Elite Dangerous is dead

Even using Steam charts the game is far from dead. Personally, I do really think it's seriously underachieving, but there are still a lot more people playing than even a year ago. The Steam chart is only relevant if taken as a part of the whole, rather than the whole itself.

Those who dismiss steam stats as insignificant are clearly not familiar with the concept of polling... except with this poll you're probably talking about 50% of the playerbase. It is a useful indication of the games popularity.

Heh, I've played Lord of the Rings Online since it started 10 years ago. After the first couple of years there were continual"LOTRO is dead" threads in the forums, but it's still going. I'm planning to revisit it this winter.

Ah come on chaps.

We just had a release, patch thingy so where are all the elite dangerous is dead threads?

Anyway an info grapihc of ED share prices since the game came out might kickstart a debate
I got one of those too. :)

Well for starters, when a non disgruntled ED player originates a thread combating the idea of the game being dead, that in and of itself reveals the inner fears of that very truth, in an attempt to rally
the troops to communicate quelling of it.

This game isn't dead, but it is in the Emergency dept's ICU on life support and with every whimsical, petty adjustment to core aspects of the game that IS maintaining some measure of life / reasons for some to log in and play, they end up triggering another code blue--each and every time!

I will say though, the hill this game will thrive or die on will be in this next phase of what "THEY" determine is not only core game play but also QOL. It will be very interesting when this phase is complete for it will clearly and completely reveal if this game leaves the ICU breathing well or in a body bag. ATM, Vegas's odds are seriously not on their side.

Right now, this game is like a human laying in the emergency ICU with doctors fussing over performing hairdo's and pedicures while the vital signs are one step away from yet another code blue scenario.
So just maybe in this next phase these doctors will move from the hair and nails to internal medical procedures and bring this game, which fully deserves to not only live but thrive out of the ICU.

But, we'll see wont we.

Thanks to this new learning, we now know the earth is in fact, banana shaped

Bill

IIRC De Selby said that earth is in fact sausage shaped. Banana is close enough though.

De Selby said:
Standing at a point on the postulated spherical earth, one appears to have four main directions in which to travel, viz., north, south, east, and west. But it does not take much thought to see that there really appear to be only two since north and south are meaningless terms in relation to a spheroid and can connote motion in only one direction; so also with west and east. One can reach any point on the north-south band by travelling in either ‘direction’, the only apparent difference in the two ‘routes’ being extraneous considerations of time and distance, both already shown to be illusory. North-south is therefore one direction and east-west apparently another. Instead of four directions there are only two. It can be safely inferred that there is a further similar fallacy inherent here and that there is in fact only one possible direction properly so called, because if one leaves any point on the globe, moving and continuing to move in any ‘direction’, one ultimately reaches the point of departure again. The idea that the earth is spherical is due to the fact that human beings are continually moving in only one known direction, though convinced that they are free to move in any direction, and that this direction is really around the circular circumference of an earth which is in fact sausage-shaped. It can scarcely be contested that if multi-directionality be admitted to be a fallacy, the sphericity of the earth is another fallacy that would inevitably follow from it. The position of a human on the earth is like that of a man on a tight-wire who must continue walking along the wire or perish, being, however, free in all other respects. Movement in this restricted orbit results in the permanent hallucination known conventionally as ‘life’ with its innumerable concomitant limitations, afflictions and anomalies. If a way can be found of discovering the second direction, i.e., along the barrel of the sausage, a world of entirely new sensation and experience will be open to humanity. New and unimaginable dimensions will supersede the present order and the manifold unnecessaries of the one-directional existence will disappear.

Can't say the game is dead - it clearly isn't. I *CAN* however say the game is dead TO ME.

Right now, at this very moment, the game is "dead" to me, too. Why? Bugs in 2.4 on the PS4 that are making the game unplayable for me. However, I desperately want FDev to "resurrect" the game (ie - fix the bugs).. It feels like many people in the forum are celebrating the "death" of ED, which I just do not understand.

So while my spaceship may be parked in the hangar at the moment, I'm continuing to cheer on FDev and hope for a bright future for Elite: Dangerous. I just see too much potential in ED to walk away from it, kinda like Jon Snow :D

-- EDIT --

Just saw FX2017, and I'm definitely sticking around with hopes held high!

Omg.. its not dead. And steam stats only show people who connect through steam.

Many players don't conne t via steam.

Anyways, dead my A...s . You don't like the game p...s off and play something else.
