i have acceptable internet, enough to play other multiplayer games with ease , with some lag here and there, and ever sense i stared ED this was so not too bad , and not too good, but the past few weeks have been horrible, i cant ever log into the game for longer than 3 mins with out being booted , i checked with my internet serves provider and they said its not on there end,

if i cant play the game longer than 3 mins i lose interest, but i love ED ( not the kind you take for Vi@gra either )

is this a problem were i can just wait it out and the devs fix it soon , or is it going to be fixed in 2.4 =/

Reduce your MTU.

netsh interface ipv4 show subinterface

Tells you what you are hooked upto.

Then..

netsh interface ipv4 set subinterface "Ethernet" mtu=1200 store=persistent

or

netsh interface ipv4 set subinterface "WiFi" mtu=1200 store=persistent

Depending on your connection type.

Trust me, this will sort your drama. Been there myself.

EDIT : these are DOS console commands run as admin in case it wasn't obvious

has there been a patch for elite that made the game worse?
or is it an isp issue their not likely to admit too?
I have had issues but mine was for a long time and has been Adsl modem router related it seems.

All im saying is if it was working more acceptably a couple of weeks ago and now its suddenly not, sounds like it may not be game related?

As for the MTU size change ive not done this and not been advised by FD to either, does it really make a big difference?

Yes it does.

I have an Ethernet connection, a Powerline connection and a Wifi connection.

Ethernet works at standard MTU.

Powerline is super sketchy, in fact unusable for Elite even with low MTU

Wifi works at an MTU of 1200.

Ive tested it a lot.

OK, let us break this down:

OP, how does your computer connect to your router? Wired Ethernet, WiFi, Ethernet over power lines, ???

Second, what kind of internet service do you use? Speed, basic technology (i.e. Cable, DSL etc)

Can confirm that the recent connectivity issues, either with my recent change of ISP's have ruined my play sessions. I.e. I'm getting kicked off every 5-10 minutes on a bog standard ADSL2+ connection (Telstra). My previous ISP provider (Vividwireless) which provided ~Half of ADSL2+ speeds at a more symmetrical allocation was more reliable than my current. It is noteworthy that both connections were over WIFI.

I can only agree with this. I've played a lot less the last couple months, much because I get tired of constant disconnects. Like the OP, I get these even when I don't have network issues for any other devices or apps/games.

You can do these in powershell as well, at least on Windows 10.

It could be one of these more complex settings; and it was very nice for everyone to share that information. It could also be something simple like that standard prompt that pops up generally when you first start playing a game that requires internet access in most supported versions of Windows. I would also check to see if you are getting the Window's prompt to allow Frontier and or Elite Dangerous game to be clear to access your internet connection after you have already started the game (Client). It generally prompts you when you first log into the game, but when I bought this new computer on Win 10, for some reason Windows didn't prompt me to permit ED to connect through my network until a few times after starting and playing through the game, and I noticed I was getting booted from the Matchmaking or Transaction server frequently at first. Also, the permission box for the game's connection through the internet didn't prompt me before the client started from the launcher, and I only noticed it after the third or so time playing because of a random decision to "alt + tab" out to Desktop to view the volume level for my speakers. The box prompting me to allow Elite access to my internet connection happened to be center screen when I "alt + tabbed" from the client to Windows that one time. Try "alt+tab" next time you start the game and once you log in to see if the connection permission window prompts, and of course make sure that you select "Yes" to allow the game to connect through your network.

no probs whatsoever with Powerline on my end...

I had a quick look at the Telstra website. Their services seem to have upload speeds lower than download speeds. I could find no evidence of actual throttling being enforced, but a lot of wording that amounts to you may not get what you pay for and particularly at peak times. Interestingly speedtest results looked okay, but the experience was very different.

This brought back some memories. When I first played ED I had lots of connection issues. These disappeared when I upped my package. What I found was that my provider capped up stream at about 10 percent of my down stream and then reserved the right to throttle at peak times, so I would then see a mere fraction of that 10 per cent. Upgraded and problems disappeared. At the time everything else we played was fine. ED is founded on a p2p system, most multiplayer games on client server architecture and therefore upstream speeds is as important as downstream. There are 4 gamers in our house so the network is well used.

I would try comparing open and solo and seeing what the impact of playing at different times of the day or week has on the experience.

Clearly having non-symmetrical internet doesn't go well with elite. :(

It's not sub par servers, its the topology they have chosen to use which is the issue. In client server players connect to the central server, p2p there are additional connections player to player which adds load on the up and down stream. Basically cost is moved out to the player base and an assumption made that the player base will have sufficient bandwidth to compensate. Sadly, that is not true worldwide.
