Youtuber Kornelius Briedis seems to have had it with Fdevs

Probably not....

Kornelius was a well known figure in the ED community who posted a lot of interesting and insightful videos about the game. But he seemingly grew disillusioned with its progress and direction and that was it... He dropped it.

I'd suggest this is the same disillusionment that quite a few of the community are having which accounts for the greater amount of negativity we see on the fourm? Indeed, IMHO this in turn probably even accounts for the recent announcement from FD to finally go back and give the core of the game some love...

We're at a bit of an important moment IMHO. We'll see the direction the game is going to take. Deeper more involved mechanics and gameplay, or continued simpler bolt on affairs...

The thing is, most people who spread negativity can't agree on a direction where the game should be heading. 100 people think that FDEV is doing it wrong for 100 different reasons. Should they focus on Exploration, PvP, Guilds, Core Mechanics or better infrastructure? It's not difficult to provide criticism. But providing constructive criticism that everybody can agree on is almost impossible with this community. That's why I don't care if some random guy from the internet quits playing a game. And no, I don't care if he is a "known" Youtuber. He is not Sean Connery (and I wouldn't even care what Mr Connery has to say on the game...).

Gotta admit, I did read this topic and think "Who?".

EDIT: So, a youtuber with 14,000ish subs... so a relative nobody?

World of Warcraft
Star Trek online
Star wars knights of the old republic
Planet side 2

Rocket League

All those either still have a considerable player base or have a Growing player base.

And I'm pretty sure at least ONE person has stopped playing them too. I don't see the point.

Oh, well, if Kornholius or whatever has pulled back...

...

then who cares? It's not like YouTube actually matters, nor do any of these people who think their opinions actually matter. Anybody with a mic can be a YouTuber. They're barely pennies apiece.

Seems he has given up on the game due to many bad designs.

Any evidence for this? I had a brief look, but I didn't see anything on his channel suggesting that Kornelius thought the game had "many bad designs" or that he'd "had it with Fdevs".

Do you have any links that back up the claim in the title? I'd be interested to read/watch some info on this.

It is likely that most subscribers to such a channel have already bought the game. I would think that very few of the subscribers are watching while trying to decide to play a game. Given this, the disappearance of said YouTuber is going to have a very minimal effect on sales or the game. Just like anyone else not playing it. FD have the actual statistics of their sales; I would suggest that those are a more important measure (and FD don't seem to be worried at all).

 Blasphemy!

Or maybe not... :)

EDIT: It appears I've already agreed with too many of your posts so you'll just have to accept this as rep.

Head meet nail. Pretty much. Plenty of comments on how FD should "add more depth" "focus on X" or whatever, but when you get down to it, everyone has their own ideas of what FD should focus on.

I'd personally prefer FD to not listen to all the people talking about adding more depth or refining existing systems and go full out on getting atmosphere worlds done and adding life to planets, EVEN if there was no strong gameplay attached. But i'm probably in a minority here.

So, ill just continue to play the game and enjoy what is there, rather than worrying about what isn't, and leave FD to do their job.

You mean you don't know?! But YouTube is the be-all and end-all of everything, have you not been paying attention? :p

What a ridiculous way of approaching this. You should be loud, obnoxious, and demand everything that you personally want in this game, and demand that it be provided immediately or you will cry. ;)

In today’s video game industry, youtube most definitely matters. A positive presence on streaming media is extremely beneficial for game studios, as it’s free yet effective marketing that greatly helps generate hype and sales. People like Kornelius, Scott Manly, and Ant have helped Elite sell copies, a lot. Frontier knows this too, it’s why they have the CTRL ALT SPACE competitions and it’s why they put youtube streamer videos directly into their own newsletters, or name stations in the game after youtubers and such.

Sure anyone with a mic can be a youtuber, but not necessarily a successful youtuber with thousands of subscribers and regular followers. Big difference there, and to be honest Kornelius was a very successful Elite youtuber who had a positive impact on the game’s community. Losing him is a big deal, make no mistake about it.
