Star Citizen Thread v6

There were, or all those debates a year or so back regarding how they were implemented were pointless.:O
Not saying they haven't changed things, but there were loading screens, well everywhere really.

You are not understanding what is being said at all, and declaring that you must be right because people talked about something.

The loading screens were always there, yes, but they were always a choice for intra-system travel. Yes, you obviously need to load a new system, but once in the system you do not ever have to see an instance (not an asset) loading screen. Let me break this down for you easily, and by the way it's been like this since the launch of horizons:

Your assumption: Dropping out of supercruise/going into super cruise is a "loading screen".
Truth: It's loading the instance and attempting to connect to players, then changing the travel method accordingly. In solo, it's still connecting to the server for other BGS data, probably, and changing the travel method. It's not loading the assets, the game world, or anything that is normally done in a traditional loading screen.

Your assumption: Hyperspace is a loading screen.
Truth: This is a correct assumption.

Your assumption: You need to see all these loading screens.
Truth: False for intra system travel, you can travel to anywhere in normal space. Station to surface, surface to other surface. The only thing limiting you is fuel and time. Only one of these can be mitigated. There's a video of someone traveling from a moon to a surface in 100% normal space. You were directly linked to it, and as far as I am aware you ignored it. If there wasn't server instancing the transitions from normal to super-cruise and back would be instantaneous just like in NMS and space engine.

As for scale, as a VR owner Elite is 100% 1:1 scale. I can get up and walk around my cockpit and everything is perfectly sized. Being in 2d increases the FOV which creates the illusion of scale being incorrect, but it is actually 100% correct.

Now, how does this relate to SC to keep this on topic? Glad you asked:

Your assumption: Star Citizen is somehow doing things differently
Truth: It's not. Or rather, it won't be when the game one day requires it. Assets will need to load in. If they load in during a 10m long hyperspace jump sequence then that's the loading screen. You'll need to connect to instances, and if that connection is masked that's still an instance loading screen because without loading this stuff you'd literally not have a game to play. To change this would require CIG to have changed the fundementals of how your computer handles memory, storage, and instructions. They haven't, because they haven't had access to your hardware.

Hmm has anyone seen the goalposts?...Maybe they are in 3.1 :/

On the Show Demo, how far have players managed to get apart and still have awareness of each other? More or less than 7km as a reference?

When he is up and walking, preferably around his ship, then I'll agree with you.

You can have a view that you can walk on water, but I wouldn`t recommend it because it defies logic and the facts as they currently stand. Which more or less makes that view a fantasy and worthless, unless of course you can actually back it up with evidence of any kind.

Oh my, i love the bit about the Dragonfly not being ready even though it was meant to be ready a month ago.

I'm guessing this is Jared not understanding things fully though. He said it was working until it got put into a system which also had physics for the Nox..... i'm guessing someone was tweaking with flight models in the planetary build and they had tested the dragonfly in an old build, so now the Dragonfly's flight model is a little borked.

Oh no, proudly talking about how they have a sale on... ugh.

Holy cow... and there will be another concept ship.

Something that has kind of just struck me watching the player models run around. After all CIG said about motion capture and making them move realistically, the models are moving around just like in any run of the mill FPS engine. Seemed practically identical to how characters move around in Ark.... and Ark doesn't exactly have the best animations for people.

It's even better if you watch the cinematics ones that they've captured - they're all hilariously hammed up and overacted motions - "Hey HEY LOOK AT MOI and my bad self walking along carefree swinging my arms SO much" etc

I have a new favourite for motion captured stuff - http://store.steampowered.com/app/414340/Hellblade_Senuas_Sacrifice/ (last trailer especially, it's gutwrenching) - not played yet but look at that face and the acting that's carried through. And CR has to better that to achieve what he was just promising moments ago in that interview....

CR on the interview:

"What is version 1.0 of SC? Just now you can download 2.6.3!!"

He actually said that. Sheesh.

No SQ42 trailer on this Gamescon confirmed.

Whats the reason for SQ42 no-show?
Blockers seem to be animations in general. They are using and trying to implement around 100 days of motion capture into the game. They are still working on assets but missions and chapters are a done deal. They can already play SQ42 from start to finish (presumably on an "internal build" because he doesnt state where). He refuses to give a timeline because last year when he did that people were nasty to him and he doesnt want people being nasty to him. Oh also AI is one of the big blockers for SQ42 because of the sim-like nature of AIs (why this is important for SQ42 I cannot say, I mean do I really need to know what the janitor does all day and be able to confirm it by following him around in an epic single-player campaign?).

ROFL the interviewer just said...I kid you not.....after a 5 minute response from Chris Roberts "Okay to sum this up even tho in the end it wasnt all that much after all" LOL

"How would Chris Roberts play Star Citizen"?

THE ROFL MOMENTS KEEP COMING..I cant breath [haha][haha][haha]

But to answer the question he would play it on a curved screen with a combination of M+K (for First person play) and HOTAS (for flight). Oh I d LOVE to see another take on that year-old fiasco :)

This is where it gets difficult. If you can't accept I have a different view, then its pointless to go on. I like all the games I own, I wouldn't back or buy them if I didn't. I still like SC, but have my doubts on the end result, that's all. I like ED, well I've mentioned in other posts many games I like, yes Space Engineers is one of them too.

But getting it over to you would be hard. Its like you telling me Arma 3 is better than Arma 2.. Just ain't happening.
But that is because we are passionate about certain games. Nothing wrong with that.

But we can all have a view. That is what forums are about. :)

That is your view, so be it. It isn't mine however. ;)

You really don't get the point of "evidence", right?
It's not a matter of "view", it's a simplt fact. This is not an art exhibition, it's not about your favourite color... Ah, whaterver- as I said before you're just yaddayadda. Welcome to ignoreland! :) Ciao!

Yeah, Senua is something else. Amazing to think that the person playing that character had never done any acting and would practically avoid it at any cost. Great dev diary here for how their video editor became Senua https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFhzVtHwJjA Well worth a watch.

LOL, the chutzpah of this guy... but then I suppose we shouldn't be surprised, this is the man that delivers nothing and still has the cheek to try and hawk $750 jpegs at his conventions.
