Professor Palin

So, In order to participate in a lot of the alien fun, I need to get a cargo bay that can hold alien stuff (official term) without messing my ship all up.

Obisdian Ant said that Professor Palin is the only person that sells these cargo bays. That was in THIS video (Specifically at 0:47)

He linked THIS website for help with that.

That website says:

  • Discovered: Unlock Marco Qwent (grade 3+),
  • Meeting: Travel 5,000ly from your starting position,
  • Unlocked: Donate 25 units of Unknown Fragments (Anomaly Detected signal sources, which are 150ly+ from Merope)

I have travelled 5200ly from LHS 3447 (just finished this last night), but i am not sure how to unlock Marco Qwent. I am Rank 3+ with Elivia Martuuk, which i learned was a pre-req from THIS video.

I am saving all the Discovery Scan data I have to try to quick rank with Sirius Corp. as i heard that was a good idea for getting a sirius permit.. But I have no idea where to do that at.

I just need help trying to put the checklist of what i am missing together from all the pieces i have.

Thanks!

UPDATE----------------------------------------------

I am Done!

This Video was by far the biggest help.

The longest part was going 5000ly and back. After that, it was a breeze. I gave all my discovery data to Sirius Corp which got me to allied quickly and earned me 10million credits!

Get allied with Sirius corp. Sothis/CEOs or AVIK I think, right near SOL. Then you'll get the Sirius permit and then just dock at a station in Sirius and you will get the invite for marco

You're in for a Long journey my friend. You still have the Modulat Terminal (Marco) and Unknown Fragment (Palin) grinds ahead of you. Stay tough and Keep cool. And stock up on biscuits :)

The UF part isn't bad now with the static crash site that always has UA's around it. I had to do it the hard way, and it was awful.

Modular Terminals, on the other hand..... I'm sorry, and good luck.

If you ask around on the forums for Modular Terminals (AFTER you have access to Sirius and Qwent), someone is likely to help. :D
I tend to hold on to any I find for a week or so. If no one wants them, I sell them.

UFs are actually really easy now. You just need to head to that alien/Anaconda wreck site near Maia(you'll need to Google the details), shoot the UAs there from your SRV. Collect the UFs they drop, relog, do it again until you have 25.

Any chance you have a link to that "long journey"? That is my question. I really don't have a "do this, do this, do this" list. I am good with the grind, just want to know the steps I need to take.

If all you want are the resistant racks you don't need to do the UF step yet as far as I know - you need to get access to Marco Qwent, which can be a bit of a drag, but then if you already have the 5000Ly under your belt, level 3+ with him is enough to get you the invite to Palin's base where you can buy the racks. You only need the UFs if you want Palin to do any engineering for you, at least this is what I am led to believe - will be able to confirm this evening as I am just on the last leg of my 10,000 Ly trip out of the bubble :)

As for modular terminals - keep an eye on the mission boards while getting allied to Sirius, or have a look at Niu Hsing (?) - if it's in boom I picked up a load there running simple missions to the system next door, helps your Fed rank a load as well.

If you really can't be bothered with finding all the Modular Terminals, you could always see if the nice folks at East India Company (EIC) have stock available when you need it
I spent a good month (in-between CGs & regular missions) looking for MTs and only found 4 before I cracked and used their service.

As some else said above, you can now easily find Unknown Fragments the crash site (HIP 17862¦6 C A : 30.32 -98.58), I found 3 UAs each time and every UA dropped 3 UF when shot, re-log a few times and bingo!
Admittedly I already had sufficient materials to quickly rank up with Qwent, as well as Palin's other prerequisites, but from the moment I delivered the MTs to Qwent to getting a corrosion resistant cargo rack from Palin was about 45mins

Unlocking Marco isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be - yes, you need to reach Allied status with Sirius, which can be done in a number of ways. I found bounty hunting in Avik to be the easiest. Just rack up around 2m in bounties at the nav beacon, and they'll like you just fine.
Modular terminals also aren't so bad - it means doing a few missions - 7 to be exact, just pick ones that award Modular Terminals and you're good to go.

Finding Unknown Fragments is also not so bad - shoot a few Unknown Artifacts and pick up the pieces. UA's aren't that hard to come by - I got mine all from Anomalies/USS in one of the HIP systems, though I don't recall the number. Just had to fly around for a little bit, and find them.

Don't worry commander, you'll get it!

Interesting, it sounds entirely plausible that you don't actually need to unlock Palin to buy the racks...I've never tried looking at the outfitting screen before unlocking an engineer.
I'm curious as to how this pans out for you, I'll await your report o7

OK. So do you happen to know how i unlock Marco Qwent? I have read that I need an invite from Sirius Corp AND Elvira Rank 3+. I am at Grade 3+ with Elivira. So I just need to do missions for Sirius Corp to get an invite?

Edit: Found this video. Seems Pretty good. Walks thru Martuuk, Qwent and Palin. Does it still seem legit to everyone?

IIRC, rank 3-4 with Elvira gets you the initial introduction and the invitation from Sirius Corp is only available from a station within the Sirius system itself.

Neither of those are particularly problematic, the Alien Crash site yields Unknown Fragments aplenty either by shooting the Unknown Artefacts and collecting the fragments or by picking the few existing ones up. You can get all 25 required in one visit without having to re-log.

Modular Terminals can easily be found at High Grade Emission USS found in high population, outbreak, independent systems between 600-1000ly out in deep space. I spent about an hour flying backwards and forwards in this area at 0.5c and got more than I need This article was very useful here.

What really takes time are the Cracked Industrial Firmware for the grade 5 rolls, but the OP isn't after those just yet.

Modular Terminals

... are a mission reward only, and a commodity. never heard of someone finding them in a USS, and never seen one in a USS - nothing is impossible, but are you sure you are not mixing up modular terminals with something else? pharmaceutical isolators for exampel?
