It's time to push for Cross-Play

Now with Microsoft finally opening the world of Cross-Play, what better way to enjoy a multi platform game with a shared lore and universe than with that Cross-Play functionality? Elite Dangerous not only needs this but also is the perfect pioneer to test this. The age when the Community is split in diferent realms must finish.

I´ld like to know what you think of this, would you support i? or be against it?

If it was possible, I'd like it. I play on the PC, and have recommended this game to many friends who game in console; some of them are playing right now. Being able to hang out with them in-game would be great. However, I do wonder what kind of network issues that would entail.

Totally agreed - I do seem to remember one of the dev's mentioning that it was possible, but politics was stopping it

I truly hope PC, Mac, XB and PS4 can live together as one.

It would also mean more people in open, which would help make the game feel more alive for those that choose open for their gaming experience.

Z...

I thought the PC version had to be whatever they're calling Games for Windows these days to be able to work with Xbox. UWP maybe? But I agree, it would be great. Forget about Sony though, they too scurred to allow it...

Would love to see this. My brother has the game on Xbox, and as we live 200 miles away from each other it would be a really neat way for us the hang out. I mean, we could play another game, but that would mean I had to play another game. I'm pretty sure my FDL isn't in any other games.

Of course, dude. All of these platforms should be sharing Open together (or Group, if that's your bag).

Yes, some statement on what the politics are that mean this isn't a good idea would be good. Maybe its not alienate the PS4 players.

Push Sony. They're the ones holding things up at this point.

Would be cool too if then each platform had a unique paintjob or something... we could settle the console wars once and for all!

Gets my vote. The more players in the universe, the better (for those of us that appreciate such things).

Plus it might push Sony in that direction as well. Ars Technica ran an article on Sony's attitude to cross-platform gaming, and (from memory) it seemed to basically boil down to:

Ars: do you have any philosophical objections to allowing cross-platform play on the PS4?
Sony: Not at all!
Ars: so are you going to allow it?
Sony: No.

Sony has, is and will use the excuse that the contract it has with it's players means they have to keep them safe but lets face it... Exclusive to Sony means access to your wallet as well as games.

I seem to remember their argument was around them having a level of duty of care for their playerbase.

You can read that many ways but here is my take....

I remember when I bought Dark Souls 2, I specifically went for the PS3 version to avoid the PC hackers/cheats.

If it were cross play I would have had no choice, I would simply have had to accept that hackers would invade and kill me.

The same applies to ED given what's recently come to light.

So on the face of it cross platform seems great for console players, but the con is you then have to play with the exploiters.
