A Thargoid attack could be imminent - GalNet

I look forward to the highly interesting random interdictions and reskinned CZs that will ensue...

Hehe yep. And don't forget you'll likely be able to exit instance then reenter instance to have endless, repeatable predictable fun! OR the RNG gods will be scripted to be unkind to most players allowing some to see the reskinned stuff right away while others will only read about them here or on Reddit. Oh, and likely expect "new" interdictions that are the same as they are today but with new NPCs... err, sorry, aliens. Yeah for cut'n'paste! (Okay, the "new" interdictions may very be scripted to occur only during jumps and not in SC - if so they'll likely be totally one-sided, forced gameplay actions. Can't wait...)

But seriously now, if anyone thinks this release will bring any new mechanics and not be simply a reskin of existing mechanics then, well, I guess I feel sorry for you.

OP: if imminent is from FDev's perspective remember to them one season = two calendar years so I would expect imminent = eventually.

Until someone figures out how to counter the Thargoid EMP effect, you're still a sitting duck whether you fly an 8000MJ Cutter or a shieldless Hauler.

Which is what makes me hope we won't just have to kill them but interact with them. Perhaps even cooperate in order to achieve some inter species goal.

Which will appear in a direct message rather than a cuniform hologram only visible in the light of a white star from 350kls away.

Sounds like the Thargoids will be opt in. I'm desperately hoping it's more than reskinned CZs and missions.

But it gives those who are unwilling to change playstyle or not capable of the challenge a chance to remain with their rose colored glasses on as they tottle about.

I hope the Thargoids are mean.

Wars waging as the Thargoid come into the fringe of the bubble would give CMDRs opt in/out gameplay.

Missions to evacuate settlements from systems in utter turmoil where the BGS is reflecting the apocalypse unfolding in the area would be interesting. Along with CMDRs under taking fighter escort missions for convoys from Capital ships offering cover at these locations. CMDRs in ships escorting ships in/out of the system (eg: through asteroid fields) could be engaging, especially working together with other CMDRs, or indeed even with NPC wingmen (giving simple commands such as attack this, defend that). Defending damaged vessels under assault while repair ships shuttle in supplies could be nice for CMDRs in fighters or other ships...

...But this of cause would all have required these sorts of "tools" to have been added over the past 1-2 years so they were ready in place for the game to then leverage for the first time, the only first time, CMDRs encounter aggressive aliens...

BUT, we've not had such investment put in the game (it would seem), so instead we have CQC, The Engineers, passenger missions, Multi-Crew and sun glasses to use to make the best of the approaching event...

Going to be interesting to see what 2.4 offers... I do hope it's not just light weight gameplay under the guise of story heavy "stuff"... And more cryptic paper chases around systems...

All I know is I will be watching my scanners in supercruise. We haven't seen how they move through SC yet, but I wager they are faster and more agile than any ship humans currently have available commercially.

We are yet to see any effect from conventional or modified weapons, we can't escape them through hyperspace and our current tech can't track their wake. We only have seen the lone ships so far, but they could hunt in wings or even fleets. If one of these ships appeared in a populated system, could system defence forces hold it off? Maybe with help from commanders, but how would we fare against a wing of these suckers? If a fleet of 'goid ships took a system and started harvesting the stations, humans and all, would we be able to take it back?

Don't underestimate the bugs, "civilised" space as we know it could be in a bit of strife here.

Good luck, and fly safe commanders o7

It's not really that complex for FDev to keep everybody but the zealots (on both sides) happy:

Bring Thargoids out of Col 70 up to and around Maia.
Open up Col 70 to Cmdrs
Make the Thargs around Maia be around the current Dangerous NPC strength.
Increase the Thargoid difficulty and ship size as you travel deeper into Col 70, beyond current Elite level, up to the 2.1 beta difficulty and beyond.

Then people can dip themselves in until it's as hot as they like it or avoid it entirely.

They could then move the border zone whenever they felt like it, giving time for people to adjust and relocate as necessary.

Agreed!

I have yet to see them, or even find out where/how to get UAs to "provoke" them. :\

I can't help but think without the forums, I'd never get anywhere.

They could even use GalNet for something useful and have an 'Alien Incursion' report which lists the systems where Thargoids have been spotted - so you know where to look/avoid.

i think it's time for me to finally visit one of those sites, before they become infested, then destroyed and littered with waste. never underestimate sapiens apes!

If the Thargoids are to be truly believed, then hurt is gonna come, or should come, even for the most hardened in this game.. those at the top of their game should buckle. Those below should crumble.. a reset of all of what we know now and have built up over the last few years... time for reflection and change..

Things got mixed up here..

It should be writing " Human attack on thargoid could be imminent"

I don't know what you mean.

I think the "imminent attack" is more than likely greatly exaggerated and nothing Sol shaking is going to happen anytime soon. Im sure it will be a slow buildup (over the next few months) to whatever is going to take place. I dont expect to die or run for cover as soon as 2.4 hits the servers. I expect to keep on doing what I am doing without any worries with the exception of preparing for the future events. Im thinking we will be getting some new engineers and blueprints in the near future to prepare for our coming fate whatever that may be. In fact, if there is a "war", Im betting on around Christmas time when everyone is off to see anything really exciting happening. That seems about right to me. 4 months to get prepared for whats coming. But if you dont hear from me after 2.4, I was wrong and I died. ;)
