FDev, you just upset a *lot* of people.

Don't worry, this will hit them in the wallets for sure. They don't do anything about combat loggers. They don't do anything about people who used cheats in open play PvP (I still see people in open I know 100% used to use shield hacks) but people use an exploit to lessen the garbage engineer grind and they finally decide this is the time to take a stand?

Just about everyone I have talked to is walking away from the game now. This will hurt everyone, including the non-PvP crowd.

Enjoy the emptiness of open play because a large portion of the players who frequent open are quitting.

For starters, the self righteousness in your post is staggering.
There a loads of people who dislike what you describe as the engineers grind, and yet they somehow managed not to bypass it by cheating.
And then there are the people who don't even have Horizons, and will suffer from "god-rolled" opponents they encounter in open play just the same.
There is also a big difference between this exploit and combat loggers, nobody looses anything from CLing.
How many billions worth of ships, modules and cargo do we reckon were lost through the exploit ?
If you "know 100%" about people using hacks, you can report them, nothing gives you or anyone else the right to "self justice", you're not "special" in that respect, nobody is.
Highly unlikely that any of this will hit FD in the wallet, quite the opposite.
News of MMO publishers cleaning up their act, and taking a strong stance on cheaters and exploiters, will bring more straight players back into the game than it drives crooks away.
It's the best PR they can possibly get.
Also, you got it all wrong, this is good news for PvE'ers and PvP'ers alike.
For Pvp'ers it's a big step towards restoring a level playing field, and for PvE'ers it means a much better chance to escape encounters legitimately and without CL'ing.
This is win-win for everyone....well, except for you know who.

What even was this exploit?

I presume it's bee killed now so it's safe to share???

It's been removed, yes. If you interrupted the engineering sequence you could force the game to use grade 1 materials (abundant) instead of grade 5 materials (very rare) for a grade 5 roll. So doing many hundreds of grade 5 rolls became very easy indeed, which allowed the maximisation of modules without the 'cost' of finding the relevant materials.

Ho ho! You threatening FD and the honest player base? Bring it on, sunshine. As far as I'm concerned you and they can't leave quickly enough. Don't let the door hit your backside on the way out, it might be a bit sore from the tanning FD gave it.

Bye bye. Missing you already (not).

Punishment for the crime. If all they did was remove the cheats, then there would still be incentive to cheat. A temporary benefit with no downside is still a net benefit.

Frontier's choice was very mild imo. No one was banned. They got to keep their unrelated mods. That's extremely generous.

Methinks someone is chortling a bit too much :)

Wrong. I am going to buy a crapton of paintjobs now to show my support for this action of swift justice.

Christ, I go away for a bit for some ship massacring and come back to find the thread 15 pages long and a bunch of posts saying "WELL YEAH CUZ THEY CHEATED" and apparently calling me a cheater, despite an explicit statement by me saying it's a good thing I didn't cheat.

No shnikies they cheated, geniuses. I don't much like cheaters any more than you guys do. Though to be fair I did kind of go straight to the forums after seeing initial reports because in my mind I'm thinking "Well these god rolls are suspect, and if mine even approaches those the month I spent grinding for my FAS to be fully engineered was all for nothing."

I still think it was handled rather clumsily though... and the loss of just a G5 dirty drive would make anyone ragequit. :D

Brutal. I'm very glad it's been closed as obviously it's a total slap in the face for all us legit RNG Grinders, especially if you really weren't convinced by Engineers and were only really doing it to stay competitive.

Yep. I must say I'm really, really grateful to frontier on this one. I'm curious how the field will look at the next CG. Well, I suppose he next one will have a lot of heat cannons so I might skip that...

Problem is, you make a thread making out like FD have done a bad thing here in relation to punishing cheaters, people are going to assume you did cheat, no matter what protestations you make.

If the thread has gone in a direction you are not happy with, you can always request us to lock it.
