Dark side of planets

it is fairly common knowledge that when you get close to the dark side of a moon it eventually brightens up. I was wondering how many people want to get rid of this and just have completely pitch back, how many think it should be an option to turn on in the settings and how many people think it should stay as it is. I would do a poll but I don't know how so please just comment instead

I tell myself my eyes get used to the dark, after the effect kicks in.
I know I'm easily amused, but it would - up to some degree - work IRL this way as well.

Go to a moon or planet during an eclipse to see what really darkness is like (it will be pitch black), then think again :)

I have been under an eclipse in game, its awesome.

Vandaahl, how is it not realistic?

Not pitch black, but black depending on the ambient light of the galaxy.

I would say, pitch black until you get near the centre and then it gradually changes. you don't want to have to travel really far to drive in the dark

Not sure what you mean, but during an eclipse the affected area is pitch black. Or at least it was when I was on 'New Moon' during one, a couple of releases back.

*edit*
I get you :)
Indeed, it should never be pitch black, I agree. Hence my reference to the eclipse situation, in which it is way to dark for my liking.

An eclipse should block the light from the sun, not the light from the stars in the galaxy.

I've not seen a working eclipse in game, so wouldn't know about that.

It's defo too light at times, although I'm certain it's not a 100% effect is it? I'm certain I've been to properly dark dark sides recently (memory could be playing tricks). But I'm actually in two minds. Aircraft even now have night vision goggles and displays, and doesn't the game adjust lighting with regards to the suns anyway, how is that explained in game (I've read it somewhere I think). If the game can adjust light to avoid us being blinded by the close proximity of a ball of nuclear explosions, why not the dark side of planets/moons?

nono wait...

i remember this artficicial light but months ago...now when i'm land on dark sitde of the planet...there isn't artificial brightness...

i saw this last night when i land on a planet station... i could see only the station lights...
I saw this yesterday when i search the material to ORRERE 2B... no light... only my ship and SRV light... and found the crash site was very difficult but good..

or it's my new OLED ? :D

maybe, upgrade ship lights or implement a light signal launch from ships can be a good thing...
