There was an Elite Dangerous player complaining on Twitter that the planets are not rendered correctly as he says it is proven the Earth is flat :D

People just like to be contrary, often choosing to [passionately] get behind something that they don't truly believe themselves, privately.

I'd wager that number of actual flatearthers, people who genuinely believe the Earth is flat, is overwhelmingly smaller than the number of internet flaterthers

The fact is that most of us believe what we believe because someone else told us it was true. Not a lot of us take the time to verify that reality is what we believe it to be.

... incidentally if someone can pay for my ticket when commercial spaceflight becomes a reality I'd really LOVE to see that the Earth is a sphere with my own two eyes. Not that I doubt it for a moment but to actually fly into space!

I personally know a guy, a preacher, who believes in the flatearth and teaches it in his church. You'd be surprised by the number of people who buy it hook, line and sinker. In fact ... I used to attend his Church almost two decades ago before he totally went off the deep end until one day when the wife and I looked at each other and decided things were starting to get crazy. I like faith. Faith without reason? No thanks.

What make me laugh is how sincere they sound. The absurdity of what they actually say and the basic lies as well. Go up a highish mountain and you can see the curvature of the earth. It's not hard. You can even see it at sea level as long as you have an uninterupted view.

I've personally looked into their claims and have to admit, a lot of their proofs make sense, but only the ones I've experienced, for instance, the curvature of the globe, I have never seen the curvature and have been on many plane flights at 50k feet, the earth looks, well flat. Flat Earthers have been around from the start of civilization, and used to be the common theme of the day, to the point that Globers were persecuted for expounding on the "myth" that the earth was round, and you don't have to go that far back, happened in Columbus's time. But for me, no one has proven that the earth is flat, nor have they proven that it is round, I would suggest that its an oblong Coriolis.......

Yes there's proof the earth is round, like I said earlier, naval combat, ship could hide over the horizon....that immediately disproves flat earth. Also how can so many people have circumnavigated the world if it was flat? Flat earthers = cretins.

Personally to me, it seems to stem from growing up with a cultivated mistrust for anything 'government' so anything the government says MUST be false, and anyone saying the same must be believing the lies, I mean, and I say this without wanting to insult anyone, but flatearthers are practically exclusively Americans? Or at least that's what I've seen so far. May be mistaken.
