Passenger Mission Dummy's Guide

Hello Hello Hello.

2.3 has arrived so its time for me to get into the stuff from the last release and try out passenger missions whihc are now hopefully all fixed and working as intended. Sometimes it pays to be a late adopter or one step behind. So can anyone point me to an up-to date guide on passenger missions and what they are all about. I looked in the guides and tutorials section but couldn't find one. When they firs came out I tried them twice and havent touched them since. So I know nothing (as usual). Please help. I'd like to start off by doing small easy no hassle minimal jump trips and work my way uo to something exciting. SO for now I guess it's economy class? I just dont't know.

Dummy's Guide please

It is as straight-forward as installing a couple of cabins and checking the Passenger mission board. :)

I prefer the tourist trips, as there are some interesting sights. If you are allied with a faction you can pick up some lucrative ones too. I mainly run the missions out of Jameson Memorial, where I have lots of different cabins stored. I check the mission board, and then go to outfitting to load up the cabins that are needed for the missions I want to take.

Given how little module storage we have, Jameson is one of the places I don't store anything, given everything is for sale there.

While that's true, it's still cheaper to store than to sell and rebuy. Well... It used to be; thinking about it though, I haven't double-checked. It used to be that you lost money on a module when you sold it - is that still the case?

Jameson is my home station, all my ships are there anyway (except for the one at Colonia).

lol, where are you getting your passengers from?! Mine have all been fine - even the dodgy underworld types...

Dummy's guide please? :D

How it all works and the differnec between stuffs

It seems there are all sort of cabin types and some rules around them, specialist ships, mission types and so on. Any experts out there abele to break this all down in to a simple guide covering all the various bits and aspects?

The only rule with regards to cabins is that only certain ships can fit luxury cabins (the smallest being the Dolphin). Other than that, the passenger has to match the cabin class (economy passenger requires an economy cabin, but would also go into any cabin rated higher, e.g. first and business).

There are essentially only two missions types. One way trips where passengers need to get to another location, and sightseeing missions where you take a tourist around various sights and then back to the starting point.

I started with the Orca, and that's all I've ever used for passenger missions. I roll high class with luxury and first class cabins.

You want your origin point to be stuffed full of minor factions that love the bejeesus out of you. That way they will trust you with their VIPs, crime lords and politicians. They seem to pay the best. Stick to missions inside the Bubble. If you see a mission to Colonia, pass on that until you really decide you want to go.

Many of the VIPs will get upset if they are scanned. If it's crime lords, then the station will kill you (at least, they used to. Not sure if they changed it). Standard smuggling rules apply; you're just smuggling passengers rather than contraband. You have to read the mission log to see what kind of passenger you're taking on. If you're not confident about your smuggling abilities, leave Al Capone at home.

Sometimes a passenger will ask for something, like clothes. (Because one dude needs several tonnes of clothes... I guess). You can just take a slight detour and buy them. Or not. You get to have a few transgressions before they decide they want their money back.

Because some passengers are needy, some are deadly to be caught scanned in, and still others will have assassins out looking for them, I don't tend to take on lots of passengers at once. I just take a few at a time and roll with it. For your first couple trips, I'd just take one and feel it out.

Your standard VIP will want to go to a tourist beacon. So just go to it, drop out of supercruise and scan the beacon, then head on home. Your mission timer is about going there and getting back again, btw. Not just going there. Some VIPs just want to be dropped off somewhere, but that's a bit rare. Probably the stinking masses go in for that sort of thing more often. I wouldn't know.

Oh, and don't fall asleep and fly into a star. They tend not to like that ;) .

I've tried that a couple of times, but when I get back, the mission is gone. So, I've increased my ships holding ability to grab immediately, the ones I want.

Same experience for me. What I did during the times I used to do tourists missions with my AspX was to fit 2 cabins of different classes, pick a mission, and go to outfitting to replace the empty cabin by the fuel scoop.

Then I moved to an Orca with a good jump range and plenty of space for more cabins :D

My one and only tip, is check your destination system.

Some missions, particularly Sol's True Northern Star mission, requires a minimum jump range of around 35~ly. Lol

In most cases, the destination is more than 1000ly away, but just check the local star density before departing.

Or carry atleast 2x jumponium.

Dummy's Guide...?

Just fitted a First Class Cabin with 12 berths and took my first passenger mission, requiring 6 Business Class berths. Then fitted a Business Class Cabin with 6 berths for the first mission, and tried to take a second mission requiring 6 First Class berths to put in the now vacant First Class Cabin. Wouldn't let me. Realized that any individual group of passengers take up the whole Cabin module you put them in regardless of how many empty berths are left in it, and once they're assigned a particular Cabin module, they can't be moved to another one. Abandoned first mission. Thought: 'How typically stupid.' Probably won't take another passenger mission. Ever.

I store a lot of things at Jameson because I will buy a few of each module and have it shipped where I might be when I need it. Since modules are all available there, you can fill your stock pretty well with things like fuel scoops and cabins and such, and change as you need to for this or that. Sometimes you have to wait for them to show up (<1 minute really means about 5 minutes or more) but you will eventually receive them. I try to not sell anything unless it's stock and I am upgrading.

Don't give up. You wouldn't share a 1st class cabin with another group, would you? That wouldn't really be 1st class. I don't think it's like an airliner where each seat is a separate ticket. These cats lease the cabin.

Sometimes you'll get a bunch of folks in economy, but the price doesn't really reflect the number of people. I try to fill all my cabins and unless they have to have 1st class or luxury they are getting the other ones. Often though I end up with empty luxury or 1st class cabins because I cannot find the right number of passengers for those cabins.

Yeah, there's a considerable drop in quality if you go to stations where you're not the golden child. I usually stop in at Moxon's Mojo and Al-Haytham Enterprise, because I am like a goddess to them. I like snatching up a couple of transport missions, because I can jump to various systems, drop off the passengers, and head back by the time I do a 4,000,000 credit tour, and I make almost as much. I don't really like complex missions, anyway. I much prefer transports.

Psh. Don't you tell me what to do!

Easiest 3 million I made in a Explorer... Blank wants to go on a "sightseeing adventure" usually less than 300 light years. Fit module to match. I haven't tried the 25KLy, week long missions yet.
You can stack, be aware of cabin requirements, as some luxury passenger groups may be "snobbish" and not want to mingle with stowage class... and demand a ware or two enroute.
Some passengers are "cosplaying" secretive roles and may not appreciate a scan, pay attention to mission briefings.
Local rep effects mission availability just like normal missions.
Great for rapidly advancing exploration rating.
Store modules when not in use, swap with cargo.
Have fun. And wear a bus driver hat.

:p

Btw, I haven't seen a single transport mission to Colonia. I see loop missions, but it would be much more attractive to have a ship full of 20m Cr contracts to go to Colonia and drop them off, then when I want to come back, pick up more and bring them back. I don't want to do 50KLY in 3 weeks or so.

Just the other night I had a first. in which my VIP demanding a 6kLY trek..
n I decided to take it being I haven't made the 5kLy trek out from the bubble n figured I could do so while making a cool 10mil.. though before leaving I had to drop a few missions, in system. so upon making planetary landing no more than 20mins after taking mission.
I receive a mission fail.. stating the passenger " has
escaped and or ejected".........

Yet I can't jettison these whiney brats into the nearest star...

Long range passengers are requesting secrecy : they don't want to be scanned. Exploring is a hard job with lots of competitors and espionage is a real threat (that might be some lore explanation).
