An interesting placeholder for 30 minutes of game time. Now what?

I guess at some point these huge alien structures turn into alien battleships which can eat a complete planet together

*spoiler*

to destroy these battleships we have to land on it and drive the srv into the main room and place an ancient relic

One major thing that needs improvement is Galnet, this should be the equivalent off CNN/FOX/BBC/Al Jezira, all with their own bias and constant news feeds. So much that could be done to add depth, as it stands Galnet is like flicking through some low budget internet news feeds.
Yeah, I can agree with this. I think something like this should have a bigger button to see it in game (you can actually find it in game but it's a pretty small button). We also should be getting a mail when starting telling us about Gal-net and how it can inform us about things like the Thargoids for example. Maybe even have it mentioned in the tutorials or something. /shrug.

Last I looked there was nothing new in there anyway... has it changed since lunch time?

My worry is the quality of the narrative. Anyone who has done GCSE English knows that if you are writing a narrative it needs a juicy hook to pull people in at the start...something exciting and jaw dropping.

If 2.4 was a book I would have quit reading after the first page.

I love these posts that are like "uhn wat this is it? This game is boring" completely ignoring (or forgetting) that FDev have said like a hundred times this is a story-driven update. You don't start a story with the climax. I think it is pretty interesting what has been revealed already with what little interaction we've had. We've got thargoids scooping up escape pods (why?), accepting certain cargo from us, we've got fields of barnacles (what and why?), the ability to take tissue samples revealing the Thargoids are bio-mechanical, and more things maybe? All that within 24 hours and all these people on here like "meh not impressed, very disappointed."

Also did these people expect the game to instantly and drastically change into a completely different game or something? I just don't get where these expectations are coming from.

I do find it funny how boring so many people claim it to be. I guess I'm just a bit too simple-minded. I'm ripe with awe. Imagine if this happened in real life? You all would be loosing your marbles if Nasa said UFOs were abducting people off the ISS, lol. I guess it's just a takeaway from my time in RPGs and the such. I get too into universes. From an Elite standpoint, this whole thing is fascinating. Then again, I was fascinated by fungal growths... So... I probably shouldn't be speaking.

Hi personally I like the fact we have nothing, FDev are doing it properly, so if we as a species stumbled across alien life, we wouldn't have anything to hurt them or defend against them.

So they are giving us stuff, once we have discovered, gathered stuff to research it. We will build defences and items over time. Like we would in real life.

I like it, I have nothing bad to say.

Wait till we see their home worlds and larger ships,

More depth is always a good thing. Personally I am pleased with what we have so far, the QoL features and general graphic tweaks have been a massive improvement for me. Didn't expect much from the Thargoids themselves, am not even convinced that these are Klaxians that we are dealing with, all my encounters have been Peaceful. This is definitely going to be a slow burner, I now have some motivation to finish off upgrading my main fleet via engineers, also making a nice amount of cash hauling thargoid tech.

My hope is that we will eventually have access to alien tech and Oresrians stations as things progress, a slow buildup in tension as opposed to typical games - 7 hours and you have seen and done everything, saved the galaxy and hooked up with the leading lady.

I don't get GalNet....I mean, hundreds prob thousands of pilots are missing, being taken by aliens moments away from stations....People are being pulled out of witch space constantly and attacked by ALIENS!... And the media apparently dosent deem it news worthy.....It just makes no sense! Having GalNet going off the rails with speculation, bias reporting, loads of conflicting stories etc etc, braking news items...Make this invasion feel real!

For the love of god FD, hire a journalism graduate who's job is solely to populate GalNet, the best changes are often in the small details, you have GalNet, start using it!

The Patch notes speak of several more content than just pop into a USS and see stuff. That´s not mysterious or the like. I like to think we have not seen the meat so far.
And it has been only day one since update and we have only seen what is on the trailers, I am not much of searcher and my time is limited. But I am sure some commanders will come with some woah stuff sooner than later.

Hire me.. I'll do it, I can write fiction with the best of them :D

I know it has been a long and delayed season but 2.4 is finally here!...... with more waiting.... and some more waiting....enough waiting to trickle thargoid content over the next year while FD fixed their game with 3.0

The worst part is that this exists in the game, but it's so underused that people don't even notice.
In a few cases we have seen that the Imperial Citizen(pro Patreus) and the Imperial Herald(Patreus sceptic) have reported the same incident very different.

We need more of this. That's for sure.

How many people actually use Galnet, or even get anything decent out of it.

This game is probably the only game where you need to go outside the game to keep up with whats going on in the game!

Crazy right!

All i can say is thank YouTube for Obsidian Ant, or I would know LITERALLY nothing about the lore or whats happening in this game.

I cannot emphasize enough, how insane and true that statement is!

Have you gone down to visit the various Alien sites, including Barnicles - see whats changed?
Tried various ways of interacting with the Thargoids?

30 minutes play, and you throw your arms up and give up!?? LOL.

You do realise, some people don't like trying X, Y and Z, and what happens if you do X with Y at Z, over and over and over. Some people actually like to play a game which is having depth added to its gameplay mechanics and content, instead of just mini-puzzle after mini-puzzle?

Now, I'm sure some folks love doing this stuff. But I'm sure for many others, it's little more than a distracting cut'scene in effect and they'd instead prefer to be simply be taking part in more involved mechanics.

Ultimately, I'm still hoping somewhere in 2.4 there's some solid new actual new gameplay mechanics with depth... but TBH I'm not very hopeful given this season's track record. God I hope I'm in for a surprise!

Yes, they are releasing 2.4 in stages and the current CG will open up weapons and scanners. I think, like LKx, that this was really overhyped. The introduction of Thargoids, from a game play perspective, is as mediocre as my interdiction by an Elite Anaconda NPC, and about as irritating if you're trying to haul cargo in the MAIA area......

They didn't work for years on this stuff, specifically the thargoids just to roll out updates months between each other. This is an evolving story but unlike the others will happen much faster.

That being said, I don't really care for the salty opinions because I'm having fun especially with friends just talking to each other about this. I don't understand why you can't just immeserse yourself and try and figures stuff out and talk to people and have fun for once instead of just taking everything literally at face value.

Well, that is if you have any kind of imaginative thought in your body. I suppose some people are opposed to having fun and actually facing some kind of challenge.

Half those people didn't even try at all. And you'd have to be blind or a salty whiner to not realize we are playing the game. Just not the same way you are.

I'm fully aware of how deeply flawed Elite is and yet I can still have fun because I talk to people, try and figure things out, and do things for fun.

Nobody is really arguing that we got a overwhelming amount of content. What they are saying is if you try working with others, use your imagination to help try and solve the mysteries, and so forth that you can find something to entertain you even if it's not shoved into your face as GAMEPLAY.

And guess what? You can be critical of things WHILE having fun. Amazing how that works.

That reads as

I dont read Galnet, why do I need to go outside of game to learn about happenings.

Which the answer would be you don't read the in game news
