Alien archeology and other mysteries: Thread 10 - The Canonn

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the UP sonogram meant to be the key to understanding the UP transmission?

Don't the numbers in the sonogram correspond to a number in the transmission? And then each quarter of the central part of the sonogram then gives a visual symbol of what the corresponding part of the UP transmission relates to (the planets gravity, etc)? And this is how it was meant to be the key?

Isn't it just that what actually happened is that things worked in reverse and rather than the UP spectrogram being the key to working out the UP transmission, the UP transmission was decided first and that acted as the key to understanding the sonogram?

No, that explanation of the UP sonogram is not satisfying (IMO). It barely works when you know the solution and is not at all obvious if we were meant to work that solution out from the puzzle. Another strike against it is that MB never acknowledged it (he didn't always acknowledge solutions but he often did, e.g. with the UA ship drawings).

I understood it that way too - the coincidences are to high ->
4 "purred" information groups representing Temp, Grav, Radius and Atmospheric composition - 4 symbols on the UP Sono
actually if You look at the drawn one I still think in Group I-- (the two lines) aren´t drawn correctly one line goes to the body, the second one stops shortly before (in original sono) - for me indicating the stuff between the end of lines > Atmosphere
for4 the rest of pictograms i seriously think either the devs mixed up the binaries are the order of chirps in the sound.
Upper left picto should represent temp (Infra-red radiating from the planet) but is marked with -I- = 2 as Temp in the UP Sound is after Purr 1, upper right (picto something pulling to the surface) is marked -II = 3 although Group 2 in sound and finally lower right (Picto clearly shows the radius of the body) has --I = 1 despite Radius is in Purr Group 3....

If your explanation relies on "the devs got something wrong" then there is a high chance that your explanation is incorrect. It's possible - the devs aren't infallible - but Occam's Razor and all that. Especially since I'd expect a mea culpa from the devs if that were the case and they've never said anything.

Miracles happen :) After four days and more then 22 hours UP hunting I went to my least favourite hunting ground KC-U, after 4minutes first spawn -UP !!!
:O
As so many Cdrs report to have gotten their UP´s here and KC-U together with IR-W and RO-Q are the UP systems most near to Merope, maybe *tinfoil*
there is a new probability-factor implemented (dist to merope ????) *tinfoil off*

Thank you for that suggestion! After spending over an hour at Pleiades Sector DL-Y d54 3 without even seeing a USS (despite my newly engineered sensors), and hours at Pleiades Sector QD-T c3-9 1 where I got several USSes but no threat 2s, I decided to try KC-U and got a UP as soon as I got into the planet's SOI.

My thought on this is, let them take it. Unless they wen't through the plain grind it's just going to deteriorate their hull and cause damage so haha on them. :)

Would have been fine, as long as I didn't mess up on the collection. I was able to get another UL and find the site though. Pretty close to where the first sighting of Flowers over Barnis was.

New site: HIP 22118 B 3 A -55.09 // 155.65

Site is ACTIVE.

I don't know if anyone has noted this before, but this site appears to have a working inner door. You come to this door as soon as you enter the main structure (it only has one main entrance, the other one is blocked) and make a left. It opens automatically, just like the main door.

Below is a screenshot, it looks just like the main entrance door but a bit smaller. Don't know if this is something noteworthy.

Hold up folks. For some reason I didn't even notic the Dark Nebula (absorption Nebula) very near where we are working. Dark Nebulae contain things like Oxygen, Formaldehyde, and AMMONIA. so we have this dark Nebula here, the horsehaed dark region is permit locked, there are Barnies near that. Coalsack is a dark Nebula and in the Milky Way we have the Dark Rift (aka Great Rift... 'Fearsome RIFT anyone?) anyone care to look at places near other dark Nebulae to see if there's a connection?

One finding: As Muetdhiver pointed out earlier, there is continued evidence there is a correlation to distance from Merope - perhaps a sphere around it.
Average distance from Merope for active sites: ~115 ly MAX: 148 Standard deviation: 26.5!

I'll be enjoying the great outdoors tomorrow, so next update probably won't be until tomorrow evening. Hope I don't miss any major breakthroughs! o7
