I'm so very bored of reposting this. Apologies to the mods but....Driving on planets, well ED's planets are pretty much a joke, when you can't get out and look around because there is no player character (as such). They're not even in the same space (loading screens).
playdoh has more gameplay than what they have at those booths. There is objectively more gameplay involved with a lego spaceship and a 3 year old child.
ED is way less complicated than SC (at the moment)

WRONG. They are in exactly the same space and there are NO LOADING SCREENS

"This is a very very early alpha"
Hahahahahahaha!
That's not loading planets, and more a negotiation with other P2P connections - the planet is there, the locations are there, all that gets "loaded" is the connections to other players.there is however, instance loading...
Send me?
To do damage control?
Are you mad?
thing is actually more complicated than that though, like, is there even a possibility that you can hit space stations at super cruise in ED? even if it just 1:10^12^12 chance of that can happen? That's not loading planets, and more a negotiation with other P2P connections - the planet is there, the locations are there, all that gets "loaded" is the connections to other players.
This constant comparison between an actual car and a clay concept model with a working car door but nothing else is ridiculous. Makes discussion so awkward and so hard to keep rational and pegged down.

Secondly the whole game is already built in proper scale and has been since day 1. Every ship, every station, every door. They could easily let you walk around - heck go use someone's VR kit and have a look around your cockpit - but as stated they don't because there's no compelling gameplay reason and it's development for nothing. What different do you imagine that you'd see if you got out of the rover? Same stuff, just moving more slowly.
If we're going to make comparisons let's at least actually compare it to Elite, not to an imaginary non existent other game. I wonder if people actually play the game sometimes.
As to opening doors.... still my beating heart! Once you get to discussions about crew/NPC passengers then we're back into the comedy of Skyrim's lively NPC conversations..... it's all imaginary fluff where suddenly AI has gotten to a point that these interactions aren't laughable. No game has that currently, proclaiming it as a plus point for SC is a joke when they have none at the moment and the rumours are they aren't coming anytime soon.
there is however, instance loading...

because if it cannot, then there you goes with the theory that state no loading screen whatsoever.
Well to be fair, it has been a while since I last went into ED. But when I last went to a planet we had a transition (loading screen), between space and planet. That could well have changed, I look forward to it, if it has, next time I play.
NPC's, well more for actual human size, game wise, content. I like to see other characters in-game, I prefer NPC's to look at, than human players. At least you tend to know what an NPC will do. But ED introduced transporting people, do you not think it would have been nice to see those people getting on your ship.. I would like to see them. As of now, they're a box, well not even that, we don't get to see anything, concerning that side of the game.
The scale, for me, has yet to be proved in ED. Its very easy to say, this ship is this large when you don't have a character stood next to it, one that you can move around and walk onto your ship and interact with it. I said in the post, FD said all this was going to come, eventually, but it isn't there yet, so we can't brag, until it arrives. That is all I was saying.
Plus, as said in the post, I'll be more than happy when this happens. Because it proves all my doubts are wrong. Until then, I'm sorry, but its just not happening for me, scale wise, in ED.
has that been proven? here I'm also still wondering can you even get smashed by orbiting space objects while your ship float in real space, most practical example would be testing your ship by floating it on the path of that infamous mitterand hollow moon.Emmm....afraid to triggering offtopic, but you are wrong...that's nothing to do with loading screen. Supercruise is different mode of transportation, for which different rules of interaction with objects applies.
I don't know if you can hit station, it is so tiny comparing to all space around it and involved speeds, but I know you can see it for very very split second if you fly close enough at very low SC speed.
As I said it is all Level Of Detail mechanisms, loading and unloading assets as you go. Actual limits for game is set by meta level - how it works. CIG can't create almost indefinite level...FD kinda can.
