Complaint about BETA

Frontier are the ones who decide what they want testing, which is why they often set up beta only CGs or post messages in game. You don't like it? Don't participate, it's as simple as that.

You said it yourself OP, Beta is whatever Frontier wnats it to be. You kinda killed your own thread right there. They can do what they like. Is it ok? Usually, not always. Are they particularly good at making the most out of the beta process. Probably not. Hey, you can always ask for your money back? :)

There were two particularly poignant posts in this thread. The one where Agony Aunt pointed out that it would be better to be buggy than totally spoiled, and Cael pointing out that it is patently obvious that you are just whining that your 15 quid didn't get you Thargoid content before me.

well I have been playing the beta for 2 years now and I think it is fine, still not ready but getting there....

Perhaps FD are going to use current assets as placeholders for thargoid content - e.g. some uber anacondas, capital ships and strong surface bases - so that the AI can be tested without revealing too much. There is also likely to me plenty more to test out too.

Seems like not a single person agreed with OP yet. Maybe it's time to realise that your opinion isn't as universal as you want it to be?

Um yes it does. Because if I hear English and it spells like English and it uses English words and letters. Than it has to have the same definition. If it doesn't then guess what. None of us really know what anyone is saying. It's all gibberish and useless. Communication breaks down if we aren't all using the same dictionary definitions. Either you're with the same definitions or well you're not speaking English. Same goes for any other "language" as well.
You utterly missed the point. Yes, a beta is to test, but the developer decides what is to be tested. Always has, always will. Nothing about beta actually says testing a full complete product anymore.

Just because you decide that their beta should include everything, doesn't mean they have to do it. They decide what gets tested.

I'd suggest this thread is mostly about having an argument for no discernable reason. Luckily the beta test will proceed as advertised anyway on 17 August (probably).

Internal Beta team test everything (including thargoid content) under a NDA. Everyone else tests content FD want tested in a open environment without the hassle of NDA's or leaks.. Life goes on.

Quite surprised to see this thread re-opened tbh. The OP didn't have any constructive argument to present, it just sounded like a selfish complaint about how she/he couldn't see aliens soon enough without stopping to think how spoilers could affect story development for the rest of the community. :)

Then it's not BETA testing it's limited early access with the title of BETA.

I'm not even disagreeing, but since you arrived at that conclusion, shouldn't you have then have taken the next logical step and stop paying for those betas ?
And if you haven't yet, will you in the future ?

You didn't read everything I wrote you skimmed it.... Most of the patches that have come out have not had BETAs. Only the ones this year have had BETAS (not talking about 2.0, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3)

This isn't a patch but an update. All updates have had beta. This is an update not a patch and will get a beta due to the extra stuff that needs testing. Patches are there to fix the issues that have been found and shouldn't need beta testing. Really do not understand your argument to be fair.

Also I don't want all the thargoid stuff ruined for me or others with it being in beta.

The way I see it and going on previous "Betas" even if the Thargoid stuff was in it and people actually did what they should be doing in a "Beta" it would still come out half and broken then needing a patch a week or two later.

If it should be there, maybe it should as it might well save FD a whole host of salt shoveling come late August or maybe it shouldn't and we all get to go "oh my" when it does get released. Im waiting for the patch notes and looking forward to seeing what's in that before I start throwing my toys out of the pram.
