FD, are you serious? New Dolphin and Orca paints :(

It's not the worst thing I've ever seen.
It's not the best thing I've ever seen.
It would look alright if I were 3d printing toys/models of these.

But I'm still trying to hold out hope that the art asset folks will finally get the message and release what I actually would buy:

The Single Color for Any Ship Pack

Let's say I happen to like red ships, so I would glady spend $4 or $5 possibly even $6 for a Red Color Pack, that allows me to paint any of my ships Red.

Currently if I want to paint all my ships red - it would cost me $120 to buy ($4 per paint pack*31 ships) 31 paint packs, which will have roughly 155 paint jobs I do not want for the 31 I do.

If the Recording Industry can learn that people do not want to pay $20 for a CD that contains only one song they like and adapt, I'm pretty sure Frontier can figure this out as well.

Gosh, they're adorable! ♥ I wouldn't get one myself, as I don't really like the Saud Krugers, but that's a very sweet and cutesy look for a passenger ship.

(It's also a pretty good look for a pirate wanting to really throw people off-guard.)

On a similar note, I really like the Predator paint pack, especially the pink, and hope it may become available for a few more ships that I actually might like to use.

Obviously to go along with the candy-dolphin-Dolphin we are also missing the legendary "sharks' teeth" for the kinds of ships pirates like to fly. Come on, that's a classic—you don't have to have Kraits or Mambas actually fitted with FSDs to appreciate the general æsthetic as a classic Elite pirate look.

The Single Color for Any Ship Pack
Oh, please. The only one of those we have had is the Black Friday set, but that would be much appreciated.

I've been saying this for ages. Why do I have to buy five vibrant paints I wont use to get the one orange one I will*. Whereas a pack of six orange ones, even if split "Delacy Orange"; "Lakon Orange" etc would be amazeballs.

*obviously because selling on a per ship basis makes me buy more and this is a business run for profit not a charity run to make their customers feel happy, but I'm an idealist old sod soo

It's a matter of taste, like with all art. Some think Picasso works are masterpieces, I find his paintings terrible (apart from the early, realistic works). Some think Phantom Menace was great, I lasted 20 minutes. Some think Coelho is one of the greatest authors that ever lived, I think he's pathetic. Some don't like Blade Runner, to me it's the best movie ever made. Some think Nirvana is just loud bullpoo, I love their music.

Some will hate these paintjobs, others will like them.

There is no right or wrong here, just opinions.

Interesting coincidence! I'd just read an article on Paulo Coelho's The Alchemist and why it's a joke (https://literaryvittles.wordpress.com/2014/09/17/is-this-a-joke-paulo-coelhos-the-alchemist/)

Now I want military grey paint jobs for my passenger ships. Thinking of it, for all my ships. Why isn't there a medium grey paint for ships? There are so many different shades of grey. US cargo plane grey, German Feldgrau, stone grey, dust grey, black grey, Fehgrau (squirrel grey - lol)…
Maybe a 18% grey to turn ships into grey cards?

I want a paint job pack with different grey paints.
You will just have to settle for Black Friday (Black), Tactical Graphite (Grey), Tactical Ice (White), and perhaps Military Marine (Blue/Grey - ok not really grey but close in overall effect) ;)

Based on the Op´s post, I though it was gonna be dreadful. But they are ok, not anything mind blowing, but neither terrible. Keep in mind these aren't combat, nor trading or explorer vessels but commercial passenger crafts. Actually, if the universe and lore were to be deeper, I wouldn't mind a paintjob from a popular 3301 tv show.

=)

The blue dolphin is exactly the shade I was wanting! ...strangely, doesn't look as good on the orca. Slight nudge towards deep blue, but not as far as the normal vibrant blue.

Pretty sure FD knows a number of people want this. The issue is less "Can FD figure out you want it?" and more "There are people who will happily spend that $120. Are there more than twenty to thirty times as many than that who would spend $4 - $6 to make it more profitable to do it your way?"

You're demanding twenty to thirty times cost reduction in a good that is selling. You need to have overwhelming demand on your side to make it worth doing. You're not just suddenly a market worth investing in just because you declare you have a price you're willing to pay.

I'd be willing to buy the full Adobe Creative Suite, if I could get it for $50. I don't demand Adobe "figure out" I'm a market worth investing in.

1) Diving equipment gets that kind of coloring (colouring if your British).
2) Children's toys get those kind of colors

I'm sure some people will like it and that's ok.

I'd like to find a flames paint job for some of the ships I own.

lovely dolphins, they're passenger ships and really there's no legit reason to complain about bright, civvy style colours.

on another note - looking at that Boeing, we totally must establish what Elite universe has in place of Pikachu. or at least assume Tracy the Cute Thargoid and have a paintjob like that.

Ok, I clamoured for paints for the Dolphin. But please, don't blame me for this.

Usually, I like what FD is bringing on. But come on, this isn't my little pony. The two-tone idea is nice, but the execution... I wouldn't want to be seen dead in that. "Cute" is the first idea that came to my mind - but I supposed this was Elite Dangerous, not Elite Digestive Biscuit.

In 3303, there are many clones of Steve Jobs made from archived DNA. Of course we're going to have ships that look like this:

I like it! But then again I love the look of Team Burst's D1SL cars...

...and I'm saving up for a pink version of the type of wheels Naoki Nakamura's using. Haters gonna hate, and all that.
