Free The Cobra MKIV

I think FD shot itself in the foot by making certain items a one-time exclusive only.
It was an incentive to buy / pre-order Horizons. You can't just go back and make them available for free.
It would set a precedent. However I sympathise with players who joined later and feel like they are missing out.

As was pointed out earlier, FD could make all exclusive content available in the store.
I would be fine with that, can't speak for others.

I have access to the viper mk IV, and I would gladly trade that access for the cobra IV, I could do so much more with a cobra IV. Pity I can't trade one in for the other.

Ah the good old MkIV debate...

I'd be happy if they put the MkIV on sale for a limited time - the same could happen for other new ships too. Good way to generate cash flow. Or perhaps even release the Cobra MkV for shop sale only so as to not disgruntle those of us who got the IV as part of Horizons - Make it a little better, almost half way between the III and IV and I'd certainly buy that for my alt account.

I Fdev did release the IV for everyone, then the point it is an exclusive for pre-orders, will put some off pre ordering season 3 if it seems that there is really no incentive to pre order as the exclusive content will be given to all 2 yrs later.

Keep it exclusive and don't back track and keep working on the game.

I certainly do not want FDev to go down the micro transaction ships like STO do. Don't become a generic MMO thats pay to win. Cosmetics are fine it gives no one an advantage and just allows those that want to personalise the ability to do so.

It should have been the mrkI or mrkII as exclusive really. Would have more sense for the last relics to be snapped up.

But rather than freeing the IV, they should just get the V out of development for everybody. Faulcon DeLacy are relying on old trusted designs too much with others taking the lead.

Goddamn, would you people just let the damn thing die?

Its not that great, its a niche ship that really doesn't last and no reason to want it - to add to the fact it was marketed as EXCLUSIVE as I recall.

Although I like the idea of it being a Mk I or II instead, but this is FDev we are talking about, if it makes sense they don't do it.

I'd be happy paying $ for the MK IV to gain access as long as the price was reasonable, although it would definitely be a bit of a worry seeing FD start to go down the path of selling ships for money, that sort of thing might well lead to very dark places. Somebody several pages back suggested store credit as compensation for the 'exclusive' players who currently have access and I think that would work a lot better as a far less scary solution.

But lets face it, no matter how they do it and how generous they are, they'll always cop a certain degree of flak from a select few. Whether FD wants to face the inevitable backlash is anybody's guess, I wouldn't blame them if they decided the whole thing just wasn't worth the pain.

I have access to the MK IV but I couldn't care less about exclusivity, I wouldn't mind at all if FD gave everybody access to this ship. It's not like anything would be taken away from any player, and it wouldn't mess up balance / pvp / anything at all either.

Anybody can come and say "I have Mk IV but couldn't care less about exclusivity".

Well I DO HAVE a Mk IV and i care.

Trade you a viper mk IV for the cobra IV?

Would making it a frontier store purchase make it tolerable for you? I like the idea of the cobra IV. There are a lot of roles where it is superior to the Mk III. I would like to have one, but I missed the window by a day. Or are you merely interested in having it because others don't and you want to screw them out of possible enjoyment, even if they pay frontier for it?

Just as offering the Mk IV wouldn't upset the balance between ships, keeping it exclusive does no damage to the same balance. The hurdle of it's included exclusivity is a problem. There would be just as many who claim that aspect of their deal, as there would those that renounce it. As in most things, doing nothing is the most prudent course.

Soooo, we got nothing then. Why do you hate fuzzy dice? ;)

You got fuzzy dice....? I'll trade them for my Cobra Mk IV.

To be honest, I just don't see why they would have considered giving a ship away as an exclusive gift a good idea. It could only end in disappointment...

1) the ship is great. those who can never have it are forever disappointed
2) The ship is complete shiite: Those who got it are forever disappointed.

It's like those old 80's Timotei adverts on TV that showed nothing more than a sideboob or two. They were a compromise pleased absolutely no-one in the end

No. Simply no. By doing so FD would lose all credibility they (might still*) have in being able to fulfill a contract they offered.
If FD offers the Cobra Mk IV in their store, then they tell every customer never to buy a pre-order pack or anything form FD at normal price.

Offering a ship as an exclusive part of a contract was a bad idea, but they have to keep their part of the contract. Just like any customer who agreed to that contract by giving FD money has to keep their part.

*) they made quite a few really bad decisions along the way after releasing Horizons. Highlight would be reducing the price a few weeks after the initial release and "compensating" their customers by giving them some paint jobs instead of giving them the money back.

My thoughts exactly... They made their bed, they gotta lay in it.

So you dont think that say $20 of store credit given to all current MK IV owners would be sufficient compensation for freeing it up for the masses? Considering how horrible the MK IV is, a lot of people might find the idea of $20 of paint jobs, ship kits and colored lasers to be quite an attractive compromise to fix what most people - including yourself - view as a bad decision on their part.

If you want access to a small pad Python, why not just get a Python? The Cobra IV is redundant at best.

For the purpose of the ship, I could see it being very desirable for those among us who do not have 56 million credits to purchase a Python let alone the 200 million + to properly outfit one.

To fully A rate the Mk IV costs roughly 10-12 million making it the cheapest small ship with as many optional internals as it has that players can have access to. I could see it being a great intermediate ship for those who don't want to be locked to a specific roll while they're earning they way to another vessel.

I own a Mk IV but do not ever fly it, by the time I had access to this ship I was already flying around in an Imperial Cutter, but I do see the value of the ship. No question there. I would be perfectly fine if they allowed everyone to purchase the Cobra Mk IV.

Off topic, anyone else hoping they add more versions of ships we have already? Python or Anaconda Mk II, hell a Vulture Mk II. Always found it strange for a game this size and scope that we only have 1 version of many ships, modular customization aside.

No. He said, and I quote, "Offering a ship as an exclusive part of a contract was a bad idea"

Which I happen to agree with as a Mk IV owner.
I'm just bitter because I know that because it was a limited ship they had to purposefully nerf it hard to make sure there were no P2W squeals of rage.

The Mk IV should have been a more expensive and BETTER ship than the Mk III...

And we are back: it's about exclusivity.

exclusive - adjective

uk /ɪkˈskluː.sɪv/ us /ɪkˈskluː.sɪv/

exclusive adjective (ONLY FOR SOME)

C1 limited to only one person or group of people:

There was a time period when you could do it. It passed, sorry. No Mk IV for you ("ever again, forever" Braben and Zac). That's what exlusive means, not 20 bucks later.

Actually I'd like to see the Cobra MK 2 instead. It's more roundish in shape. I've never even seen the wireframe version of it flying around back in the old Elite, but it's listed in various sources.
