Trade community goals and PVP: The art of blockade running.

I'm baffled no one has linked Rinzler's excellent guide on this yet.

[REDACTED]

Too much swearing and way too sarcastic for my taste. Got a few minutes in to the video and turned it off. The snide remarks and excessive sarcasm and the general you traders don't know what you're doing attitude was too much.

The ironic thing is, there IS a lot of useful advice in that video but most of it isn't what the video focuses on.

If you're the sort of person who doesn't already know this stuff and you're buying a T7, it's probably because you're fairly new and you've just scraped together enough credits for your first big ship.
Which means you're probably not going to have Cr50m lying around to upgrade it.
That being the case, you're probably going to prefer to just fly it in Solo rather than risking it in Open.

Conversely, if you're the sort of person who's cool with risking a T7 in Open, and has the credits to upgrade it, you're probably going to have a fair idea what you're doing.

Having said that, the actual in-flight advice he offers about how to defend yourself and how to escape is pretty good information. [up]

In general, though, it's a bit like:-
"How do I fit a sofa into the back of a VW Golf?"
"Well, you start by replacing the VW Golf with a Toyota land Cruiser....."

Would like to suggest adding:

8) Timing.

AVOID popular times. e.g. USA and UK evenings.

Most of blockades and pirates are not going to be there 24/7 (Unless they have NO life).

Good luck getting in top 10% with Cobra...

The cobra is my personal pick for this build, and the main reason is that I enjoy flying it.
Sure, if you are skilled enough to sneak your type 9 through a blockade of highly engineered commanders, good for you! I would expect that this guide will appeal to less experienced commanders.

Anyway, not everything is about getting to the top 10% in a CG. Personally I participate in CG that I find appealing, either for the objective, the challenge or the story behind it.

I did, it got removed for some strange reason.

Not really surprised, although I didn't ask it to be removed. It did sound kind rude that you posted that video the second post, if I recall correctly, with almost no reason for it. It looked like "Hey mate, you are late". I know it probably wasn't your intention, but it is what it looked like :).

That's an option, but not exactly the topic of this thread ;)

Blockade running in Open Mode can be fun. It's certainly not fun for everybody, but for those who want to do this advice from other players and insights form the other side of the blockade is always interesting and useful in my opinion.

A blockade would be fun when its effective for all players AND the opposite site has a chance to counter it. In our game - sadly - its impossible. If I don´t want to get blocked -> Solo cya. And there´s nothing you can do about it.

@Mods: I know -> Hotel California :)

...denigrate and insult other players for having a different idea of what constitutes 'fun'.

And no-one here was complaining about pirates/gankers and breaking their keyboards, so I'm not sure why you posted they were.

I never insulted anyone. I said; I don't understand why you would rather break your keyboard or complain on the forums about losing your expensive ship when you could have done something to prevent it.

You can have a different opinion if you wish to do so but that doesn't change the fact that there's plenty of ways to prevent these thing's from happening.

You don't have many options, get better at the game or comply. They've done enough fixes and changes to the game to allow you to survive these encounters. There's also videos that will teach you how to survive in about any ship from pirate attacks.

So that's why I am saying you don't have much of an excuse to cry about pirates considering it's one of most neglected activity in the game.

You would seem to be lecturing to a demographic of people who you've made up in your own head.

2) AVOIDING AND INTERDICTION

Well commander, you are about to jump to the destination system. This is your checklist:
  1. Plot a route making your destiny part of it. This will allow you to easily select a new system if you need to jump away from destruction.

I am missing something here. How do you go about making your destination only part of your route?

Nice post but don't associate pirates with murders. People killing outside a station are not pirates. People who open fire with a word are also not pirates.

A simple way is to get to a nearby system and make an economic route to the system just after your destination. So, if I'm in A and going to B, I'll make a route to C, so my final route in the map will be A -> B -> C.

That way, when you are in B you only need to select the next system in the route with a single hotkey.

Call them terrorists then.

Nice post but don't associate pirates with murders. …

For someone not willing to give pirates cargo it's the same. Pirates are murderers. Every pirate I've ever met in ED tried to kill me. Even the nice ones who asked and repeated their request.
Something about "cargo or life".
They are murderers. Lying to themselves that they aren't. Trying to put the blame on those they murder. Claiming they where forced to kill, but they never choose not to.
They don't have to kill if they don't want to.
They just never decide not to kill.

From the other side of the guns there is no difference between a pirate and any other murderer. The differentiation between pirate and murderer is something that is only important for the pirate - and I guess for those who are willing to give the pirate some cargo (but doesn't that turn the pirate into a beggar?).

You realise that you're posting in a thread dedicated to teaching/learning the techniques needed to survive, right? Nobody is complaining about pirates here, and there's certainly been no mention of breaking keyboards.

It's like you read a different OP than everybody else did.
