Is Multi Crew Dead unless with Friends or Clan?

Title says it all. Tried searching for random multi crew peeps today, all nothing. I am on Mobius PVE tho....do I need to be in open for more people? Will solo work?

Depends on many factors, but generally with multi crew, because of some bad apples that jumped around and harmed people rather then helped, people have gone to invite only rather then fully open.
 
Multicrew is one of those "fun but functionally useless" aspects of the game. Personally I love it, but I always recommend people in my group to form a wing instead. We only do Multicrew just for kicks, and lately not even then because it's still so buggy it can break future wing attempts after a MC session fails.

It's a great concept but it needs expansion, engineers seat, science seat, defense/tactical seat, allowing NPCs to fly the main ship in MC, and in Solo when a player just wants to do turrets. But most of all, it needs to be made more more stable and less easily broken with instancing/dropping/connection issues.
 
Hey FD, what about devoting an entire expansion to a multi-crew CQC arena next ? Just to be sure no one likes / uses it ? :D

I might consider mc if there was an actual point to it, but it doesn't and I don't. It was dead on arrival after they made the comment about not developing it unless it was used...sorry if anyone disagrees, but in my opinion, that was the last chance it had and frontier themselves killed it. How can one have any faith in a feature if it's clear they don't themselves? That's what their statement did and continues to do ^

Idk, Multicrew CQC arena with Big Ship vs Big Ship in a star trek style combat arena would be kinda awesome. I would personally be thrilled by the prospect. Maybe if they got it right for CQC, they could port those changes over to the main game?

Really?? Horizons is necessary for multi-crew?

Yes as it's part of the whole Horizons package, feel sorry for the Mac guys as they sort of got shafted by FD, here's a great game thx for your X amount but that's your lot..base game only. Saying that now they have the PS version out of the way they might go back and give them it.

Isnt it because the mac shaders thing?? Fdev havent shafted Mac its software/hardware stuff. Although they should have multicrew just out of good will from fdev
 
I did some multicrew RESing in my Corvette, had a friend man turrets I installed and take out a fighter. Me in the Vette, friend + AI in the fighter was an absolute blast. We were unstoppable.

Leery of taking in strangers, given the people bragging about using it to shoot cops and fry your ship with SCB's and all that, and not bothered to try it with the new controls for those actions.

I generally don't mount turrets, so opening for multicrew seems pointless unless I have a fighter bay and am actively grinding kills in a CZ or RES. Multicrew needs an engaging job outside of active combat.

To be perfectly honest, you're right, the potential is BIG.
But I suspect this is not what the player base of this very game needs / wants. And according to CQC and MC results, honestly, I don't think I'm wrong.
 
Except you don't need any of that to be unstoppable in the game.

Which is why some people see no point in the hassle.

And as long as fdev insists on allowing tiny ships even have a chance at fighting ships dozens of times larger with many times the fire power and defense, the notion of large ship to ship battles like you would need to make decent use of multi crew won't happen.

Their own game mechanics make multi crew a novelty at best

Fdev didn't shaft Mac users. Apple did. Their graphics drivers are so far behind it makes open source Linux drivers look state of the art.

As it stands, Linux has much better and up to date support to play this game now than Apple has provided.

Fdev has no say in any of that. Apple just hasn't cared about gaming. Complain to them.

If they have star trek style, bridge vs bridge combat and it was part of the actual game (like CQC should have been, and still could be) then I suspect people would eat it up with a spoon. I mean just look at the recent Star Trek game. People love that kind of thing. Maybe it's still possible if/when they implement playable capital ships?

so, how do you bind in such a bridge sim into an open world persistant universe?
the very reason why all our current ships are more or less "fighter" crafts of different sizes - is due to the solo-playability.

if they implement "command" based ships - they need to implement command-able bots for each bridge role too, or else those ships are unplayable when your crew is not online.

I would *love* something of that depth. I'm not sure that's possible with Elite, though, simply because it hasn't been developed from the ground up around that concept. However, I do agree that multi-crew should be greatly expanded upon with new and more engaging roles.

It's fun already, but it could be so much more with a bit more effort. :)
 
I've been doing it the last few evenings just to relieve the monotony of the combat rank grind (I'm 46% Deadly). Usually, I can find crew, although sometimes there's a bit of a wait.
 
Dont know never tryed MC. Basicly i would only use the tiny fighter when im crew, but from my exp in CQC i wont live long in that vessel.
Gunner seems pretty much boring atm.

CQC is not dead, i can play it on fridays, saturdays and sometimes sundays at around 8pm european time. Takes like 5 mins to find a game thought.
Actually CQC is not even for everyone, some weapons you get later with exp are much better thenn the starter stuff.
Also i find CQC is slow, a lot ppl fly slow and pick on others that are busy or just kill steal.
Ppl that use flight assist off have an advantage over thouse that use flight assist. I use a gamepad and maybe using mouse or hotas could be also better.
On a side note i also often find boosting away and try to turn behind things does not work well. Most of the time you get shot up anyway.
