Why are the stars in the Galmap so g hard to grab?

The GalMap went from a really useful tool to another barnacle of frustration. Also, I used to be able to mouse hover over a star and pretty much instantly see who's there from my friends list. Not anymore. It either takes forever or don't work at all.

Selecting stars in the galmap with a control pad (PS4) is definitely still more fidgety than it used be. Sometimes I have to zoom in and out until I can properly select a star and make the popup menu show up.
It has been like this ever since the resolution bug in the galmap (2.3 I think) when it was sometimes impossible to select a star at all.
Should be fixed or else some of the coming PS4 users won't be happy.

This issue has been frustrating me for weeks now and this thread gives me an opportunity to have a bleat about it. Selecting stars has become really difficult and it seems like you need to see the start's name before it will connect. and if you zoom out, you don't always seem to be able to zoom back to the area you were trying to pick out a star. I have had to log out of the map and log back in to reset things and the times I have thought I have selected the right system only for it to latch onto something else....

Yup, know exactly what the OP is on about. Something changed recently and it's become incredibly frustrating to use.

Tilt the plane to see the target circle. Daft that it is seen totally flat and pointless. It should be made into a 3D ball not a flat circle we do not know of until we tilt.

This.

It is much easier when looking at the map from directly above (or below). Still not ideal though.

Am I the only one having this problem?

Between this and the bars on the menu screens being absurdly thin, I am finding myself fighting the interface all the time. Is this really necessary?

Generally, they seem to behave for me, but very occasionally (one time in a hundred?), I will get stars which don't react to the cursor unless I zoom in/out or rotate the map a little. I assume they are maybe too close to or too far from the camera and fall outside a 3D hit box/sphere. At roughly the same frequency, I get previously selected stars getting all needy and re-displaying their info instead of the star I'm hovering over.

Not just you. Since the last update a number of people have been complaining that you can't click on bookmarked stars like you used to (unless you do it from the list on the left of the map). I'm hoping it's one of those things getting fixed in the next update.

I have the same issues and it's very, very irritating for a dedicated explorer like myself. But I seem to remember it was mentioned as a bug somewhere and was scheduled to be dealt with. Somehow...

Yes OP - There was once a time when you could select a star no matter how far away, also when a friend was in a system or a bookmark, currently you have to keep faffing around zooming in trying to get a star to highlight. Pretty certain it's a bug, currently a royal pain in the rear for explorers.

Yeah it's particularly bad when exploring. For example I'm currently putting a sprint on through a neutron star field so I'm plotting jumps of roughly 220LY. I'm heading to a specific destination, trouble is zooming in tight enough to be able to get mouse-over data from a star (and therefore see how far away it is) means that I can't see anything like as much around my path as I used to be able to.

That in turn means I'm no doubt missing things that I would have diverted a jump away from my path to check out. Actually checking say a 40-50 LY radius around a 220LY jump path takes so long now that I'd be spending ten minutes and more per jump just scouring the galmap.

It seems to be a completely pointless change that has taken something that worked fine and turned it into a broken and infuriating chore.

This. Along with the text inputting on the star map which automatically highlights the full block when you try and put a cursor there and doesn't let you put a cursor where you please or highlight a section of text - at least that's how it works on mine and not how it used to work. Just a pointless change for changes sake many patches ago.

Because they never really 'Fixed' it - they only fudged it like they usually do... Its better than it was when 2.3 landed (I can at least use my 4k monitor once again), but yes, I'm having exactly the same hassles as you... The G/map is still a particularly annoying thing to use!

While on the topic of things not really getting fixed by FDev... Are other people still dealing with the bugged Camera Suite that still doesn't work for me?

Yeessssss..... I filed a bug report and Yeessssssss.... FDev did their usual 'Waste my Time' routine despite my efforts to upload video explicitly showing the problem. Has their response made me want to make an effort reporting ED bugs in the future ... Nooooooo... Because they don't get fixed - they are just bodged at best and at worse - just get closed!

Yes, it's now impossible to select anything on the galmap unless you're fairly closely zoomed in and yes it is irritating as hell.

Yes. It used to be, if I had a blip I could hover-select it with no problems.

Now... now unless I'm actually inside the core of the star in question, I have to type the name of the system into the finder and...

For once, OP, I agree with you.... but I have no ideas what you mean about the "bars on the menu screen", and so have chosen instead to reject you completely.

Buuuuuuuuuuump!

This needs real attention. If your cursor is on top of any icon (bookmark icon, mission icon, player icon) in the galMap, you should be able to click on it and have the map select the relevant star and zoom in to that location. This is how it *used* to work, and it was GOOD. Now, you have to manually zoom all the way until you're very close to the star before you will be able to select it. This is BAD. Stop destroying good things and replacing them with bad things. Instead, Start destroying bad things and replacing them with good things. Or just don't do anything. That would also be OK.

could be just me but im not having any issues selecting stars now since the update, even on the powerplay map where i was having most trouble is buttery smooth and highlight soon as i hover over.
