Why am i buying stuff ?

I remember a time when i'd laugh at mates for buying cosmetics on dota (still laugh). But here i am, i bought 5 weapons colours, 2 paintjobs, 1 cmdr flight suit pack, just now i purchased orange engine colour, i have plans for another flightsuit and paintjob. I don't think these things should need to be payed for yet i'm happy giving frontier my money because they have made such a masterpiece of a game.

Anyone else feel the same ? Or am i just weak minded lol ?

Your cash, your spendings m8 !

I rationalized it a long time ago, pretending it was a way to give FD money so they can keep on working on the game.

But *deep inside* lies the unspeakable truth : I love fluff, I love stuff, I miss the eighties disco colours. And so do you I'm afraid :D

I wasn't around in the 80s lol. But yes, i love buying the stuff on the frontier store, i reckon i have spent about £30 on this game not including the initial £25 xbox game preview and £20 or so for horizons. I'm still intent on spending more (not ridiculous amounts though) , i think i'll be tempted for as long as they keep working on ED, hopefully at least another five years.

It's part of the monies you spend on entertainment. If you're entertained by your purchases then it's monies well spent, which would have gone at most costwise towards some extra coffee or other more temporary forms of gratification anyway.

Enjoy the fact that you have enough expendable income that you can afford to buy dressup goodies for your toy spaceman. I do.

Try laying down some ground rules for yourself (if you want to).

I try to reward good behaviour. Last week I bought a bunch of stuff I mostly can't even use right now (I'm out exploring) to reward FDev for doing something I thought was a step in the right direction. Other times I don't buy stuff because I'm holding out, usually waiting for info.

So justify your spend. It can be as simple as 'finally, engine colours'. I bought the first Anaconda paint job (Gold one IIRC) as an encouragement for them to make more.

I don't tend to buy often, i tend to spend , say, a fiver every few months (my only problem with justification comes when i accidentally by the wrong flight suit pack, then buy the right one, then want a new one lol). But as Tarman said , i guess it's all part of the entertainment. And entertain ED does, that's for sure.

Question answered then, now you know why you buy so much stuff ;)

I always thought it was something I'd never do. I thought it was stupid. Then they swept away some cheated modules and well...I decided they more than earned my support. I'm addicted now. Spent 20USD the first time. Might spend at least that much next time.

lol... same here. Now I'm a believer. Too bad most of the paint jobs are meh but they're on to something with the Pulse styles.

Just bought the engine colors to check out.

Once upon a time this stuff would be part of the game or an added expansion, not the nickle and diming it is now. I don`t have a problem with Capitalism, but i do have a problem with how some companies marketing have gone to a LOT of effort to get into the minds of people in various ways over the years until something that would`ve been once seen as unethical is now embraced with opened wallets. And especially how children have been dragged into it. Gaming companies today has taken advantage of kids in a way that would be seen as borderline criminal anywhere else. At least adults can make a reasoned choice - Children cannot.

i'm shocked i bought the game! this thing is ! seriously! controls are crap, i feel like i flying a bus! its horrendeous! kill this game n give me money back

When I started my second account, yesterday, I swore I wouldn't buy any cosmetics for it...

Not counting the name plate set and ID tag. After all, a ship doesn't look right without its name on it, and they can used for every ship in my future fleet. But that's IT...

Wait, I'm participating in a Buckyball Race. I need to paint my Hauler a sporty red color. But not one more cent...

*reads newsletter*

Darn it!

Gamer: A poor person, who convinces everyone else that spending money how they want is unethical, immoral, and should never be done...until they are not poor...then it's:

Well, you apparently are weak-minded...

but so are the rest of us.

I swore to myself that I was done with the cosmetic items.

I thought the name plates were a joke from day one, but that didn't stop me from buying two of them. For... reasons.

Then I thought...

Wellll, since I'm buying name plates, I might as well pick up a paint job or two.

Oooohhhh...

And red exhaust plumes...

My life won't be complete unless I have red exhaust plumes...

Sigh... [money]
Oh yeah i forgot to mention, i also got the nameplates, and the ship IDs, guess i thought i might as well have the full set. The only things i won't buy are ship kits, not my style, and bobble heads.....but then again, if they somehow decided to release a sci fi themed bobble head pack including James T Kirk TOS, never say never.
