongue in cheek rants to get FDev to communicate anything even a witty come back.

anyway your new here like you said so i will give you some advice, don't jumped to conclusions until you have gotten to know us.

You mistake anti-FDEV attitude (at least from me, and what I read on the PS4 forums) for anti-why-are-you-not-talking-about-PS4-details-FDEV attitude. There is a big difference.

+1, for the defence of our insane little corner of the forums

I disagree. I'm glad I'm getting a ps4 version. Frankly what is there to hype? It's the same game which already exists on PC and xbox. My only "concern" is the Thargoid event is happening and I'll be a noob with a beginner ship but it adds to the challenge.

Patience.

Since neither has been defined for PS4 players, it still makes little sense to me. Someone in another forum described anti-FDEV to me as lifetime Kickstarter backers getting upset that a "lifetime" of Elite was really just turning into a 10 year plan, and that that 10 year plan is now just periodic narrative updates and QoL fixes. On the PS4 side, I just don't even know what it's about. Maybe just boredom and impatience?

Jupiter67, it might be wise to keep quiet for a bit.

A bit of a history lesson to bring you up to speed with this group.

As a group, we are generally positive about the future of Elite on PS4 and have been living off scraps for a long time now.
Since the launch announcement first came out in December 2017, we have banded together, pooling what little information is available to ascertain what is going on.
We have had
- people pawing over annual reports,
- people keeping an eye of the stock market, looking for Frontier announcements
- people looking at which games conferences Frontier attends throughout the year in an effort to sniff out where and when more detail will surface.
- people who have gone over Frontier's previous launch methods with both PC and Xbox in an attempt to work out how the PS4 game will launch
- a whole host of people tuning in to the live streams dissecting every word Ed uttered in the hope that he would let something slip.

At no time have we been anti anyone. Not once anti-FDev, anti-LGBT, anti-PC or anti-Xbox
Pax-East saw the first footage of PS4 gameplay, albeit brief and only training missions but it did validate to a degree the launch trajectory.
We identified that E3 represented the last games con where Elite could be showcased before launch. When this was mirrored by Frontier confirming that they were going to attend, we all looked to the tune in to the livestreams for the final piece of the reveal, two weeks before launch.

It was this that I believe lead to the forum content of the last few days. It is not salt. Salt is reacting to what we don't like. This was something different. There was nothing to react to.

Two Frontier livestreams and a Sony presentation with absolutely no mention of PS4.

Thankfully, Brett, Lloyd and Ed have come through latterly and acknowledged that they need to do something to communicate with us.

+1 for well written piece of history

So open and welcoming. Nice.

Finally, some light on the matter! Appreciated, thank you!

No one suggested anyone here was any of those things, least of all me. Invoking those ideas was about critical perspective. It was intended as commentary about the spectrum of rage aimed at game developers these days, and how disastrous it ultimately is in any form. I just don't accept it as justified in any way. And yet people will endlessly go out of their way to justify it. That's what's truly upsetting to me.

Don't get upset, embrace it. This past few days here has been particularly rocky, I guess its pre-release nerves. Hopefully this will settle down a bit with Lloyd/Brett releasing something and the games launch.

Anyway, welcome aboard CMDR o7.

PS: Good post Snowy!

Order ORDER!

Mr. FDev is it not true that you are planning a ninja marketing campaign after launch and that you're trying to avoid a tragedy akin to the "No Man's Sky" incident? And what about these allegations of a secret partnership with Microsoft?

OBJECTION! This all pure speculation, move to strike your honor.

In other news a recent study has shown that the upcoming PS4 Elite: Dangerous launch is causing many anxious players to pull out their own hair. Film at 11.

(Also I think I kind of want "Jupiter67" to just ... go away.)

Nicely put and spot on [smile]

We have a great little section over here on the PS4 Forums, lets all keep the positive outlook and enjoy the comradery.

In principle, I agreed with everything you wrote in your first post, and I can understand that from the outside it looks like people here are being critical for no reason. But you simply lacked a bit of context. I don't think that Snowy was trying to patronize you, just to explain. We like this place to be friendly for everyone.
