[Really Annoyed] I'm boycotting AEGIS CG's until the Thargoid fiasco gets cleared up

And here we are again with the whiteknight fanboi - you might not like the term but you sure are starting to dress like one Dbrn47.

If you want someone to read your retort, don't start with this. I play for my side, not anyone else, some things I hate (the iterative development and how long it takes to get things released), some things I like (mission improvements, upcoming core improvements), some things I don't care about (nerf/buff cycles like this change). Thanks for playing though. Good luck with your boycott. [haha]

Susanna from what I can see has been in the game for quite a while. Balance passes have come and gone and she's not had this reaction to any of them at all, so you can dismiss that particular line of accusation from the get go.

No FDev didn't intend the thargoids to be killed by mass players, or I'm guessing be soloable by the very few skilled pilots, but that's because they didn't take human nature into account.

The players did it because they could.

FDev's response was to make it harder for everyone and ensure that SOLO PLAYERS have ZERO OPTION but to wing up if they want a Thargoid kill. Forcing a content playstyle upon those players whom previously have made the conscious choice, for whatever valid reason, to ignore OPEN or GROUP play. Until 2.4 release ALL CONTENT was accessible to ALL PLAYERS and now it isn't - from the very developer that said they wanted to ensure ALL CONTENT WAS ACCESSIBLE TO ALL PLAYERS regardless of the mode they chose, this is one of the biggest reasons why Offline mode was dropped, the synchroncity of content of the three modes.

Part of this is the hypocrisy of the "inclusive / exclusive" mentality that seems to have ocurred in FDev. They create a game that allows players with legacy computers to play - and sacrifice quite a lot of graphical niceness and other such extras (if you think they didn't, go look at SC, even my 2 year old PC won't like what's coming in 3.0), and then lock out 90% of the new Thargoid content from a section of players who have made it very very very very very very (there are not enough very's in the universe) clear that they have ZERO DESIRE TO PLAY THE GAME WITH OTHER PEOPLE. AT ALL. EVER. EVER EVER. FOREVER EVER. As was made ABSOLUTELY ABUNDANTLY CRYSTAL CLEAR in the "Offlinegate" thread. (so much so that FDev had to issue more refunds than any time since, including to some of the highest donating KS backers)

Why do you and others keep saying "this was a simple balance pass" - it WAS NOT. It was a botched attempt to bring a FEW players into line who winged up in overwhelming numbers and made a mockery of FDevs new baby, and the result is that ALL PLAYERS have to pay the price.

There has never been an announcement EVER from FDev stating that OPEN and SOLO modes would have DIFFERENT CONTENT ACCESS POINTS. Which is why in powerplay systems can be flipped in SOLO despite a hundred players in OPEN.

Do you see it now????? so YES an apology is required (or at the very least an admittance that the handling of this was sub par) because SOLO players are now locked out of content or be forced to wing up (if they even can). If they had left alone, SOLO Players WOULD STILL HAVE ACCESS TO THARGOID KILLS, albeit with lots of work and an increase in skill level required, but the access point would still be available.

I personnally cannot see why SOLO kills of a Thargoid, with the right skill and setup is such an anathema to FDev. If it was easy everyone would have been doing it. I can understand that FDev didn't want a gank fest going down within the first week of content, but the correct response would have been writing more robust code that enabled a scalable retaliation by the Thargoids as has been said by me and Susanna and many many others in this thread, and more importantly have that IN PLACE before the launch of 2.4.

What would have happened then was "ooh look new weapons lets go get some Thargoid kills" 10 players wing up, they drop in "hur hur this is goign to be easy"and alpha strike the first Thargoid with the resultant "ooh look aren't we good, we're badass blah blah" and while they are busy puffing their chests and stroking their own epeens... *SURPRISE !!!* 4 Thargoids appear and tear several of them a new one, before the rest can manage to wake out with visible skid marks.

If that had been the launch of 2,4 - everyone would have been happy, even those changing thier trousers. Any arguments they might have made like "too hard" would have been met with "you took 10 people, the game responded, what did you expect?" and SOLO players would still be able to participate because 1 ship, 1 Thargoid.

If FDev were going down the path of "this weapon isn't mean to to be the final solution" you can't blame the players when it the ONLY WEAPON around at the time.

You say "it would have made no difference if it was released as .001 instead of .05 people would still complain" - and I disagree because that would have fed POSITIVELY into the whole lore of "this stuff is new, untested, so don't expect miracles" It's also a known and understood tactic. MMO's are famous for the "drip feed success" method, especially for harder content, it's EXPECTED by savvy players. Personally in WoW we took MONTHS to get our first raid completion and that was 5 hours a night EVERY NIGHT, and many nights it was a total horror show. As the gear got better it got easier, and in the end when we finally did kill Ragnoros and it was by the last 2 or three standing left out of 40, the JOY, RAPTUROUS JOY that was felt was unbeleiveable. It was FELT by all, it was DESERVED BY ALL, and by deus one of the greatest gaming experiences of my life, even though it was also by far the hardest.

Beleive me when I tell you that kind of euphoria of success, and lack thereof, is one of the biggest reasons why so many games have such a short lifespan.

This whole thing would have been smoother and less "slap in the face" if there was a situation of partial effectiveness FROM THE START, then the second weapon gets introduced and your chances of success are increased and then possibly the third weapon to kill the hearts or make it a little bit easier for VERY SKILLED SOLO PLAYERS - or wings of two or three. Once that's been around for a week or two - GRADUAL Thargoid resistance increases to said weapons and corresponding refinements to current ones available to players as another CG kicks off - or something.

Again all of which would still have been against a Thargoid threat that scaled to player numbers so if 2 wings of 4 c-operated then there would be at least 3 Thargoids so you've still got an almost 3:1 ratio, as was intended (an assumption but not a wild one by any means).

Let the pew pew eezee mode players complain it's too hard, as things progress the story would have unfolded and then, at the end they would have understood, and may even have learned what the difference is between an ordinary "play this for a few weeks then go play something else game" like so many are nowadays and what keeps players committed 3, 5, 10 or 12 years later. ED will never last as long as SC because FDEv doesn't have that mentality and CiG do.

I can't remember most of my gaming moments and I've been at it a LONG time; Aeriths death, the first time I stepped out of the ship in Quake (the FPS not deathmatch) and saw the stunning graphics (for its day), that first Ragnoros kill, and my first heartstopping sweaty Eve Online PvP kill. Oh and ofc the day I received my Elite Badge (avatar) in the post. Almost everything else... meh as average as it gets.

The Thargoid content could have been that for a great many players, if done right; but now, it's just something else to shoot at.

Susanna is right to say it's such a sad missed opportunity.

If they had done it like I suggest, and even put it behind a paywall of £20, it would have been better received than it has been.

Well Said Rafe / Reft ;) (you know why now),

Just wanted to say I agree with you in your above comments.

Never underestimate the propensity for self deception!

Believe me, if you knew me, you would know what that sentence means to me. It nearly cost me my life (and I remind myself of this advice every day since). So throwing it back in my face is just uninformed.

Not going to go in deep argumentation on this topic, but why do so many people think of the worst possible explanation..

Did it cross your mind that all of it was indeed intented like the devs told us? It's not like they did not tell that the thargoid would be far more dangerous than any AI we've seen so far (including the bugged ones). That's pretty self explanatory of the intented difficulty. The moment they droped solo mode they droped solo content. Blaze your own trail does not mean solo such a expansion especially in a multiplayer game primarily made for coop (if you remember the original concept). At least that's the way I percieve it and am sure Fdev wants us to approach it in the multiplayer side.

Work hard to gain a tool against our foes and see it rapidly nerfed could be part of the story. Give players that sense of "well they are not so scary after all" and then see how they were wrong seems plausible, what are you going to say if the next weaponry see its effectiveness reduced as well? Pretty sure the devs were forseeing the actions of some players, especially pvp groups.

Some of you call the devs incompetent because they increased difficulty against thargoid by altering a value on a weapon dedicated to thargoids, a pretty simple and effective adjustment. Instead of altering codes or creating new ones they just did the simpliest adjustment , you see there's other explanations.
And that's not harming any other content, not like we already have pretty effective and engineered dumbfires... AX weapons are dedicated to thargoids, who cares what they do on human ships honestly.
Would you reengineer an entire new set of weapons to go pve/pvp ? Nope and the devs even told us before that thargoids would require specific outfit very different and potentially useless against humans.

Ultimately we are just at the begining of 2.4. Hell in yesterday FX17 livestream they laughed saying the return as not yet happened and things are going to go crazy.
I can just advice to drop the pressure and see what is coming, there's no need for such animosity for something we are not sure about yet.

Edit: Forgot to add that it seems that we will have more thargoids in intances like calling reinforcements judging by the last teaser. Btw adding more thargoids to the fights over time is a smple way to increase difficulty, and I expect the devs to do it. Would explain why we fight only lone thargoids for now, they just start easy.

No. I don’t believe it was meant for one moment. If it was that would make things even worse.

The bottom line remains - you don’t fake ‘adaptation’ by nerfing a weapon rather than modifying the adaptee.

Ideally adaptations are preprogrammed and not reliant on being patched in.

Thargoids would be a whole lot more interesting if they didn’t have to have new behaviour patched in.

I feel like you don't understand on a fundamental level. Developers don't apologize for nerfs, ever. Something needs fixing, so it gets fixed. They obviously did not intend for players to kill Thargoids as fast as they were dying with just 1 AX weapon, whether 10 people killed them or 1 person killed them. There's nothing to apologize for, the weapon still exists and there is more to come, so when you have a couple or a few I imagine we will be back in the same place of easy farm. If you feel disrespected by balance changes, perhaps you shouldn't play video games, especially ones of the online multiplayer type. These things happen, it has nothing to do with how much work or time you put into getting something. The developers aren't out to personally slight you. Have your boycott because you don't agree with it being changed after the fact, not that it would have mattered if it released as .001 instead of .05 since people would have complained that they released a weak and useless weapon anyway, but this idea that there's something more going on and you were disrespected is a bit silly.

I absolutely agree 100% with this. The only argument against it I've heard that has even STARTED to resemble anything close to a good point, is Rafe Zetter's statement about the balance affecting exclusively solo non-open players. Everything else in my mind supports the missile nerf and I, like dbm47, don't feel the devs have anything to apologise for.

Guys.. if ye wanna play war in a USS go for it. If not (like me), do something else.

At this stage we're (both sides) flogging the proverbial dead thargoid.

I still wonder why you are so surprised. Frontier did it in the past and they will do it in the future: introducing new things into the game which were not thought well BEFORE.

If someone would like to build up a bridge this way it would fail for sure and collapse immediately. That's why things HAVE to be thought perfectly FIRST and to be made AFTER.

Is there any official response to this "working as intended" fiasco? Will we be treated as idiots again and again in the future? Should we make another cg to get a response maybe? How many more nerfs are left to this "story"?

Is there really any need for the amateur dramatics?..

Have any of the biggest complainers tried soloing or seen the many cmdr videos of soloing thargoids since the multicannons were released?

If you want to solo a thargoid it's still quite simple to do so. Either use multicannons only or 1 to 2 missile racks in combo with multis.

The missile nerf changes nothing.

Disclaimer: I am boycotting CGs for other reasons. Weaksauce gameplay, repetitive grind, badly balanced thargoid AI, nerfing missiles instead of buffing thargoids, lacklustre 2.4 initial release and stupid AX weapon limit plus class 2 limit.

Not any more. They patched evasive tactics in.

If you find youself wondering why a simple counter to a tactic that was cheesy back in the original alpha had to be patched in then welcome to tbe club.

I'm more than wondering actually since this was an issue with the regular AI already that flying backwards beats them and they had to change the AI code..... Now 2 years on and they learned nothing, proving how incompetent FDev really are.

How else do you explain this? They already fixed it with the regular AI and now they allowed it back in, the biggest story of the game, the biggest threat beaten by simply flying backwards? that this was a known thing by FDev which they had fixed already but somehow forgot to tell the Thargoid team about it?

SMH.

Never underestimate the propensity for self deception!

Self deception is a double edged sword my friend and cuts both ways.

As for those who said my whiteknight fanboi quote was:

Start your post with such an infantile prejudiced group labeling defamation and all further credibility is lost.. stopped reading.

There's an old phrase - "if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and looks like a duck, it's a duck."

Dbrn47 might not like the label, but if good portion of the posts in this thread in particular, keep saying the same thing and that same thing is essentially "FDev did no wrong" in varying degrees of words then I call it like I see it.

Something else Gizmo - if you look at that particular post of Dbrn47's you see something at the bottom

Thanks for playing though. Good luck with your boycott. [haha]
- most people could take that as him laughing at me (and Susanna and the others) for our boycott and my post or possibly all our posts - which is extremely disrespectful - so YOU Gizmo are attacking my fanboi label towards a guy who had been disrespectful not just to me but a slew of other posters who have said they will boycott. Where does that put YOU?

Gizmo - group labelling of whiteknight fanbois isn't prejudicial if the behaviour they display on the forums is one of unremitting narrow minded acceptance of whatever FDev does, even when it has clearly upset a good portion of the playerbase - whiteknights / drinkers if the coolade - whatever label you wish to use, all of it applies to these people; who seem to worship at the altar of FDev and whether you see it or not, blind acceptance of content and how it's implemented gives the developers a false sense of belief regarding the state of thier game so they continue down that path, until they release a game so full of crap the only people who play it are the fanbois.

Unless you intend to pay a huge sum of money for each new content to make up for the lack of other paying players be my guest, otherwise, understand that the people who complain are the ones working FOR YOUR BETTERMENT.

What happened here was more than a simple misjudgement of a decimal point - it highlighted a line of thinking in FDev that was disjointed, embryonic and to be frank more than a little naive of player behaviour.

Trust me when I tell you, if all the people who didn't like the games myriad problems just left, it would already have folded - there are far more players who "only tolerate" parts of this game than most people realise. We stick around because we care, we try to effect change because we care, so dismissing what we try to do and say entirely without even reading it is far more disrespectful than my calling a player fanboi because he's writing like one. If you had actually read my entire comment it read "because you sure are starting to dress like one" to mean his comments were becoming more fanboi side than "impartial player, who will both openly like and dislike what FDev does" as he claims.

If DBrn47 didn't like being labelled a fanboi (and I can see from his sig he's not keen) maybe he shouldn't have picked up a stick and started dancing around FDev's fire.

If you wish to continue ignoring my posts, or even put me on ignore that's fine, and I do it to you (I won't) and he does it to him, and so on, and so on, and round and round we go. The players will devolve into this toxic mess, the Devs will totally stop listening to us at all and think "what is the fff point?" and everyone loses.

I try to keep an open perspective, I've repped both sides of the argument in the past and now, IF the point is valid and well made. I'm OPEN to be proven wrong, but you'll need PROOF, not fanboiism.

There is PROOF FDev introduced half baked content, there is PROOF FDev implemented this poorly, and there is PROOF FDev's handling of the "balance pass" was sloppy because there was no proper code infrastructure behind it to do it properly. The PROOF I speak of is in many games where scalable content and damage / resistance tables have been used FOR YEARS.

Why FDev chose to ignore these proven methods is unknowable except to them, but this is the result and I defy anyone to step forward and say :

"the way FDev handled this is the way forward, they have used a new method that is more efficient for the developers to work with and provides the right balance of content and gameplay methodology for the players"

Just to highlight this I went back into Star Citizen a few nights back and noticed something I hadn't paid attention to before - the bad guys spawn in numbers corresponding to the players in the area. 1 player 1 badguy - 2 = 2 and so on...

HOWEVER - if there is ONE LARGE SHIP CARRYING THREE EXTRA PASSENGERS, GUESS WHAT HAPPENS? FOUR bad guys appear, so the passengers better man a turret or you'll be dead in minutes.

I cannot stress enough that THIS IS HOW THE THARGOID THREAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN IMPLEMENTED.
