No SQ42 trailer on this Gamescon confirmed.

Whats the reason for SQ42 no-show?
Blockers seem to be animations in general. They are using and trying to implement around 100 days of motion capture into the game. They are still working on assets but missions and chapters are a done deal. They can already play SQ42 from start to finish (presumably on an "internal build" because he doesnt state where). He refuses to give a timeline because last year when he did that people were nasty to him and he doesnt want people being nasty to him. Oh also AI is one of the big blockers for SQ42 because of the sim-like nature of AIs (why this is important for SQ42 I cannot say, I mean do I really need to know what the janitor does all day and be able to confirm it by following him around in an epic single-player campaign?).

ROFL the interviewer just said...I kid you not.....after a 5 minute response from Chris Roberts "Okay to sum this up even tho in the end it wasnt all that much after all" LOL

"How would Chris Roberts play Star Citizen"?

THE ROFL MOMENTS KEEP COMING..I cant breath [haha][haha][haha]

But to answer the question he would play it on a curved screen with a combination of M+K (for First person play) and HOTAS (for flight). Oh I d LOVE to see another take on that year-old fiasco :)
they admitted why, because they want to use the same AI for both the PU and the SP... in some ways it make sense, why build separate AI when you can use one for both? but alas since the PU is over bloated with features that the AI must handle somehow, then it also overly complicated to be implemented in the SP.

There were, or all those debates a year or so back regarding how they were implemented were pointless.:O

infact they where pointless, but you can't argue with someone that had made up their decisions and think he is right and every one else is wrong.
in Ed there are no loading screen exept for the Jump from one system to another.
The time needed to quit form supercruise is not to load assets but to create an instance, since it is a multiplayer game.

but I am sure it makes no difference to you.

Arr some have complained and asked the mods to step in. So best leave it there. ;)

On topic. I do hope SC succeeds, its been what, 4-5yrs since first touted. So it should be worth waiting for if they get to release it.
ED has been developing over a similar period and I hope that succeeds too. :D

I honestly cant believe they will have a line in front of mission givers. Does that even count as game design or is that firmly in the 'crap, didnt think of that' category?! What immersion and fidelity. :(

Who said I'm the winner, that is you declaring if anyone. I'm stating my opinion, that's all.
Opinions differ, mine differs from yours, just one of those things..

Planets are tiny in SE too, although I have run an earth size planet in there. But yes planets are smaller in SE (mainly for players with pc limitations), not sure about SC. But there again, smaller compared to what. Compared to a planet that we can't tell the size of, as in ED.
Size of character in-game will give size of ship, buildings, mines etc. That is just my view, your view is different, that's fine.

Except that opinions can be, you know, wrong. You can tell the size of planets in ED, that is a fact. You know you have a speed-o-meter on your srv? Guess how many seconds it take to travel 100m when you go 1m/s? Guess how far you have been driving after 10 seconds if you drive 10m/s?

As mentioned, you dont NEED to do it that way if you, you know, just launch the game and *look*. But if you somehow were visibly unable to see the dude sitting there because you forgot to bind the camera suit, you can still clearly measure the scale. People have driven around tiny planets and the scale is correct. People have flown to nearby moons in 'real space' and the scale is correct. People have driven around ships and the scale is correct. Its cool you like SE, i have it in steam too. But please stop arguing about scale in ED as if it is some kind of 'opinion' thing.

Its also useful to understand when discussing the size of SC planets and scale. ;)

CR on the interview:

"What is version 1.0 of SC? Just now you can download 2.6.3!!"

He actually said that. Sheesh.

It sounds incredibly cheeky to sane people, but this stuff will become more and more frequent as the cult has to be prepared for the mvp. :)

*waves hands*
"There is no delay, you have been playing the game for years already!"

He pretty much said that too.

Just tuned into the twitch stream to hear that people will have to queue to sit-down with the mission giver and talk to him.
Yes. Actually form a line and patiently queue up. One at a time. For however long it takes to get lucky and grab the empty seat across from him.
:O

I remember posting about this in this very thread last year. That sounds like very poor design.

I'm just gonna sit there staring at him. Let the queue form!

I don't think I've ever been in a multiplayer/MMO game where a mission giver is not instanced to the player directly, and another player would be able to block them out. Anyone have any examples? I wouldn't have thought anyone would have gone with such a stupid design through to release.
I'm almost sure that even World of Warcraft had this with some Quest Givers, that was one of the reasons many times with a just released patch or expansion you could see many players spamming clicks on the same NPC to open the quest dialog. And I'm almost sure too that you have maybe 20-30 secs to answer the NPC.

But I have no proof so is just my memory of the past.
Yes, but what if a player draws his space-pistol and shoots Mission-Giver Miles Eckhardt stone-cold dead? Will that be an end to all his missions? Or will CIG book more studio time to mo-cap Miles Eckhardt Junior, picking up in the mission-giving profession where his poor dead daddy left off?

Or will there be limits to the verisimilitude?
I supposed most of these NPCs will be in "secure areas" and that in case you kill one, it may respawn ina few secs or another NPC may take his role as a quest giver.

Just my opinion, nothing else.
Thank you Rolan, very appreciated. I d be interested in how you judge the given description compared to the actual footage available from the GC. I m asking because theres a massive difference between what this dude describes and what I can see for myself and I wonder if its me and I somehow transformed into a hater without noticing. PMs work as well /cheers

What that guy describes can be perfectly correct, int he end what we watch is just what they want us to see(more or less :p), that's one of the reasons I don't like to give my opinion about games and similar stuff until i have a chance to play it. This version of 3.0 looks good, but nothing that big of a change from the last GamesCom really... and without NPCs, AI, QT and other stuff... there is not much else to say, the planet look god, the vehicles well... are ok I supposed, weapons yeah whatever, ships ...meh I don't really care that much about them, the details and the buildings look very good. But in the end until I can play the actual full build of 3.0 with the moons, AI, Quest, explore the planet and such... I can't really say much else.

You may be asking me about other things so please tell me beacuse I have a amazing big headache and I may be missreading what you want, so sorry :(

Actually, in WOW anyone could click on an NPC at any time, no one needed to queue for it. HOWEVER, they could be flooded by people making the clicking difficult. The real issue is the quest items/kills you needed which were not instanced. Getting and turning in the quests wasn't the issue, it was just doing the quests.

This is in contrast with SC which seems to be having a queue at the quest giver as well, though we don't know how SC will habndle quest objects/npcs/things to kill. Will they be instanced or will they be shared as well, because that will further compound the problem.

I missed the last 20 minutes or so of the stream as I got called away on a job. What did I miss?

EDIT: Never mind, just watching the VOD.

To be honest its not that jarring as it could be, pretty sure I saw same stuff on few of our space balls.

maybe it's not exactly jarring- but SC denigrating ED planetary generation say they are all the same (blatantly false, in every possible way) and then SC has planets cookie-cut all over the place...
Teh irony is stronk.

I don't think this was always how it was with every quest giver...

Kill every other person in the queue and problem solved!

about stations in SC
Annoying isn't it :( Sure the engine could handle it too, one of the things I'd love to see addressed
And the stuff they are showing off... Well just go play crisis flying mission and your good, or better, it has lush flora , cool fights, aliens, AI, and some gameplay!
It amazes me that they make the claims they do when Crysis screenies are very easily available on the web to anyone and clearly a million miles away from what SC is churning out

CR Interview live summary

Interview finished now:

  • NOT showing Sq42 at gamescom, BUT work is coming along nicely according to Chris. "The wait will be worth it"
  • CR is very exited for planet tech, but admits it has made development take longer. Says its worth it though
  • Again confirming no SQ42 showing at GC
  • They want animations and AI to look and move as if it was a prerendered cinematic. 1 of the things holding SQ42 back. They basicly want movie quality
  • "Final assets" need work for sq42
  • Their AI is also very challenging to do. Very complex behaviour
  • All AI and missions in SQ42 and 3.0 are all running in subsumption. Good sign IMO
  • "Don't want to spoil the demo for friday, but it's pretty cool"
  • "The time we stop adding stuff and making the game better, is the point where the game dies as an online game" Although he still wants to get to a point where they add onto something, and not building the base for it

Erin Roberts Q&A Overview
Here's everything that was of interest from Erin Robert's Q&A:

  • 3.0's player count will be at least "what we have now" (I assume he means 24 and not 12 like in the current 3.0 demo)
  • There will be a 12km station in SQ42. It's going to have an important role in the story. I think it's already been made.
  • When asked about the 600i they all laughed and looked at each other, then skipped over the question. Looks like that's going to be announced tomorrow.
  • The ships team has been making ships like mad. It seemed like he was hinting that the 600i + some others will be in 3.0. That seems to tie in with this: New ships Instagram teaser
  • Mining will not be in 3.0, but will be the next feature in the game after cargo.
  • Proper persistence will be in 3.0. Where you logout is where you will spawn back in.
  • You can set your respawn point. I imagine you go to the location and then it will be an option when talking to an NPC or something so you can't just teleport across the system.
  • Complete network rework for 3.0. They're in the process of converting the gameplay systems over to make it all work.
  • Seems like 2.6.3 had a memory leak which made the server performance degrade over time.
  • You can 'link' quantum drive in 3.0, meaning that you can quantum travel with your friends.
  • The more expensive the ship, the longer wait time for insurance
  • You can buy ships in 3.0 (Not 3.0, but possibly 3.1) with aUEC.
If I've missed something or made a mistake, please comment it and I'll add it. Overall we got quite a bit of information out of that.
EDITS:

  • They working on min of 30 server ticks for 3.0 (/u/STARMEDIC_HQ)
  • When asked about solo-piloting an Idris, Erin replied "Of course you can fly an Idris by your own, but you cannot fully operate it by your own. The Idris is therefore made for groups. Also it would be good to perform drills with your group to be effective in live action." (/u/fr4nticstar)
