First VR experience. Oh my ...

When I want to express to someone how amazing playing Elite is in VR, I say....

"There's nothing I can say to you that will do justice to the experience, whatever you are expecting, multiply it by ten, and you are still not even close." People universally agreed so far.

Download Apollo 11 VR experience. It makes me sob everytime :D

Glad to hear someone else say that, I've had several people in tears with this one. I don't know what it is exactly but that first moment when you go into orbit around our planet ... it's powerful stuff.

Also recommended in-between heavy bouts of Elite: Dangerous ...

Lone Echo (which is the single best Oculus Touch game out there, just stunning), Robo Recall which is the most action packed fun you can possibly have in VR and Google Earth VR which is truly amazing. Oh, and I also really like Tilt Brush. Apart from Lone Echo these are all free too!

I find parking my Eagle 10 m under the big ring of an Oculus station and just sitting close up watching that big wheel churn by through that big canopy gives an impressive VR experience and shows just how big and massive those stations are. There's even a low background rumble adding to the impression.

Welcome aboard guys. You've only just begun. For further mind bending, I recommend Lone Echo, The Climb, Doom 3 BFG Fully Possessed mod (awesome), Alien Isolation (new vr mod is excellent), Dirt Rally, Assetto Corsa, DCS World, Battle of Stalingrad, Mount Wingsuit (if you have the stomach), Sports Bar VR, The Golf Club VR and much more. It is a great time to be a gamer.

Had mine 2 weeks now, absolutley loving it, totally new game:) I couldn't get over the size of the letter box in the stations, flew in with the Anaconda, it's HUGE !! It makes you realise that the game is totally made for VR.

I'm buying ships now just to get a look at the bridges, and I gotta say, the Clipper has a nice bridge, and on the other end of the scale, the Viper III looks like a war machine in the cockpit, bare, basic and a very military, used look. I thought I bought it new, but it is obviously used and refurbished, probably new motor and mileage wiped from the clock[big grin]

Driving on planets takes some getting used to, I still get dizzy, but I'm hoping that will wear off.

Happy flying, o7

Picked my new rift today. Had to get a dvi to hdmi cable which is a pain because it doesn't seem to support my ultra wide screen resolution.

Faffed around after that to get the whole thing working but then, it worked. And how. I'm sat here now typing this after simply launching, watching the station spin around and docking again which made me realise just how big everything is! Suddenly reality feels like virtual reality, I'm still trying to get my balance back!

It's going to take some getting used to but seriously, I've never experienced anything like it.

I may be late to the party, but wow, it's quite some party.

That's how I felt back in December! Welcome to the club!

Just adding my 2 pence in, Virgin Occy Rift user here.

I've just got back home from playing Elite at a mates on O.R. Amazing. As other's have said, it's impossible to put into words the experience of Elite in VR. It's like trying to explain what sound is like to a permadeaf person.

The sheer sense of scale is incredible. Standing next to an Eagle, you get to see how huge the ship is! Even the Sidewinder seems big. I can only imagine how massive the T9, Annie, Cutter and Vette are going to feel.

I didnt have any problems with nausea, though I did start to feel a bit odd when I played Dirt Rally. I imagine I might initially struggle with an SRV.

Just asking the Mrs' permission to get one, fingers crossed...

EDIT - permission granted! Amazon here we come!

If you want to take the sense of scale to the next level, park there and then go into the vanity camera mode and zoom out 3km.

VR has literally ruined pc gaming for me. Elite, Project Cars and Alien Isolation are the culprits. I have struggled to enjoy a game on my monitor ever since. It just feels so hollow. :(

Also, in the SRV training mission, try parking right next to the ship then stand up out of your chair and look up at the ship. Getting up with put you outside the screen and it with feels like you're actually standing there and, what with being so close, the enormity of the ship will be even more apparent.

Yupp, that one is absolutely breathtaking! As far as gaming goes, Elite and Dirt Rally is the two best implementations of VR ive tried, but for an experience nothing so far beats Apollo 11.
Alien Isolation would have a word with you.

people say that about the 2d scale of things, and they are right about this.
No they are not. We're simply missing "space legs" to understand the scale because of lack of familiar visual cues... Here, watch this vid - these are taken from the game files and recreated in unreal engine:

Welcome! Welcome!

If you want to take it even further in the future, I can personally recommend these three feedback devices which link into your audio channels:

Kor-fx vest (Front left and right)
Subpac M2 (Centre, Sub)
Subpac S2 (Rear left and right).

You can actually 'feel' the game when using those! I'd say the M2 is the best but it's the most expensive, Kor-fx is about 1/3 of the price of the subpacs but it has less intensity.

Hope that helps even more :)

Also consider 'Butt Kicker gamer2'. same sort of thing but attaches to your chair and is MUCHO cheaper.

Almost right from my mouth, but iRacing instead of Project Cars!

Welcome to the VR club! Had my Vive coming on two months. Don't regret a thing. As a Rift owner, do yourself a favour and get RoboRecall.. ;)

I read that Live For Speed is good too.
