The Spacelegs(TM) gameplay mechanic discussion club thread!

As long as it done WAY after version 3 I would enjoy this (version 4 perhaps....we need existing features developed and finished first! CQC, powerplay, trading, exploration etc)

I would like to explore my ship first. Walk about my anaconda whilst 35k away from the bubble, hopefully get devoured by an amorphous slime monster that invaded my ship when I visited that abandoned mining colony (seriously....not wise to visit those...) After that I would like to walk around stations. And after that, towards the end of version 4, they give us lasers and let us run around outposts fighting aliens DOOM style.

Honestly my bar for 'good enough' is anything that's not just a new way to do the same things, but slower.

Tho I'll take the ability to jump off your ship HALO style

We've already covered so so many of my favourite things I want elite to grain through legs, however there is still quite a few:
- zero G sports (a la echo arena or paintball in space), might seem lame and dorky but seriously fun once you "get over yourself"
-Social areas to interact with NPC's
+ recruit specialist crew (soldiers, engineers, pilots, medics, scientists, navigators, SRV Drivers, Miners etc)
+ gathering intel as a PI
+ explore stations habitation zones
< make friends and allies / get mugged
< become a local gangster / dealer / enforcer / cop - own your home ports corridors
- private members clubs to access powerful figures, indulge your megalomaniac aspirations by invitation only...
+ bribe a senior cop to erradicate bounties on you,
+ bribe generals to back off a CZ - more money spent = less opposition encountered
+ listen to admirals ranting about an upcoming offensive, save the intel and sell it to the opposite faction
+ lobby politicians to change laws, outlaw or deprohibit certain goods to suit your or your clients interests
- when you have sufficient "Security clearance" be invited to the wardroom / board room of of a BGS faction to contribute to their strategy
+ pick procedurally generated narrative "missions" to fly / lead a wing of that factions NPC's in by means of wingman commands
+ use the intel in the ops centre to identify trade opportunities that suit the factions interests (they are a refinery economy, find a nearby productive extraction economy to buy resources and a nearby industrial one to sell metals to)
< and take part in that trading as either an escort or as a space trucker / trader with
< optional npc escorts / convoy
- Find a video arcade, or walk to my commanders cabin on my ship and hook into the holofac games system and play other mini/metagames, (CQC-Arena, driving / shooting / sport - for example Jameson SRV Rally, Medal of Duty 3304 - thargoid incursion & Astra Hover Hockey) while I wait on: my ship arriving, BGS cycle ticking, powerplay tick over, mission target NPC to get there , my ship doing something time consuming in supercruise such as escaping a gas giants gravity well / travelling 300,000 L/s /
- see above except onboard another ship where helm duties are merely as auto/npc/co-pilots are on watch or have the helm
- see above except not games playing wolf of wall street galaxy scale, scouring news feeds / making / managing my investments
- go to engineering scan that haulage mission's cargo / decrypt the data packet make sure I'm not a smuggling patsy smuggling narcotics and weapons labeled as scientific equipment for example

and as a parting shot since we are on the topic of legs, it would be rude not to reference that rock classic that is as old as me and shares its name with this thread, ladies and gentlemen let me reintroduce you toZZTop and their classic rock anthem, legs....

Great ideas!

Well, except for space farming - not even interested in that (and not tempted to buy Farming Simulator either :p )

To begin with; as an alternative to the AFMU

IVA to go to the various subsystems and repair them using Materials if you do not have an AMFU
Just requires ships to have a layout of modules and models for them, which we have seen the start of the latter in the outfitting screen.

Why would one use this in place of the AMFU?

1) One can repair an AMFU, so the need for two would be mitigated if you are happy to self repair
2) One can power down your ships power plant to action repairs to it.

That could be fun with oculus touch. Using your hands to grab wires and monkey with stuff ALA Han/Chewie fixing the falcon...

I hope that if and when we get legs and combat it will be more Arma style than DOOM style. By that I mean movement should be based in reality not super fast moving jumping around.

I mean, sometimes it's nice to just stretch your legs and have a walk around a bit... Walking around a station, seeing ships dock, having a pint in Jaques Bar; those sort of things.

Is that what they call "immersion?" Hmm, maybe.

Been playing prey for a few days now, and floating around the station and repairing stuff, getting access to closed chambers and looting dead corpses is very rewarding :) so there is a lot that can be done around stations/wreaks.

What I really, really want to see in ED is wrecks. All ships going boom feels...unrealistic. Some of them will of course.

With wrecked or heavily damaged ships such EVA could be done:
* Observe and identify place required repair (repair can be done by drones, but human observation and decision making is requested);
* Audit of wrecked NPC ships for discoveries, acquiring info, etc. perfect for missions and moment-to-moment gameplay;
* Recovering bodies of dead or injured people;

Outside wrecks
* Boarding to take over the ship;
* Additional passenger satisfaction with fulfilling their tasks;

My design document for Elite Feet is:-

Load up GTAIII+

Like that but with space ships! And with zero g stuff from Dead Space.

Whilst respecting the OP asking for constructive discussion only I must point out that turning ED into GTA in space is exactly what I fear the most from legs and is the principle reason for my opposition.

Consequences free gameplay and just fooling around without any continuous gameplay...yeah, really not looking forward to that.

Look, you don't actually *have* to kill hookers in...

<Sigh>

Would you prefer Operation Flashpoint in space?

Really I mean if you load up the test island in Battlefield 4 and consider the feel of that is how I think space legs should function.

I loved Operation Flashpoint. But no, not that either. GTA is fun but isn't what ED is about. I don't want to sidetrack this very constructive thread so that's all I'll say.

Just to add an additional layer of inmersion, maybe could be implemented, simply some missions (Horizons, hack bases) change the mechanics, now the hacking points are protected on buildings and you must go in there on foot.

Also the Bar/Social area on stations, maybe a park (big area) and the bar (in front of park)

Have already posted this idea before but will say it again: you land on a planet, do a bit of an explore in your SRV, come back and take off. At some point, your on board computer says "unknown lifeform detected on board" or something similar. You then have to find said lifeform and deal with it (containing it in the hold of it is benign and seeking for research purposes) or killing/spacing it if it is aggressive.

Something else I would like to see is being able to search planetary settlements, maybe acquiring blueprints to be traded with engineers for enhanced mods, etc.
