Too Many Police

I find too many police when I bounty hunt these days. I've gotten 2 sets of fines this week for my NPC pilot friendly firing with a stray shot and another for GETTING RAMMED by a police ship (and there's still that random railgun fire bug). It's really getting out of hand. One time I had 4 Anaconda squads show up and I could barely get a shot in. So do systems with lower security ratings have fewer system authority ships in their Res areas? I know I can do Hazardous Res sites, but those are hard to make money in without a better ship (I fly an A-rated Vulture, but when NPC's are Master or Elite with engineered Clippers and Gunships, its not really worth the few credits for the effort/ammo/repair costs).

  1. Situational Awareness is King. Develop it and stop shooting friendlies. The friendly fire allowance is much more generous than it used to be, so it is not just a glancing shot that got you wanted
  2. Ramming by a police ship got you wanted, ahem. I would like to see some video evidence of this
  3. What Railgun bug?
  4. "Few credits, really?" An Elite Anaconda can be worth 400,000 credits nowadays. Repairs and ammo are dirt cheap, too.

For me, police is my friend and helper in RES sites. They do a lot of the work and I collect the bounty. [up]

Sorry to say: this is a serious case of "git gud".

Get into power play and get a system permit wherein which you receive no bounties.().
This one is new to me. Care to explain?

Maybe, but I do agree that even the Haz res sites are full of "clean" ships that are on patrol. The Hi res and res sites are basically police stations.

I do have to wonder though if having "report crimes against me" active will bring more feds than normal in a res site, when some NPC takes a shot at you because you have some modular terminals.

If you can't control your firing, you might be best bounty hunting in an anarchy and using a KWS.

Otherwise, situational awareness, check your fire. The police are the police. You are not the police, you are bounty hunter scum.

AFAIK, NPC friendly fire should not get you a fine. If that is happening, raise a bug report with FD.

No police in Haz Res.
No fines in anarchy systems.

Both are valid options if you are tired of the man keeping you down.

"Bounty hunter scum?"

A bit harsh don't you think, you've hurt my feellies.

I think froth or foam might be a better descriptive than scum, it has such negative connotations.

Carry cargo.

Pirates come to you, and open fire, no scanning required, hence no accidentally shooting unscanned ships. Easy!*
Get friendly with the locals so security show up as green, then they're easier to avoid.

Fly safe!

Carry cargo.

This. You should always have a couple of tons of something if you want to attract the attention of undesirables. And if you pledge to a power, you'll also get interdicted by enemies too (though it's weird that this only ever seems to happen for me in my power's home system).

I also take cargo into haz res when I go hunting. Can make things quite interesting for a while.

Police show up in greater frequency if you have "report crimes" on in the right hand HUD.

Set it to off and see how that works.

Wow, I did not know this! If a person plays in Mobius or Solo, is there even a point to having "report crimes" turned on? It seems an irrelevant feature when applied to NPCs (as only criminals will attack in the first place).

There's definitely a point. If you have report crimes turned on, and you are attacked, then the police will come and help you (after a short delay, depending upon the security of the system). So, if you find yourself outgunned, you could just give the attacker the run around until the police arrive, and then attack and claim the bounty with their help.

If you don't have report crimes turned on, it's just you against your attacker.

Go to a low security system.
Geez....

Ahhh.. I did not know this, either! I just thought the feature made ships "wanted", I didn't realize it was the equivalent to calling 911. Very good to know!

Thanks for some of the tips. Carrying cargo is a no go because my Vulture doesn't have a cargo bay.

And apparently some of you missed it. it was my NPC crew who shot the cops, not me. I'm good at avoiding friendly fire (unlike my cordial authorities). And yes, I got rammed by the police, but it put me at fault (probably because of the force. he boosted into me).

Its really turned me off from bounty hunting a bit. It's not been as lucrative as it was earlier in the game. I can make 200,000CR from a single kill sometimes, but my ship gets pretty beat up. And then all of the power issues with the Vulture. I can do trading runs with much less risk and far fewer expenses, and make much more.
