Has MultiCrew gone the way of the Dodo too?

I've been trying to embrace this new feature. Equipped my boat for a small gunner role, and opened a seat. After hours of gameplay I think 2 commanders have joined my ship only to exit again shortly after without any kind of comms.

And if I look to see if others have a MultiCrew opening on their ship? Not a single one.

Has MultiCrew already gone the way of the Dodo, much like CQC and PowerPlay?

Not tried to do it with strangers but have done a couple of hours with a friend.

I think in terms of group activity it's much better with a friend or two as you can communicate orders and roles via voice comms a lot easier.

It is very fun PvE in a res or cz with turrets.

Certainly less viable PvP at the moment.

Very lacking in the non combat department... mining is pointless until they sort the income between players out. Would love to mine with friends and have proper roles and more than just trade bonds at the end.

Zero interest before it was launched...zero interest after it launched. Its a pvp and combat orientated affair so I glance over it but dont dwell on it because neither pvp or combat interest me very much. As a non combat player, mc is about as big a fail as it gets Im afraid because it offers absolutely zero options ^

I think multicrew needs to be fleshed out more for mining and trading it could be really fun but the income rewards are crap and not worth doing it.

Combat is the only purpose.

Though I'm not really sure how it could work for trading because you don't control the ship or shoot anything... with mining it should get a materials and fragments buff of some sort and the income should be able to be shared ie: ship owner sets income % share

I've used it a fair bit to teach my friend the ropes (he just got elite), and for that it has been very handy in the flight instructor role.

I wouldn't use it with random people though unless I was giving them instruction.

I suppose people at Sag A and other exciting places could use it to show off cool stuff.

Gave it a go today with a friend. Was fun for a bit but really is a shame that its combat only. Would have liked more stuff to do as a passenger. Plotting courses, scanning planets, fiddling with engineering..something.

Yep agree Thrudd... mining is defo something that could be changed easily

Just reaffirms my belief that they should've started with NPC crew that everyone could benefit from, everyone could have fun with, everyone could feel like they could invest time in their crew.

It could've been so much more, now with FD and their "if no one uses it then we won't touch it" mentality it means it's never going to get looked into again.

In the previous elite games you needed many crew for a single ship. Even if I could had a couple of bodies on the ship that I could level up to Elite, even if they only increased my scan range by 1% I'd be happier than I am now.

This is the game of missed opportunities, I really hope they pull it together with the "Core Fixes" coming after 2.4

Exploration has even less options unless yer ambition is to be a tour guide. Its possibly one of the least fleshed out add ons this game has had since it launched...its almost unforgivable when one think how much time and resources were spent developing it. That could have been spent actually improving something as opposed to ignoring what was broken and adding more unwanted useless junk that very few players will use.

Although what really killed it and more or less guaranteed a still birth was frontier themselves when they announced they would only develop it if players used it. That more than anything else killed the feature before it was even in the game as it demonstrated how little confidence they had in their own project.

That called "reading between the lines"

NPC multicrew would have been interesting even to me...but frontier...they special and different...they do things their way and just look how successful its been for them...

Multicrew mining options:
Scan operator: Able to scan other rocks for their contents while the ship is mining a different one, and tag "interesting" ones on the scanner for later attention.
Mining operator: Introduces turreted mining lasers that can be independently controlled - allowing multiple "gunners" to mine multiple rocks.
Pilotable collectors: Like SLFs and use a similar bay but they can collect 4-6 fragments before having to dock and offload. They use grapples not scoops, so no scooping involved - they are essentially pilotable collector limpets with a >1 capacity

So helm runs the ship and manages the refinery. Scan queues up good rocks to mine. Gunner(s) blast them and collector pilot gathers in the goodies faster than limpets can (and without cluttering the entire cargo bay with single-use limpets)

Told you so. Without properly fleshed out roles that go beyond combat, multicrew was doomed to fail. Of course they could still add more roles (science, engineering, etc) and give them stuff to do and turn this around, but from their last communications they were waiting to see how much the community receives this feature before expanding it. In the current state, I see no reason for a big community uptake that would cause FD to put in the neccessary work to make MC worth playing.

I'm using it currently to make videos of a friends travels to the other side of the galaxy (https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...he-black-and-I-offered-to-carry-the-camcorder) so it does kinda help there but other than that, it's mostly useless to me. And other than running the camera it's not really worth it.
Multicrew COULD have been amazing, if they had started with gameplay depth (and I know gamers are impatient FD so I don't totally blame you for this) and then spent the time on legs and multicrew and made it something more than an arcade shooter, I'd have loved it I think.

As all you can do in Multicrew is shoot turrets and fly SLFs, with nothing to do during lulls, MC is basically limited to RES farming and Combat zones.
As I don't acknowledge the existence of RES and CZs because of their horribly contrived and immersion breaking endless respawn mechanic, and because Frontier didn't want to spend the effort developping an Engineer/Science officer role (and the mechanics and content that would justify their existence) I have no interest in the feature.
