Never again the T-9

Well, I tried the T-9 ONCE because I wanted to deliver 500 tonnes of cargo in one go.

- Had to refuel TWICE to get there
- Poor jump range

In comparison I could have taken the Beluga for 10 more millions, FAR better jump range and TWICE the fuel tank.

Sure, i "only" squeeze in around 300 cargo but in the time the T-9 took to get there with refuelling I could have taken the Beluga there TWICE without refueling.

Sure, the T-9 has more HP and hardness but the Beluga's mass lock factor is better, not to mention the Beluga's speed.

Im sure the T-9 if engineered can be awesome but until then...no.

I took a T9 mining once.

It was a bloody deathtrap pirate magnet.

I quickly changed to an Anaconda.
All round better.

Admittedly, I haven't used a T9 since before the Engineers. Might be fun to use one now.

The Anaconda makes the Type 9 completely pointless in absolutely every single respect other than price. Yes, the Anaconda can haul, what, 20% less but in return it's faster, handles better, jump MUCH further, has a MUCH better shield rating, has 8 utility points and the power plant to power whatever fancies you, and is armed to the teeth.

In a similar configuration I can haul 400t in my Anaconda or 500t in a Type-9. Given the above why would I EVER choose to do so in a Type 9?

Sorry you had such a bad experience. The T9 needs a bit of love, but when you engineer it the thing's a wonder and it's got one of the best views of any of the ships.

Sorry you had a bad go of the T-9, its a beast when given some love. Yes it definitely needs engineering. Dirty drives and Level 5 FSD boost - 1 trip to Farseer sorts it out basically. Bin off the weapons, but mount a shield IMO - but it does have nearly 900 hull for pirates to chip at before you escape.. then boom 500 tons haulage. plus in VR its a spectacular ship :)

Guys, do you know life and pleasure aren't about optimisation ? T9 is slow, massive, poor jump range, but it provide great feelings if you like industrial design... Stop thinking about "credit by hour" and begin to find something more deep. Mining and tradin in T9 are really excellent memory for me, and i'm on the road to buy and engeneer a new one dedicated to mining, only because it's a beautiful ship :)

Lol, it's like the nonsense Achibot was typing yesterday, am convinced he must have bought and flown a stock T9. Without a doubt the ship needs configuring & engineering, minimum is a FSD mod, hull mod if you are flying shieldess. The ship has a 64 Tonne capacity fuel tank, the second largest in the game, virtually impossible to run out of fuel.

I had an already engineered FSD to use on it. Helps a lot. T9 is best used doing what it does best, short range state dependant trading. I use it for CG's as well with a fuel scoop if needed. I like it.

I'm a new Lakon Type-9 Heavy owner as well, and I'm rather enjoying the challenge of trying to surmount the Type-9's limitations. While it certainly won't be my main ship, I have a rather large stable to choose from, my thought is that the skills I develop from operating this flying brick will translate well into the Anaconda once I can afford to purchase the hull, while keeping the Type-9 for trade CGs.

T9 excels at short range (single jump) A-B-A trade routes and mining, no mods needed.

Over a short trade route, the T9 beats the Conda and destroys the Beluga. Longer routes, sure, there are better ships.

I love my cow. I agree she really needs class 5 engineering on her fsd but I will never sell her. (She is my current ship as it happens. I need to eng the shields tho. A rated class 5s with... 3 I think boosters is not enough to escape deadly FGS with SLF as I found out to my (7 million) expense.

Loaded I think she has maybe 18ly range (a guess). Not terrible imo

While the T9 is better engineered, it still doesn't compare to a Conda with the same level of engineering, let alone a cutter.

If doing a route within 18 or so LY of drop off points it can hold its own even though still slow docking due to extra cargo capacity.

As soon as it hits multiple jumps the Conda wins, particularly if still a single jump for the Conda. Quicker flight, jumping and docking means you deliver more per hour while at the same time being able to collect the bounty bonuses, often in less time than it takes to run.

I still enjoy flying the brick though, and have a single jump route where she works well. But if I'm looking to achieve a goal of high volume shipping per hour the Conda is what I use.

It's a shame but the drag factors make it less economical and profitable to use. It did help get me the creds for a Conda though.

I have a feeling t10 is code for the new hunter killer like lakon/alliance ship coming soon (was it the chieftain?) I may be wrong

The Anaconda makes pretty much every other ship in the game look "pointless" in one way or another, due to it's absurd weight.

Similar size to a 'vette, similar modules, with better armour, and only 45% of the hull mass?

Double the weight of the Anaconda to 800t and then we'll talk.

I had Type-9 for long time and it was dusty with no use of it. Finally I get some idea to use it as transport ship in Pleiades Sector, good money. NOPE! They nerf it 4 days later, lol. It's back to be pice of garbage.
