Galactic News: Thargoids Adapting Rapidly

03 OCT 3303

Admiral Aden Tanner, Aegis’ chief military liaison, has released a statement confirming that the Thargoids have begun adapting to the weapons and tactics developed to combat them.

Admiral Tanner’s statement is reprinted in full below.

“Preliminary reports indicate that although the AX missiles were inflicting significant damage on the Thargoid ships’ ‘heart’ modules, they are now proving less effective. We believe this is due to the Thargoids developing a resistance to the compound carried by the missiles. I am optimistic, however, that the current Aegis initiative will produce weapons capable of overcoming this resistance.”

“Second, we have been informed that the Thargoids are now able to lock onto ships that have deployed countermeasures, although exactly how they are doing this is not yet understood.”

“Previously, Thargoid ships responded to strategic withdrawal by advancing towards the target, even when attacked with missiles. But recent reports indicate that they have started dodging such attacks, particularly when engaged at long range. Finally, the drones deployed by the Thargoid ships have become more accurate, which substantially increases the risk they present to smaller craft.”

“These developments illustrate that we are dealing with a highly intelligent enemy capable of rapidly adapting to our weapons and tactics, and underscore the importance of Aegis’ ongoing anti-Thargoid initiative.”

DON'T BELIEVF THEIR LIES. Aegis are pulling the strings here, tampering with missiles to reduce damage. Whole thing's a set up by the arms manufacturers to sell new guns every week.
I'd buy that for a dollar!

This, dear friends, is how you write lore. By far the most plausible explanation so far.

Its cool.
Its the narrative we will have more weapons to come.

Then they will have bigger ships, we will end up with more weapons again.

Let's not be down about it, we don't want it to easy. Its realistic

Yea, let's have weekly CGs that are invalidated, also weekly. Great idea.

In case you can't tell, that's sarcasm.

What Aegis "believe" is also inconsistent with current facts. The missiles are indeed less effective, but this is unrelated to Thargoid resistance. Instead, somehow Thargoids or their operatives/sympathisers have managed to affect the capability of the AX ordnance galaxy wide even those already outfitted to vessels.

All that narrative zig-zag just about one type of signal source. :S

Just let the weapon values be as they were before and let us enjoy great gameplay :)

Its funny the cg areas were quiet, everyone was more busy doing passenger missions. I guess getting improved weapons isn't a priority. I think it is, the big ones are coming we need them. Hehe arrrrr run

Well played FD! No matter why AX missiles lost impact, now it is much more credible in-game wise ... and it gives the Thargoids an even more sinister touch. Finally an AI that is not just a clay pigeon.
Of course, how that extraordinarily fast adaptability will be kept at bay in the future ... is a true storyteller's challenge.

Right. Once in 4 years they made gameplay difficulty perfect - everybody was happy, waiting more miracles and improvements. Instead they broke it after just a few days and provide this insulting intelligence .

Until ultimately, we wind up creating a Mycoid MK2 virus for an end game scenario he he...

Actually I believe, although beeing a little upset on expedition 8LKY out with a useless AX-Vette :), that this is playing in our favour.
The Oresians (I assume recent contacts have been them) give us a learning curve to develope a whole arsenal of capable weapons
over time, so if the Kalaxxians arrive we are trained and fully equipped to counter that threat. As they will not have had the experiences the Oresians
are gaining now, we should stand a good chance of making a firm stand under those circumstances.....

Thargoids "adapting", when the stats of the missile changes? They could have explained that in a better and more logical way:

"Previously warheads for the AX-Missiles were made out of the only known substance able to damage Thargoid tissue, Guardian Relicts. Guardian Relics, being part of the Guardian's communication network, contain their own extremely strong energy source lasting for countless millennia already. The energy contained inside these crystal-like objects being so vast, that it can even damage Thargoid vessels, when fired at a high enough velocities."

"However the recent spike in usage of Relics lead to a severe drain on this very finite resource. Relics are no longer available in large enough quantities. AEGIS therefore decided to use different warheads inside the AX-Missiles, as we want to preserve the last remaining Relics for future studies."

"Our new warheads are made out of a compound, closely resembling the Relics. Initial tests show that these new warheads, while being effective against Thargoids, are not yet on par with the effectiveness of Guardian Relics. Therefore we need the help of the galactic community to test out these new warheads and bring back tissue samples, so we can improve the composition of our new warheads in the future. AEGIS believes, that we are able achieve an effectiveness even higher than the previous one."

"In the long term this will also enable us to remove the limit of AX-Missile systems, previously in place to preserve Relic supplies, as well as providing larger and higher capacity AX-Missile systems and the ability to synthesize said warheads without the need of large industrial facilities."
