Engineers modified consumer firmware extremely rare?

Have done the mode switching to no end looking for this, in various systems, got 5 in total over like 10hrs of gameplay, that's 3 evenings for me.
Will try another approach today.

Step one:
get nimble DB Scout: https://coriolis.io/outfit/diamondback/2pataFal5das5f47i7i2e2e00030404B42tv62f.AwRj4yKA.MwBj5AmbpBGBAWRIg===?bn=Pl.%20Missions

Step two:
look for a system with many planetary settlements (favouring small / low sec) and scan data points.

Let's see if that could be faster (or less boring) than shuffling the board...

That is exactly what i do all the time, but with no success.
For some reason, i get all sorts of stuff, but not what i need.

Well i will continue with my travels in search for those extremely rare Materials, but i cannot say that i have fun doing it.
FD: please reconsider your approach to 'Engineers'... At least a little bit.

Agreed - hope they reconsider alot of "Engineers". Would be nice if they let us transfer materials to others like cargo. Seems the folks I play with get the stuff I need and I get the stuff they need. I get missions with modified consumer firmware as rewards all the time in Kamadhenu at Sanjin and Couper - almost daily. Probably because I don't have any recipes pinned for them lol. I would happily trade you some for 2 Cadmium.

Pretty sure FD was all like 'We worked many months on this one. How the heck do we ensure that they won't all be flying around in max-pimped ships in like a week(and be like: wut, that's it?)? Ideas, anyone?'

[big grin]

After two week I came to the conclusion that they simply doesnt exist in the game.

Checked on missions, planetary facilities, ship wrecks, signal sources, everything. Lots of time burned for this. With the current state of the game mechanics I am not even able to get Level 1 upgrades. So the engineers update is in fact useless. The engineers are useless and the AI is too tough. Even when the long time Elite Dangerous players have a problem finding all the stuff guess how frustrating it is for the casual gamers...

Guys there's no point in just throwing around station names when referring to a mission reward.

System:
Station name:
Station economy:
Station state:

I've got several from missions and not even looking for it.

Best to have several recipes you are looking for and just fly about doing missions with a big shopping list. I always take missions with rare or very rares as rewards.

You could just spend 2 seconds on EDDB:
System: Kamadhenu
Stations: Couper Hub; Shajin Market
Economy: Industrial; Agriculture
State: Boom; None

I have performed several upgrades for some of my ships and many of them were level 3 and one was level 4.
I barely had difficulty finding the materials needed, but now that I have started to upgrade the lasers, i am faced with the problem to find this modified consumer firmware.

I followed the description of the material and sought in USS at the data points of shipwrecks,
but they threw off everything except the firmware. Although it was also different firmware here, but not the right one.
I can not imagine that others have the same problems to upgrade their energy weapons, particularly since this is a material which is meant to be widespread, according to the description.
Am I doing something wrong or I'm looking in the wrong places?
I have also tried to find this elusive firmware on POI data points on the surface of planets and in those Datapoints on Settlements...

...So far without success.

I have got the stuff only two times as a mission reward at Jameson Memorial, but never again ...
It is certainly not the point of the game sitting on a station and to renew the Mission Board 1000 times just to get to a mission that perhaps rewards one of those Things, and then you need it for just about any upgrade that has something to do with energy weapons and not only them?

Can someone please help here?I'm beginning to despair... :(

(Written with the help of Google translator, my native language is german)
medium and high security bases seem to be best places?

They could slow the pace down without frustrating the players by making a few of the components ludicrously rare/time consuming. Even the unlock objectives slow most people down in some cases.

How? the only weird things in my book are those wanting rare goods in quite large amounts, rest seem easy enough.

And by the way people generally talk about the topic it seems like many want to "unlock, land, gimme your best stuff, leave" though I could be wrong.

Because we all know EDDB has been so accurate since 2.1 right.
Anyhow, I'm just saying if you provide information... Provide information. Don't throw pointers. Especially when their accuracy is questionable.

There are 3 type of objectives currently to unlock, irrelevant (farseer, dweller etc) irritating (anyone who wants rares) and the ones with a relatively normal progression path like 25 modular terminal man or go get some UA's. Many of the objectives are obviously designed to get the players to go do something they may not have done before, I've never done anything with a UA, modular terminals can be gathered at a reasonable rate from any kind of mission if you check as you play the game etc.

In principle Farseer should have been in the last group, but the fact they bugged meta alloys and didn't fix them meant it just turned into a courier mission which is pretty much pointless.

As to unlock land give me your best stuff I can only say that FD encouraged that by putting many of the Tier 5 engineers straight away, which both means later ones are devalued and everyone got to what they wanted in many cases straight away, without any sort of linear progression. Ideally it would have worked like this

General tier 3 > semi-specialized tier 4 > specialized tier 5 with unlock requirements associated with the engineers personally craft method/specialty, they also could have spaced the mods out so there was a Tier 5 clean thrusters guy, and a Tier 5 dirty thrusters engi for example which would allow everyone to have 5 tiers of scaling. Instead we have Tier 5 > tier 3 > tier 4 > not released, which is literally the worst way I can think of doing it.

ive got modified consumer, cracked industrial, specialized legacy, modified embeded...

it was there for ME, and I am not RNG God, so maybe they will not be there for You. Just tried to help/motivate..

although I do not care currently for Engineers (not primary interest), I have enough other activities in this game..

Just picked up four missions with Modified Consumer Firmware as reward in a system with civil war state within 20 minutes and a few relogs. So it appears the election/civil war state does help.

Cheers,
Wolfie.

I'm having a huge problem finding these. I had 4 (somehow) when I started to go looking for them: I dropped in on dozens of Encoded Emissions Signal Sources, looked for them as mission rewards and I've scanned the Data Points of around 20 small and large settlements of both low and medium security, and so far I've found 0. None.

EDIT
After posting this, I went to 2 small, low sec settlements and found an MCF at both. I guess I was just unlucky at the other 2 or 3 I tried previously. Just FYI. ;)

Can also confirm, picked up two missions for Modified Consumer Firmware from systems in Election state after hours of looking elsewhere

Cheers Wolfie!
