make the SRV a size 3 module

after driving past some bashed up sidewinders in my SRV on Tod McQuinn's base it really started to bother me that the Sidewinder can carry something as large as an SRV. I think FD could solve two issues by making the SRV require a size 3 module slot:
1. the Sidewinder would no longer be a viable ship for Suicidewinder missions in Quince as you wouldn't be able to use an SRV with it
2. the Sidewinder would be a much more believable starter ship where you would only want to use it to earn enough credits to get something bigger that CAN hold a SRV. I see this as no different than the SLF Hanger where only certain ships have the capacity and hangar doors to use it. Even an Eagle could hold a SRV, but you'd need to give up your size 3 shields (not that the shields help any on that ship anyway).

I think the side winder deploying a scarab is fine since its small and foldable, what bothers me is how heavy the srv bay especially the H class ones considering that its just a hole in your ship
And if that mass is the srv itself then its just stupendously heavy if you think about what a 6 ton vehicle lools like today
A small hatchback weighs about a ton nowadays(smallest i found with a quick google was 820kilo) so i think it would be reasonable that the scarab weighs something like 500 to 800 kilo and the srv bay compontens like the arm that picks up the scarab weigh 200 to 300kilo

I would rather see more different type of srvs that are bigger and only come in 3, 5 and 7 slots

I think you have a false impression of ship sizes.

Have a look at this for example:

Which is a detail of this:

There are other examples, 3D even.

OP as an experiment

Get a Sidewinder, fit an SRV Bay, then get the SRV on top of the Sidewinder and take a screen shot

I already drove on top of several Sidewinders at Tod McQuinn's base. That is why I think the size is off. I was able to drive right up to the back of a partially buried Sidewinder and could see that the height of it would cause some major issues in the ship because even folded up the height of the SRV would consume most, if not all, of the available height of the ship.

A partially buried Sidewinder sufficient for scale?
In VR you can go from the Cabin into the SRV Hanger (sadly without the SRV) There is plenty of room, and it is certainly the same hanger the SRV folds up to fit in as you board the ship.
There is still plenty of room above the SRV for access to the rear hatch

yes. The buried portion does not impact the width and length comparison and the height can be checked against the door which isn't buried at all.

I know as well, from watching straight upwards when the SRV is being loaded into the bay, that it collides with the roof (i.e. the glass dome intersects with the roof of the bay) so the SRV is already being compressed into a space that it does not fit within properly so I think making this a size 3 would solve that as well

The Sidewinder even got an additional slot with the release of Horizons, just so carrying an SRV would be easier.

This is not an issue, it's a feature.

This is only partially folded

Here is the view looking back at the moment the SRV is in the hanger
The Cabin actually raises up to be in line with the body and there is clearance for the turret

I cannot climb higher safely

Yes the light sucks but that is where the mission was

You forget that the wheels of the SRV retract when you dock it inside your ship, so it takes a lot less space than when it is deployed.

I don't mean to be picky and not to detract from your exposition but the turret folds down from the top of the SRV to be stowed to the rear of the cabin doesn't it?

No. All ships need access to a SRV hangar and there is at least one ship with no size 3 bays.

as far as I could see on Coriolis, the Sidewinder is the only ship that only has less than a size 3 Optional Internal and as was mentioned in the beginning of the thread, it currently can equip two SRV bays which makes no sense. Why would you be required to have SRV bay access on the starter ship in the game? Why not expect that you upgrade to a better ship to get access to this functionality?

Because horizons specifically advertises that function and starts players off at a planetary base with an SRV equipped. The SRV is the Sidewinder of ground vehicles (even if we don't have alternatives yet).
