OMG - Thargoid Cinematic was ACE!

I was playing in the CG with my rift on and listening to the livestream when I heard the cinematic short start. I took time out of VR to watch it from the start with headphones on. OMG! - it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end.
Very good movie short. Well done.

We just got an official lore summary from Ed, can't remember him mentioning 2 races, only an apparent covert operation that leaded to the retreat of unknown ships called Thargoids.

Am i wrong ?

No, two races are not currently canon (though that might be something they do in future, we just don't know yet). They were from the original Elite '84 version, but there was a lot of sentient aliens in that, it was a lot more like Star Trek. In that (or rather the accompanying short story) there was reference to different Thargoid races. That's been adopted as fanon since, and now a lot of people think it's real.

I wonder if the fact that we saw avatars talking in this cinematic means anything in terms of getting in-game cutscene content to advance story. Could the same tech be used to display animated character portraits for mission briefings? etc.

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!

I NEED TO BE KILLED BY THAT THING IMMEDIATELY!

Shame my Corvette won't be ready. :(

Oh well, my FDL has never been blown up. That can go first. :D

And also, as I suspected, I shall meet the aliens for the first time, after 2.4...

No original hyperdiction for me. :(
Unless I spend the next 2 weeks in the Pleiades jumping around in circles. Lol

Epic trailer BTW. :)

I think that people are going to be calling for text-2-speech from NPCs and for Holo-me head tracking and mouth tracking via IR cameras for player speech and expression.

That was too awesome to not be a future feature of the game! (At some point when spacelegs happens, you know after they buff the core gameplay).

They could start right now by letting you place your (npc) crewmen at any empty seat. Still a bit baffled by that neglect. Video was great tho!

They are canon as they are referenced in premonition which is an official novel

Heh, I kind of get a vibe somebody on the production team may have been trying to lobby for a stylistic, matrix-esque sudden slowdown, the moment the thargons turn, after shooting out of the interceptor. :7

I'm not sure, actually. Some of the licenced books have gone into not insignificant detail on the matter, and they have supposedly been subject to quite some regulation by the FDev loremasters.

Just go and read Premonition. :)

Paging all commanders
The next convoy departing Mars high will be calling at colonia, Sgr A*, and Beagle point (where we intend to hide behind the 3rd rock on the left)

Somebody's gotta fire the first shot, man. Humans are totally reactionary.

Oh totally mate, I always knew we'd be taking the 'eat it/fight it/frak it' approach to galactic diplomacy. Kirk style.

It would be more interesting if we had more nuanced options, in my opinion at least, but I'm realistic enough to know that in a game where after three years the sum total of the exploration mechanics (for example) still consists of buying a scanner, selecting a planet and pointing my ship at it, it was a fairly forlorn hope. :D

Deliver 728 tons of Animal Meat to Coriolis: 30.5M CR

Or in the case of running missions for Thargoids: Collect 728 tons of animal meat from Coriolis...

How long do you think it'll be before the Thargoids hit the forums to complain about griefers making open unplayable?

No doubt someone will tell them to go and cry in a private hivemind.

This is Palin in the Vette, isn't he?

I thought so. See this is what Quince does, he was in a T-7 last time I saw him :D
