Are you hyped for 2.4 Beta?

I hate to be a downer, but honestly I read "core improvements" for what happens post 2.4 as "time to put ED to pasture and just chip in with the occasional maintenance and QOL improvement."
I don't think things are at that stage yet, but if it turns out that you are correct, I suspect that players will get the blame for it.

Waiting is exactly what one is doing...just waiting silently because otherwise it's just plain vexing as thread after thread goes Pete tong and turns into an echo chamber. Not only is there absolutely nothing to get excited about, let alone hopeful...but there's absolutely naff all to talk about either.

You have the 2.4 changelog in a few days, and the Big Reveal is in two months. I think we'll manage the wait. :p

I genuinely wish I had been here when things were better...that might have meant I had more enthusiasm than I feel at this present time.

I dont think there was this 'better time'. We had the same ratio of complaints from day 1. Enthousiasm comes from within young padawan, not from 'being at the forum at the right time' or something. :p

Uh, did you really just refer to verminstar as "my young Padawan?"

I'm trying to decide if you deserve some rep for that or not.

Dunkirk had a happier ending than Bataan... :(

Even Ike wanted to shoot MacArthur. Guess how we feel about Market Garden? Operation Tiger. Convoy PQ-13? :(

If they finally...finally put some animated characters in the starports and control towers, I will be satisfied.
bet they don't though.

Suits me...the change logs will have all the major changes and I got next to no interest in thargoids anyway, so next week will do fer now.

Nah this place was better once I think...I remember another game, another forum and players were preaching this to be the best community ever, and how the devs used to communicate regularly with their players...obviously trying to talk us round to the idea of giving it a shot. Not heaping praise on them nowadays though...far from it.

I arrived just as season 2 was getting into full swing...all Ive seen is an ever worsening situation as opposed to a great community that once was. The levels of salt really wasnt what I meant at all...thats consistant in every game ever made since the beginning of games. I meant from the perspective of how frontier has dealt with it...they stopped communicating entirely.

So hows that worked out?

I wouldn't say they've stopped communicating entirely, they're just not providing the detail about upcoming content quite they way they used to in the days of Dev Updates and DDF. I think they're a lot more guarded these days as many of us, myself included, have at times been critical of new content before it actually releases - Powerplay, CQC, multicrew for example. I also think they get a bit of a kick out of having surprises, like they sprung with the updated camera suite for example. I'd love to see a return of the Dev Updates, but perhaps not with the current community state - it probably only works in an environment of hope and wonder, not one of cynicism. As this community has grown and become more diverse, and that's not a bad thing, I think it's also made it harder for Frontier to take risks in communicating their plans too soon.

Tbf the devs were a lot more communicative back then and the community was more friendly on the forum and not as prone to crapping the bed the moment something is suggested or implemented that breaks their mursins.

Seems the only way you get a glimpse of future content is if you stream on twitch, make tube videos or go to one of their neckbeard conventions.

This is all we know so far: https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDange...ntier_qa_panel_lavecon_2017_features_changes/

Hopefully they managed to get in a lot more. We'll see on the 17th.

If all we get during the beta is the stuff they showed at Lavecon then it's too little imo.

I understand they're saving the lionshare for the full release with the Thagoids. They're spreading out said content with narrative player-driven events for months. How can they drip-feed players after nearly milking the Thargoid mystery dry during the last 2 years?

2.4 will probably not have: non-combat role for multicrew, custom waypoints, multiplayer missions, base building, NPC populations at stations/bases, guild features.

We might get: more Thargoid related content on planets, Panther Clipper.

So I'm quite skeptical about 2.4.

No interest in the beta whatsoever. I'm happy to just let FD make what they're gonna make, and when they release it, play it.

I don't allow myself to get hyped anymore because the last time I was hyped it backfired on me and I was quite disappointed to be frank.
I'm on Xbox so I can't participate in the beta but 2.4 seems to me as a big bug patch and the addition of the Thargoids.
I'm not getting hyped over bug fixes since bugs shouldn't be in the game in the first place, not that they can't happen but they just don't belong in the game. So fixes of broken things don't get me hyped.

The Thargoids thing will present itself as either something awesome or a let down, I hope the first of course but I'm not getting hyped until I see it.

Maybe there will be other additions we don't know about, I hope so but nothing's been said about that, no reason to get hyped in that department either.

We'll just have to wait and see and hope to be pleasantly surprised..........
I'm not hyped while waiting and hoping.......

Considering that we won't be testing the Thargoid content in the beta and that it has 2 stages, closed and open, there's probably more they want us to test. What they showed at Lavecon doesn't really need much testing imo.

And honestly, if they had planned a small beta test, they could've easily started a bit earlier and sync the 2.4 release with Gamescom for maximum coverage. Since it's starting on the 17th, I doubt they're doing that.

First things first. Give the QA team a break, it's not their fault their tickets are not getting through the bizarre priorities someone else is assigning (Falling skimmers killing players? Minor. Someone making too much money in Robigo/Sothis/Quince? Blocker!). AND with the skeleton crew apparently maintaining Horizons it's no wonder they cannot fix them all.

their first FD expo with ED being front and center if they had no major plans for it. I dont think you need to suffer under illusions or be incredibly naive to come to that conclusion.

Ummm... Elite front and center how exactly? Because it was even a small forum war about how they can fit that "all new exciting future content" into 40 minutes of speak shared with the "mystery franchise"? The agenda has in meantime been changed to less-time-revealing...

If anything, this expo will be leveraging Planet Coaster and the new franchise which I have a suspicion will also be space related somehow and tie in with the Alien life guest speaker.

And back on topic:

Beta what? Oh you must mean the alien combat zones and more engineer grind. No, no, god forbid no. Overwatch Summer Games in full swing, X: Rebirth VR edition is a sight to behold and flies amazingly fun with the Vive motion controllers, and last but not least list of shame also known as steam backlog is full of wonderful games, and in October I will be hyped for Fallout 4 VR. So, no, gradually de-hyped since 2.1.

It was a generalized figure of speech...the likes of the live streams technically qualifies as communication, just doesnt have anything useful in them. And while Im sure there are those who would wish fer all the details, even a few scraps here and there would be enough to keep a lotta folks happy...Im assuming here judged on comments by others. In the complete absence of even that much, to not expect apathy is very naive indeed.

Indifference, intended or otherwise, over enough time tends to give the impression they simply couldnt care less. Their dropping of the season model to go into what appears to be maintenance mode with the game winding down developement...that might not what they are really doing, but with the stone wall silence, thats what it looks like.

Hardly inspirational stuff...when so little that could achieve so much is even held back, ye really do have to wonder at the mentality behind it. It really doesnt make any sense at all unless ye see it through a childs eyes, in which case it looks like a tantrum.

Good thing I dont judge a book by its cover, hmm. Like I said...waiting patiently...not long to go now and then we shall see what happens next. The salty speculation and whine fests, as fun as they can be sometimes, only does more harm than good in the long run. Which is another way of saying Ive lost my mojo and need some good news to relight that fire...the embers have all but gone cold now ^
