Youtuber Kornelius Briedis seems to have had it with Fdevs

He may be the #1 contributor of EDUCATIONAL content to the ED community on YouTube. But now that he's stopped playing (at least for now) I suppose it's time to pretend he didn't exist. It's just pathetic and I certainly hope FDev isn't as self-centered or as arrogant as some of these posters. I'm almost ashamed to have to share a forum with some of these folks. Just so very disappointing.

Good grief. Grow up and find a pair eh?
Somethings pathetic alright but it not what you think.

Sorry, not heard of the KB guy. I'm having too much fun flying a spaceship to spend time watching someone else doing it.

Cheers
DZ

He had lots of videos about PvP builds right? I remember him making big deals out of things which are minor quibbles to anyone other than min-maxers. Sounds like another case of the minority assuming the game is broken because it's not all about them.

As a trader, PvE'er, occasional casual PvPer, the videos just weren't that compelling sorry.

(Although to be fair he sounded like Dracula and that was pretty funny. But now I have Yamiks for that.)

What is the active player base in ED at the moment? Is there a graph or data somewhere that publishes this kind of information? Thanks!

Since when has £500 - £800 been within the price realm of "disposable"? Maybe for the privileged, as it appears you are, but for most people, £800 is a considerable amount of money. And yeah, ooh, consumerism is bad, power to the people etc... etc... but none of your diatribe changes the facts, no matter how hard you want it to.

Yeah, they're not that much here in the States.
And there's nothing wrong with consumerism, capitalism or free-market enterprise - the problem is entirely with the advertising industry. Perhaps you missed the comment from a certain advertising executive who was quoted for saying (to paraphrase) "getting up from a show during the commercials to use the rest room, get a drink, or do household chores is skipping out on your moral obligation to the advertisers that paid for this programming."

And that's just one of many, many examples. This is an industry that feels every means of communication is nothing more than a medium for them.

I feel 2.4-->3 will give a good indication of where FD plan to take us. If it isn't to deeper waters, I think that's the end of the line most likely for me. ie: If after three years there's no desire (ability?) for them to deepen the mechanics, after years of the community increasingly asking for it, I can't see it happening later on...

3.0 will be the MOST IMPORTANT update so far for me, it was multicrew for 2.0 and it ended in the trash can as soon as it was described here in the forums (no engineer, no non combat crew? what a JOKE!).

3.0 will be the update that will demonstrate if FD is capable of doing a game or not.

Acording to steam during "major" events it goes to 10.000 maximum concurrent players. On any other day its 4.500-5.000. Thats for steam only but you get the picture.

BWAHAHAHAH! Oh man, that brought tears to eyes. An advertising exec - talking about morals! I have not laughed so hard in a week!

Z...

For my part, Cornelius wasn't a "who?". But I never followed his stream because of the really grating accent.

Shallow, I know, but for the few second languages I speak I do at least try to get the accent as close as I can when speaking the language.

Maybe I'm getting old, but I'm still trying to wrap my head around the idea of watching someone's youtube video about the game that I could actually be playing if I weren't watching youtube...

A youtuber stops playing for only one reason: He is able to gather more clicks when he changes to a different game. We are talking about business here, not "loving" a game. Only a minor base of youtubers really are enthusiasts.

Then that's an indicator that Elite's popularity is going down, if Elite was stable or growing in popularity then those views should make him stay in Elite.

Yeah, but conversely GTA5 isn't a niche game within a niche market. People know what it is and know what to expect. Elite is a different beast, many people looking into it these days will be looking at it as a fresh IP. The public discourse surrounding it will have a far greater impression on the potential market than it does for GTA5.

And GTA5 is not a game in development unless you decide to buy the DLCs.

Random youtuber equals youtuber with 1/6 the suscriber amount of the most popular elite youtuber.

Obsidian's subscriber base are mostly casuals. Kornelius' subscriber base were all veterans. That is the key difference. Also people would watch, rewatch, and pause Kornelius' videos because they contained useable info in every installment. Even old pros would watch Kornelius and learn something.

Scott Manley ,astonomer, rocketeer, loves elite, superb voice, over 600000 youtube subscribers.

I wonder how many he has brought to Elite?
(He does many space games and doesn't concentrate on ED)
