Maybe the bubble is permit-locked for the Thargoids 
But seriously, I've seen that the sites really don't like it when you transport Guardian relics inside it. It looks like the scavengers are hostile to whichever commander brought them in

The way I see it, the "map displayed by the alien machine cannot represent the whole galaxy, as it is simply too small. Similarily, it cannot be some extra miniature Thargoid home galaxy. Such a little galaxy would be globular, not spiral. So I say it's Thargoid surveillance room. Given the size of the galaxy, every one of those stars may represent a civilization developing somewhere and being spied on by Unknown Probes.
Concerning the spectrograph, there are two representations of Thargoid flowership on opposite sites, coming from opposing systems. Add to this the theory that the structure is some kind of a listening post/ Intelligence facility. What I see is two factions, possibly in conflict, spying on everything around them. Basically US/Soviet Russia and we've just found CIA/KGB site :/

I posted a comment on this to reddit and thought I'd share here as well.
I suspect this new graphic isn't a part or clue for any puzzle. It's simply a confirmation message. This is mostly based on the the logic that would be involved with the last spectrogram we found long ago that was determined to represent Merope 5c.
My assumption is that the bottom and top grid circles share a similar meaning to that of our target indicators. A solid circle means forward, and hollow means back. Use the 3 items to send a signal to Merope and the unknown system, then those will in turn send a signal back accompanied with Thargoid vessels. In short, the message would just be a crypic way of notifying us that the Thargoid attack has been activated.
CMDR here is saying he already tried various items not causing the same reaction the Guardian Relic did.
PLEASE TAKE NOTE. It seems there could be a reason here, and some evidences already.
Now we need to try some other items... to gain more evidences...

Could be an ancient Guardian vessel? Or an ancient AI ship?
Just a thought but since the Lave Radio incident, has anyone been to look at Guardian sites to see if anything is occurring there?
I thought about this myself. Maybe the sites need to be activated in a specific order, starting with site 5. But since every site is it's own instance I am not sure how this could possibly work as an instance resets when you leave it. Or would they actually have implemented something like this, that once site 5 was triggered (the map room activating) that one of the other sites becomes active for everyone across all platforms in every instance? Not sure it works that way.
Edit: I misread and didn't notice you said guardian sites. I myself was referring to the other thargoid structure sites. But my point would be the same about it being different and resettable instances etc.

What is the specific reaction to the Guardian tech from the machine apart from Scavengers being hostile?

I am currently at Communication Hub Zeta 12 in Electra. I have been scanning the satellites and attempting to scan the comm uplinks there. I have only been able to get one of the uplinks because... I keep getting attacked by mysterious defenders (NPCs).
Just a word of warning. I attempted to retaliate, but unfortunately, I was unable to make a dent in the shields of even the DX they sent after me. I'm now a safe distance away, and will be trying to get the other uplinks (there are 4) later today.

I remember reading the Guardians created prey creatures to hunt, and have long been wondering if the Thargoids might not be said creatures. They have had lots of time to evolve, after all.

This was the first relay to be found but afaik has not been completed yet. All 4 logs are posted in this thread about 40 pages back and mentions that there is a transmission broadcast 10 after the hour but it hasn't been found yet too my knowledge. Was planning on trying a few more times later tonight or tomorrow.

Do you know if they were attacking people before? I don't recall anyone reporting that, but I could be wrong.
Not sure if mentioned. all bases so far are on white or yellow star systems, no other type of star so far I do not think
Could possibly be a status map of their base sites? One color means it's active another means it's broken/inactive. The details will be hard to accurately analyze so not certain much can be gathered besides basic locations.
I'd been seeing some references to "delta-v" lately and looked up the meaning. Looks like it basically means "acceleration+direction" and is often represented simply by a "v". I've also been wondering at the v shapes on the alien items in the spectrograph image. Might they represent different delta-v's?

While activating the machine I tried putting one of the unknown technology cargo items in instead of the unknown link and it just got jettisoned behind me.
Also might be beer but could the lit up parts of the "map" correspond to the areas between what we consider the arms with the unlit parts being the arms of our galaxy. like i said beer so maybe just being dumb.
