OMG - Thargoid Cinematic was ACE!

Signature is relevant. :p
Also, WHY OH WHY did they STOP firing? If I see someone I just shot in the frakking back turning and healing, I'D GORRAM KEEP ON SHOOTING UNTIL IT GOES "CLICK"!

It's the Federation, they are very good at shooting things in the back. If you want a professional though, Empire. Every time. We have standards. ;)

Yep, once you fire the weapons your aim must be to kill the opponent. You pretty much need to turn the scientist off for the remained of the battle at that point!

In addition, the thing it was thinking was, how is it just now news to them that the ships are organic and they just might be able to repair themselves? They've know that all the artifacts and barnacles are life forms for a long time.

They should have make a comment like it's repairing itself THAT FAST?

Now's a good time for humans to find some space whales to ride and/or some guns which fire sharknados! ;) Maybe we'll see anti-Thargon chainsaw mounts for our ships?

Don't be too hard on the federal expedition. They winced during the EMP blast; so I think they know what they signed up were conscripted for. Also Fed's aren't the sharpest; it is just like them to shoot in the back though. ;)

Yeah, look you shoot at the thing you sort of don't expect it to kind of be a space wolverine, get back up, dust itself off and heal right in front of you to be fair; not unless we're talking a *lot* of onionhead taken, first. Then that's pretty normal. Otherwise? Oh shi-.

I think the look of panic on the lead commander pretty much said that. Sometimes, what is being said, isn't spoken. The body language was enough to read the "oh crap.." moment.

Key take away through? If it turns around. Buckle up, or find someplace else to be. They are nothing if not ruthlessly efficient.

Retaliation much? As far as the cinematic goes humans fired first.

Yep .. I'm coming to the view that it's not humanity's retaliation we're talking about here.
What for exactly? Information about Thargoid aggression is mostly unconfirmed.

So Aegis saw this a scientific experiment. Going in with the questions;
(1) test counter measures
(2) if provoked, would the Thargoid "retaliate"?
Answer; Yup.

So sayonara Veteran Commander Mason and crew. Pure cannon fodder, in explorer flightsuits.

Nice trailer, but it's just a trailer, and cinematic trailers like this one almost never, and by that I mean basically never, live up to what you get in the game. And since ED's updates have been one disappointment after another, I have basically no hope of this update being especially good.

On another note, I thought I remembered the dev's a long time ago saying something along the lines of "If we put Thargoids in the game, we won't tell you, it will be much more exciting if commanders discover them on their own." So I guess that didn't happen since we know for a fact that they're putting them in the game now, and it will surprise no one at this point.

Wonder what masslock factor those Thargoid ships have? High wake or die!

According to Premonition... Somewhere in the 40s.

Anyway, great cinematic! I really enjoyed watching it and I'm looking forward to what the Thargoids are going to bring to the table, but if I've gotta be critical (and believe me, I've gotta be critical) there was a lot in that trailer that just does not tally with the game as we will presumably find it in 2.4:

- Hair in the cockpit hanging down as if there were artificial gravity, despite us being told there's no artificial gravity in the Elite universe.
- A Wing of 5, despite us only being allowed a max of 4 in the game.
- Multi-Crew working alongside Wings, which is very much not in the game, and as I recall, something FD were vehemently against.
- Scanning for bio-signs, very soft SF concept, definitely not in the game, and not in the spirit of the game either. Would it not have been better to read it as "hull integrity" rather than "bio-signs"?
- Multi-Crew being far more interesting than it is in the game - the helm playing an actual command role rather than that of pilot (because why order evasive manoeuvres when you're the pilot? I suppose you could argue it's for the sake of the Wing, though).
- Very different HUD readout for the Thargoid Interceptor - no hull and shield data for the Helm?

I dunno, I'd be very surprised and delighted if these things actually made it into the game for us players for 2.4, but they sound like things that would definitely have been in the beta for extensive network testing (especially the Multi-Crew/Wings interplay), so I'm actually a little disappointed that the team who made the trailer didn't stick closely to what the game is actually like.

Otherwise, it stands quite well as a trailer on its own.
