Why not the "little" ships

Reading a lot of post about the use or claiming for new little ships in Elite and the reallity that are full useless in 4 hours of game I try to answer:

For me the problem is that the missions reward alwais the best ships, if you want people flying an eagle, or similar, won´t be a bad idea a mision of escort for example.

example the CG, are designed for Cutters (trade) or FDL,FAS, Vette, Conda (combat) any other it´s only a voyeur.

In my opinion one of the problems in elite is the no class ships. Each misión should need a class, escort, fight, ground assault, tradding,....but now it´s only a race to get one of the big three or a Python full ing that really works for all.

This has been mentioned before but you're quiet right.
There is little need to fly anything that isn't a 'conder outside of wanting a cheaper rebuy cost.

There need to be outposts and small bases that only have small landing pads.

That would make some small ships popular in the same way that the Python is the current 'go anywhere' ship.

Don't see the need, I spend most of my time in a cobra despite having 2 of the big 3 and having a lot of the others. If people want to fly big ships they will if they want to fly small ships they will. It's easy enough to use an eagle for high end assasination missions if you know how to fly it. The idea of making missions for specific ships will just mean that missions are made easier for a larger payout with a small ship. Can't see the point personally.

First I use a Type 6 to trade not a cutter ... but back to your point of small ships ... I agree there needs to be something exclusive for small ships. In example, Freelancerhad the "Bad Lands" where big ships just could not maneuver because of lots of monolith typeastroids in there. But smaller ships excelled in there in the hands of a good pilot.

Just to clarify (since I think I might have made one of the posts you're thinking of) I don't think they're useless at all, I just can't see any need for any more of them.

With an engineered jump range over 41 Ly, all the things an explorer might need, and the ability to land in places no medium or large ship can, small ships are a thing of beauty.

And I own and have engineered every available ship. Each has its use, and I use each accordingly.

Class 4 fuel scoop. Sorry, I was just sick in my mouth a little. :D I know it's not as bad as the DBX because it's only a 16 ton tank but even so, ewwwww.

When Fuel Scoop Class = Fuel Tank Class, it's not an issue. One does not need a fire hose to fill a shot glass.

And it's as big as it can get for that ship, since the class 5 is restricted.

I've come to a sad conclusion. Fdev don't want us in small ships, they want us to want to grind for big ships, that's why the python is where it is, so even players who want outpost access, have a bigger, more expensive ship to grind towards. Because that's all Fdev wants, people to grind. They think that's how you keep a game profitable, but it's not, and the game will one day die becuase of it, and then another grindfest game will trap their attention for the next few years. It's kind of sad.

Long story short, we don't play for grind, we play for fun, sooner game developers realise this, the better.

It's easier to create grind that it is to create fun. And some players love the grind and will defend the virtue of grind as a kind of virtual work ethic. Well, I already have daily grind for money in real life. Don't need a second job that pays me virtual credits to buy virtual goods. I just want to have a little fun when I'm not grinding in real life.

FAS, FDL, Conda for combat? Come and meet me in my Vulture OP, I'll give you some funny times :D

It's not always about the ship size. A small ship can give you a really hard time if equipped and flown right, and maybe even send you to the rebuy screen :p

I disagree. I own an Anaconda, a Python, a Beluga and an FDL, but I also own a Cobra II, an eagle and a couple of Sidewinders which I put to regular use. These small ships are better suited to certain rolls than the larger ones. I use at least one of then every week.

Agreed.

I'd go further - there should be well-paid missions specifically targetted at small ships - e.g. small-pad-only missions - even where the stations have medium/large pads.

Currently I struggle to justify flying anything other than a Python - and I often find myself 'encouraged' back into it.

Bruh'... I use a size 2 on my Cobra. This whole "must have biggest scoop" mentality is daft.

In the bubble you don't need a scoop at all. If you have cargo racks, you don't need a scoop.

Ain't nobody got time fo' dat. My exploration build scoops are always 1-2 classes larger than the fuel tank.

I just flew "the collection" CG in small ships and got in the top 10%

To be fair, the percentage tier rewards is geared to be appropriate for your class of ship and the expected amounts of Credits per hour of that class of ship.

Why should a Hauler earn millions hauling in a CG over an Anaconda, but you both make the appropriate cr/h for the size of ships you fly.

FDev tried to manage so mission payout are tied to ship capacity / ability, small ships get small payout since the repair/rebuys are small
Large ships require larger amounts of money to fly, rebuy and repair so it makes sense, right?

Needless to say, small ships make for good smuggling, data runners.
Keep the ships lightweight and rigged for speed and you can outrun the big heavy ships who can interdict you, and have a larger jump range, (Outside of the exploration ships).

My adder escaped "The Code" with ease.

After experimenting with the Adder, iCourier, Cobra and AspX for speed vs capacity hauling.
I landed on a heavily modified Cobra, shieldess, weaponless, 60tons and 510m/s in a boost.
Most of the Engineer mods were on a moderate Roll and nothing special. Only the FSD had a Grade5 everything else was grades 2/3/4s
