Engineers Engineering Grade 5 FSD can't slide to the left optimized mass? Image attached

What, couldn't decipher that ambiguous information from the convoluted UI?

Yeah, that really needs some work. The one key metric the OP was after, increased jump range, is the one item of information he cannot see on the page. It needs a 'jump range before' and 'jump range after' underneath. It's like going to a car tuner to say 'make my 0-60 time faster' and he says he's added 10% more torque, lost power as a result by 5% and added 3% more mass. It's answering the wrong question.

While we know increased optimised mass is good, the link is not intuitive nor easy to understand. Likewise the roll being 'good' or not is not easy to understand.

And don't get me started on the RNG side of it all.

so then I"m not even close to maxed ! Why did someone say my optimal mass was basically the best it can be?

Because you got 2638.95 t out of 2700 t max. optimal mass referring to the normal range of results without a positive sideeffect... And that's pretty close to "Maxed" imho...

Edit: P.S.: btw Is it possible you mixed up mass and optimal mass there ?

I've added some notes to your screenshot. Maybe this will help...

If you've applied the Modification that's in the screenshot (which looks pretty good), then there isn't much room for further improvement on future attempts. Your Optimised Mass is at 2638 with the max possible being 2700. Having said that, if you have spare materials you could give it a go on the off-chance of getting it a little bit higher. Just discard the results if it doesn't improve.

First of all, thank you so much for taking the time to do this. Now I'll make you laugh. When you said this ... "If you've applied the Modification that's in the screenshot (which looks pretty good), then there isn't much room for further improvement on future attempts" I couldnt help but crack up.

Not realizing the colors or way to view this (due to my custom UI) I discarded that roll and as this thread went on realized....jesus, I probably had the best shot of getting what I want right in front of me and threw it away. I have mats for 16 more rolls now. Jaaizus. 2 Darned Funny

Ok fellas, Rolled 10 x out of my 16 available or so. How did I do? Seems like I went a bit OVER the maximum. Did I get lucky?

Yeah, that's a weirdly typical roll. Really good on the bit want, really bad on the things you don't. Fortunately most of the time the bad is acceptable for the good.

True, he could get lucky, but it's probably as good as it's going to get without a huge bucketful of materials and lots of time on his hands :D

Yes, this! I'll stop here. And move on to the other engineers or upgrades.

Can anyone Share their thoughts about my bad side effects?

I can't even see the pic because I'm at work and most image hosting sites are blocked but I don't need to - all of the 'bad' effects of a grade 5 FSD range enhance are trivial compared to the benefit of the main optimised mass roll. The only one that could ever really be a concern would be a huge drop in heat efficiency and even then only on a ship which was such an edge case prior to modification that it was about to burst into flames every time you fuel scooped. Your roll for optimised mass is sweet, you're going to have a nice jump range. Rejoice and enjoy it. :D

So basically 50%. That's definitely a good outcome from 10 rolls.

Anything above that will come from a lucky SECONDARY effect. That is the way you can get the +50% over spec FSDs that can under rare circumstances flirt with a +60% over the usual max.

When going for that level of performance, it is best to not attempt it unless you can afford MULTIPLE stock FSD drives and ship them to the Engineer for swapping in and out.

This way you don't loose any high level rolls trying for something better. :)

Indeed, this is advice which can't be stressed enough to anybody getting into engineering.

250 FSD rolls while working on my exploration Orca got me enough 50%+ FSDs for every ship I own which takes a class 5.

Same here! :D

I did the same with 6As as well. Only reason my Corvette can hit the 30Ly mark! ;)

Ditto

Anything over 50% is a keeper. The highest I've seen reported is 57

I have several on the 50 - 55 range and one 5A that has 56% - that's my best out of several hundred rolls.

just curious, can this FSD I just decked out be swapped back and forth in like ....an asp or aspx? )not sure what the diff is with an aspx anyway but...can I do this easily?
