Star Citizen Thread v6

What, Wing Commander: The Movie isn't good enough for you? He changed cinema forever with that one. That's why Star Wars is always put down as a "cheap Chris Roberts ripoff."

It would be interesting to see perfectionism somehow infect Star Citizen, but I would be more inclined to applaud a sudden infestation of basic competence. Tho not as flashy, it tends to be something good to have when executing an ambitious project. But what do I know, I've only worked on things that were released.

Still understand. I spent 5 years developing for a game. But its all rubbish anyway, the same principles apply.

Oh man, you just gave yourself away. Well played sir, well played. Care to share your something awful username with us?

Everyone else - chill, JohnMice isn't a SC fan at all. We've been had.

Do tell [yesnod]

Once Perfectionism 2.0 is implemented very soon, you'll see increased output on the pipelines as Spectrum will be submerged in subsumption, obsessed by consumption, and still cracking the same stupid noodle machine jokes.

Underline stuff is completely made up and laughable to just think about.

I agree with you on that, the bit about CR wanting bullet trajectories calculated from the weapon barrels certainly is laughable because it's absolutely true.
It's like the snoopy caps, and the other stuff that drove the whole art team to walk out that one time.

While it's laughably feature creep for a space sim game, isn't games like ArmA actually does it?

Nope. Calculated from the centre of the camera.

Remember the head bob stuff and what CR was trying to achieve with that? And the "you control the pilot controlling the ship" stuff? So that, for the guns.

So, gamescon today right?

SC fans getting very excited about some images they have been shown.

For example this.

Now, i must admit, it looks very nice, but, can that be a real in-game shot with no photoshop on top? Are CIG misleading people?

Regardless, pretty screenshots a game does not make. We've seen pretty a boatload.

Waiting for the gameplay vids from the con, as i understand some people have already got to play a bit. Apparently not bad framerate, although ill wait for the vids to confirm that. People might be hyping up their experience.

Logically speaking, I've always wondered how the guns attached to the hull can survive an entry burn without any damage. My suspension of belief just won't kick in.

Your ship, and by extension its weapon systems, are protected by your shields on reentry. They've suggested that you might have a rough time trying to enter the atmosphere with your shields down.

I'm waiting for the cinematic imagining of how Chris Roberts would like the game to be, at the presentation on Friday. They are always exciting, regardless of how much or how little they resemble the bare bones of the game that is under development. And best of all, they can be experienced without having to pledge/invest/donate/throw into a bottomless pit a penny.

It would be real surprise if they wouldn't have *something* to show.

But few levels does not make game. I really don't care, you could even have blocky textures for all I care, as long it has some interesting basic gameplay loop going on.

But I guess faithful need *something* to hold on so they will accept whatever Chris can throw them. Meh.

You would think they would put in at least minimum protective casing. Naaah, doesn't look that cool.

Shields protect against force of gravity, and speeding up ship in thick atmosphere?

That's just lazy. Shields are never THAT powerful.

So...stopping plasma, lasers, parts of ships, railgun rounds, and missiles is ok, but atmosphere is where you draw your line in the sand of believability?

Landing on atmospheric planet is very tricky, very hard to do thing. Even in sci-fi. Ships prepare, everybody running around nervously. 'Prepare for taking it down!', etc. You could easily fold those weapons into more protective position for all I care. Have *something* indicating landing.

That's what problem with most sci-fi fantasy ships. They are just statues. Not real, breathing things. In space almost nothing stand in your way to create monstrosities that are mish mash of different parts of machinery. But it is ok as long as you don't try to land it somewhere. None of things you named can mess up your ship the way simple atmosphere can.

So, hull tanking ships not an option in SC then?

It will be option....if you will be this special ship just for special offer 300 USD only! ;) We call it a......Hull Buster 300i! Wait...what do you say it is already taken?!
