Exploration - why the Anaconda?

Did you do the whole "Jump of no return" thing? I watch a lot of vids on it, thought thay was amazing and well organised too o7
I did. It was. There's now a tourist memorial there.

The galaxy looks very bright, at that distance...

This all comes down to two types of explorers: one are interested "only" in going further deep into the black, up and down the galaxy. Claiming the virgin systems, black holes and such. The other type likes to stay in the system and land on new planets.

To each it's own.

If your aim is the range (and bear in mind, on the fringes the systems are sparse, 60-70 LY apart) it's Conda. If you prefer landings too, than anything will do.

That's half true, I've been to very sparse areas (Semotus Beacon & Amundsens Star) in my 57 ly Asp and I been able to fly well in them though I do understand that for up and down system records it's harder and in some cases the Anaconda is the law.

I also saw someone say the DBX had the greatest range too, but no seen anything to support it. Being in the 72ly club I would love to see some screenies of a DBX to see how it stacks up.

I have both the Anaconda and AspX.
If I am going deep into the black for a while, I will take the AspX for the amazing views, the maneuverability, and the cost of repair when I get back!

If I am going to a distant place where there other commanders (e.g. Alien Ruins), I'll take the Anaconda because I'm a show-off :D

I also have two exploration vessels, ASP and the Conda, but I tend to use the big one more often. I can have same or greater jump range plu have SLF, bigger SRV hangar and some repair modules. Also, I just love the Conda.

Various Reasons. Better Jump Range, Better Utilities, Better Defense's for a explorer vessel. I remember a while back Brookes and even Wagar were like "You should explore armed" well I took that to heart and have a decently shielded Anaconda that has 7 guns on it. And I still can jump over 50ly.

Only downside to the Conda is the cockpit view and its bad turning radius in Supercruise. Turning radius really does get on my nerves but I've learned to deal with it, as for the Cockpit view. Well that's what Control+Alt+Space is for.

If you enjoy landing on planets, might be better to stick with asp aswell, much easier to avoid crashing on high G planets with an asp then an anaconda.

I wanted to avoid the Anaconda with its cheat light hull too, but at the end it is dripping with character (something the Asp utterly lacks IMHO, therefore I'll never own one) while being practical too. I havent gone exploring with it yet, but I'm looking forward to it!

In any case, buy all kinds of modules for various roles, and once your are out at Colonia, you can have them delivered to the arguably best all-rounder ship you can get - remember, out there you have limited options! Also, I always take different ships, because variety is good. :)

I always fly the annie because

-Love the shape of the ship
-Love big ships
-2 SRVs
-1 SLF
-61ly jump range on my current build
-Two AMFUs (although never needed them other than neutron surfing)
-Fuel transfer + cargo bay
-7A fuel scoop
-Ok shields
-Still got room for both scanners and docking computer

Dat 7A fuel scoop - oh hell yeah... mmmm... this is adult refuelling, not suitable for children! Seriously, thats a good reason to explore with Conda, you just pass the star full throttle and boom - fuel tank full!

Honestly, I wouldn't recommend the Annie. The main reason is supercruise. Scanning in supercruise takes so long, because it turns like a car with no wheels, no steering wheel and no engine.

I love my Annie

The Conda is the better explorer "on paper". The Asp's cockpit gives a much better view though IMHO.

The ASP canopy looks like from forklift.
I like conda, but in light build is paper, slow, and not agile. If build is not paper then it is pretty durable, but not much better than ASP in fact.
Personally i am using Orca now. Fast, agile and good jump. And ofcourse luxury.

IMO the Anaconda is useful in very long voyages of exploration because of the number of module slots it has available for extra exploration capability (such as SRV and SLF), more scanners and self-repair ability (redundant AFMS) and also for its ability to jump decent distances even with a large power plant, heavy shields and weapons while carrying a bunch of cargo. It is also not lugging around all the extra armor a ship like, say, a Corvette is hauling around. o7

SOME BRILLIANT REPLIES THANKS! I've just engineered the conda to 50 LY and I'm on my way to Colonia with it. I'll decide when I get back if I re-convert it back into a battleship or keep it as an explorer. I have retained decent Power Dist so I can boost, and low value shields. Couldn't find anywhere selling a disco though. ;)

I decided to go with the mini bar and hot tub
Good luck CMDR, and fly safe. o7

I do exactly the same thing with a 7B scoop. 69m credits cheaper.
