Star Citizen Thread v6

Oh dear, it looks like Roberts bought Shadow of Mordor in the Steam summer sale. So that's how they're going to shift focus away from everything else they've failed to deliver; look foward to Gamescom and Citizen presentations about this amazing nemesis adversary/scourge/rival/<insert synonym for nemesis> system they've invented which will revolutionise gaming as we know it, which will surely be in 4.0, by the end of the year.

I love how we are at a "lost-in-translation" status once again. Remember the PaxEast 2016 Gamestar interview "SQ42 not for 2016" drama?

Haha! turned out the translation wasn't that lost, and SQ42 wasn't shown and still is a no-show... Can't wait to see how the mess will turn out this year ^^
Please standby, we're refracturing the translation, now over to you Genuine CR

Guys. We don't need us to convince that concept is awesome.

I think the concept of the concept is awesome. As i've heard more and more from CIG, the less i find the concept appealing.

On top of that, the whole thing about the lore and naming is the sort of think that might have been come up by a 10 year old. Example, calling a planet Terra. Yeah, i had my own imaginary universe when i was about 10 with a planet called Terra in it (come on, admit it, most of us did... unless I was strange... no, its not me! Its everyone else!). Ahem.

I think this is perhaps where CR is getting a lot of his momentum from. He is looking to make that 10 year old boy dream come true. It might work... if they can turn the concept into something that resembles what many of us imagined. But reality is a harsh mistress at times.

Its really funny to listen about their "MMO" dream net-code

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eptOLkRHeZs&feature=youtu.be&t=233

In one video we can hear about thousands player dream and 64 player limit at same time..

So in best scenario they can have similar "MMO" game as Elite, you can actually see max 64 players, but other "ghosts" will influence economy and other stuff in the background...

I presume they're aiming for something like Planetside, which had 96vs96 fights, if I recall correctly, but it relied on the ground breaking up lines of sight, which helped reduce the network load.

The idea was that the worlds would be made of a grid of instances with 64 players and each instance would communicate with the others so everyone would see each other up to thousands - which to me makes as much real sense as homeopathy as you'd still be needing to send all the info around

You just don't understand netcode.

Serialised Physics Grid Variables will enable groups of up to 64 commandos to inhabit a "shard" - using special new networking server technology that's never been tried before. Each "shard" will communicate in real-time with other "shards", and a special server event called a "token" will enable each "shard" to tell all the other players in the world which server happens to have jurisdiction and authority over them at any given time - enabling a near-infinite number of players all in the same place at the same time - with absolutey no minimum bandwidth requirements and believe it or not, negative latency.

This revolutionary architecture is possible only by the team that brought you wireless fibre optics. Just imagine the possibilities!

Sorry mate but there simply is no comparison between the two and if you consider the last few pages here "toxic" you probably dont visit Reddit a lot or at all.

Its less denying others their fun in the current Star Citizen tech demo as you are trying to suggest but more the annoyance of yet another poster coming here claiming unbelievable performance (16+ people in a single instance all stable) without providing any evidence for it despite the ton of online material showing the exact opposite. And then having the nerve to get snippy when people here "dare" to question their credibility. I cannot call them out as SC-drones or rep-managers because that would get me banned but you know..... In addition there is the selective answering while pounding away at any angle they can find. No, the last few pages have neither been a "discussion" nor has it been a "show of affection for SC". IMO it was simply yet another weak attempt to shine some light on a and the timing is all too familiar (right before Gamescon). Anybody who frequents this thread knows very well we had our fair share of people who simply wanted to troll or rep-manage Star Citizen by claiming lies and providing tampered information (trying to sell the racing module as "planet cities are already in the game, honest"). Years before these people have been handled like equals and it took a lot of dicussion and investigative work on part of the "honest" people to figure out we were dealing with trolls. Well the tone has changed over the years especially as these same people are considered to return time and time again under just a different name.

Nowadays simply stating something wont convince anybody anymore but the follow-up posts indicate that these claimers had only one thing in mind.....rile up people and initiate bans/moderator actions.

If you personally think that SC in its current form is entertaining and worth your money, more power to you. Its your opinion and you obviously have a different take on "fun" then the rest of the posters. Nobody is denying you your fun. "Rubbing" starts when you try to sell your "opinion" as "fact" and call out people when all you have is a personal (wrong) interpretation of past things aka mindbending.

Telling somebody he/she is wrong and providing context or evidence for that viewpoint is not "toxic".

Or the sheer amount of effort going into orchestrating this apparently "random" coincidence of people who dont know each other but all claim the same supporting each other is astounding. Paranoia swings both ways. And again....its NOT denying you or others their "fun" in the PU, its rather the reactions and the tries to sell opinion for fact then calling people names if they decline to believe it which leads to a clashing.

We have enough people here on this forum....skeptics mind you who own the game, are backers and try to sample it from time to time. They provide us with a neutral or expected opinion only that these usually come with links or anything that provide context or evidence. I personally make sure to check online if any claim is made that surprises me in any way (like......"turret action was actually fun") to find proof because I dont rely on a single source. Only.....these people here on the forums...you know....the skeptics...whatever they provide usually checks out. We even have Rolan (sorry for calling you our buddy) a dedicated and convinced pro-SC fan and I dont see anybody giving him flak for it or trying to spoil his opinion do you? Like he had to express a few pages back tho.....these "random people" that you mention who are "innocently" stating their fun come across like fanatics in the following pages and are handled like ones as well. They dont like it....well change your approach.

That you compare this thread to the toxic cesspool which is Reddit...I dont know what to say. And you do it by putting "us: who have fun" versus "the rest of this hater thread" (I admit, my own interpretation of your words). Way to go.

Personally I ll save the exchange of the last few pages under yet another "desperate attempt" by pro-SC fanatics to change the count. You want to call it "toxic" on behalf of the oldtimers here....I cant change your opinion but I thought I ll comment on it.

/peace

I skipped in a bit more but honestly......dont expect me to sit through four hours of this stuff. I saw random crashes and the tuber (calling him a kid, how old are you Mole?) raging over the graphics mostly trying to sell it as the best game ever simply because of it looks. That apart there was nothing new from the game at least nothing I would consider "fun". Maybe we can get a more detailed timestamp.....with the skipping I did chances are I simply missed it.

Yep I skipped into some "vs Pirate NPCs" stuff which looked as generic as we know it is. There was a moment where a new subscriber asked some questions and the tuber took him on a ride to the next waypoint emphasizing music and visuals and almost letting under him from excitement from these things. That level of excitement is simply incomprehensible to me but maybe I expect too much based on the reports from all these people claiming the second coming in pre-alpha. If somebody tries to sell me something as "the best thing since bottled water" and the company supports that claim by charging hundreds of dollars for non-existing ingame assets I think I m in my right to expect a level of quality that would justify that degree of enthusiasm or expense. Maybe under that definition can you understand my complete disappointment and suspicion that people try to play me for a fool when they try to sell this stuff as the BDSSE or even dare to compare it to finished and released quality games in the same breath. Its laughable and very annoying.

You know we had someone claiming having "the fun of his life" in SC and boasting the project to heaven and back and only after some questioning and digging did we discover that the "fun" in question was kicking a can across the landing field with some friends. Needless to say its kind of a meme in here but it shows you exactly with what kind of mindset we deal in here. We try to "discuss" the game in this place. Simply stating "I had fun" is no discussion and its not the fault of the skeptics that every technical or gameplay argument falls flat on its face, because the game is that lacking yeah.

I cant wait for 3.0 to arrive to end this kind of discussion but you know.....it ll first arrive xmas 2017 or maybe even 2018...just my opinion of course.

Maybe I need to specify the role of a video posted as evidence because I got the feeling you intend to upload a video showing you and your mates having a laugh which is NOT what we are looking for. We want to see the stuff that you consider as fun, not watching "you" having fun. Big difference. When certain posters claim to have ended up in an instance with 16 people or 8 ships we d like a video showing gameplay of this fact, not some random snippets of people laughing and having a good time. When certain posters claim that the quality of the Baby PU equals released AAA titles I expect a video of mechanics and features that shows and supports that claim. Instead usually these people try to sell their personal opinion as fact which is handled accordingly and which you perceive as "toxic" and "double standard".

If for example your "fun" is having a riot whenever you or one of your buddies end up stuck in geometry or t-posing we will have a chance to evaluate your opinion in regards to this discussion. Needless to say if you want to be taken serious you need to cough up some serious arguments. Simply stating "I had fun" over and over and stating easily checkable stats wrong wont cut it. We dont need to argue about the length of development for example. This is obviously a sore point for many SC-fanatics. Its a tad annoying to see certain people coming up with the most ridiculous explanations to reduce development time but FACT is that development started in 2012, 2011 if we can believe the CEO. Not liking the fact doesnt make it any less true. Sadly its exactly that kind of back-and-forth (discussing personal opinions, not facts) that forces moderators to step in here.

Exactly. We are all in this thread because we originally thought the concept is cool and Star Citizen will be awesome (seriously....go back to thread 1 and check the first few pages). Realism sets in after a while tho thats all.

Like the honesty in your posts Fritz...but don't read anything more into mine than I typed. I'm sure I've mentioned before that I avoid Reddit like the proverbial plague...way too many keyboard warriors on there who should spend more time playing games than they do spouting about them on t'internet ;)

I'm just like the rest of us in here, I like the idea of SC but I'm a healthy and realistic sceptic at the same time. I posted the eejit streamers vid because I was in it...with a small group of random folks who all added each other as friends after spending a few nights just playing around in the PU just making gameplay up out of boredom. It just happened that neckbearded fool was at the security station when we went out there to escort a guy who had been killed 4 times trying to get rid of his wanted level. We mounted a rescue at Grimhex which involved a bit of ship to ship and FPS pew, took him to Kareah...had some more pew...back to Olisar for coffee and bragging.

We had fun in what is a complete buggy mess...I wasn't trying to give evidence that the PU is anything more than it is...we all know what it is and what it isn't, I'm not in the cult of Roberts by any means...neither are any of the guys I regularly meet and have a blast around the PU with. Like you mentioned, fun is relative and subjective...but I'd say with honesty, we have a laugh and fairly decent time playing in the PU for what it is...we laugh at being ejected from his Retaliator and left drifting in space...usually to attempt a call for an SAR mission to rescue us by random newbies in the chat...always good for a laugh that one. The PU is what it is, I'm not attempting to pull some PR stunt here. We log on perhaps once a week to remind ourselves what buttons to press, chat a bit, give some ships to newbies to crash into Olisar, answer basic questions for the new folks (what button for landing gear) then go make up an SAR mission or attack randoms at Kareah for a bit of pew.

I usually play turret gunner on my mates Tali, he's a much better pilot than I am...I've found that using an Xbox controller as I do for the on foot and FPS bits of SC negates the turret lag that a lot of mouse/kb players have reported. I've no idea why it's any different, but I tried going to m/kb as a test and found exactly what they had been complaining about....it's terrible.

Anyway, like everyone else...I'm just waiting to get hold of 3.0 to see where SC is heading, I may not like it...I've honestly no idea. As to my age...I'm older than most, younger than some at 58...my reference to the neckbeard was that he behaved like a child with ADHD, not in reference to his actual appearance or age. My eldest son had ADHD when he was younger (he's 25 now) so I'm not trying to offend anyone....the guy was a complete tool, which wasn't too obvious to us initially as he wasn't watching or answering the in game chat.
After I watched the stream on YouTube, I seriously wish I had just shot him offhand, which was the plan originally. He had no armour and fairly crap weapons, so if he had shot at Clawstrider or myself as I found out he had been toying with the idea...he would have died fairly quickly :)

We had a fairly average night that night...made some friends, had some PvP ship battles and FPS stuff most of which was going on in the background as that eejit was saluting or dancing or planning to shoot me in the back if you read the in game chat... When we play, there's usually 5 or 6 of us plus a few randoms here and there to liven things up. I've also found that the US servers are a complete buggy gankfest...European, not so much and it's fairly well populated...if you can stand all the French and Italians spamming the chat [haha]

Insured against what risks?
The discussion was if the company fails to deliver the product.

Key personnel are insurable. PEOPLE are a company asset. ANYTHING that is an asset is insurable. An employer can get insurance on key personnel if the loss or damage of that person or peoples would seriously impact the company.

Fritz who is this aimed at?

"I cannot call them out as SC-drones or rep-managers because that would get me banned but you know....."

You did it anyway.

If it is -- to quote you-- provide evidence.

If it is aimed at me or the guy that was here yesterday CRIss???? and your only reason for thinking that we are a computer program or paid CIG employees is that we currently disagree with your position, then golly that's sad, in fact it is disappointing nonsense. I thought we were having a fun discussion-- 100+ posts in a day!

If it is not CRISS?? (I can not recall his name) or I please clarify that as it seems that way.

You did it anyway.

Could be me too. I said it before that I don't work for or am in association with the people behind Star Citizen. Had a great time playing it. Shared it here, and now to some I'm involved in corporate espionage.

Go figure. I guess this is one of the key points to why the gaming industry is a billion dollar business.

I think it was pretty neutral - just questioned whether they believed him. Your report of how the experience went sounds much more faithful to what we experience and see when we go play, but since people here DO go play we know the "EVERYTHING WAS FINE - HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE ARE PLAYING WONDERFUL SMOOTH AAA GAMEPLAY TO MATCH ANY GAME OUT THERE NOW" thing is simply not true and it'll be challenged.

But when we questioned it out came the "do you even play bro?"

Frosty are these actual quotes from yesterday?

1."do you even play bro?"
2 "EVERYTHING WAS FINE - HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE ARE PLAYING WONDERFUL SMOOTH AAA GAMEPLAY TO MATCH ANY GAME OUT THERE NOW"

I did not read all of yesterdays 100 +posts so I may have missed them.
If so :
I understand number 1 as ASP is the only (lets call them 'unsure re SC') person who I knew played, until you said that you did which I did not know-- good for you- so the line "most" probably do not is probably a true picture.
Number 2 is incorrect its not" a smooth AAA gameplay to match any game out there" that is also nonsense whoever said that is incorrect its Alpha it would be amazing if it was.-- Who said that?
